EL CAJON — A 75-year-old El Cajon homeowner fired two gunshots at a juvenile he interrupted Monday during a burglary, police said.

About 11 a.m., he called El Cajon police to report hearing noises coming from a back bedroom of his house on Terra Lane near Naranca Avenue. Fearing for his safety, he told police he had armed himself with a handgun, police Lt. Mark Coit said.

The burglar came out of the bedroom and got into a physical altercation with the homeowner, Coit said. The man fired two rounds.

"...got into a physical altercation with the homeowner..."

Now there's a PROBLEM right there.

I can't picture this.. How could there have been an "altercation" when a homeowner sees a burglar in his house and blows him away?

When you fire when holding the firearm from a low position, that is holding the firearm at waist level, what you think is a center of mass shot will normally be low. I would suspect this is the reason the bad guy was shot in the leg instead of center of mass which is a pity.

If you hold the weapon with your shooting arm straight and your other arm supporting your weapon the slug will go where you want it to go.

Regardless the citizen did good, i.e. good guy one and bad guy zero. In defense of this citizen when bad stuff is coming down and the adrenalin if pumping it is difficult to use proper technique unless you train for this situation.

The citizen did good, and the bad guy is lucky that the citizen did not blow his privates (his junk) into the next room.

No Stand Your Ground in California but we do have the Castle Doctrine. And this man was in his own home so it should apply.

Headline should have read: “El Cajon burglar shot in Cajonnes” (ie a suburb of El Cajon?)

Read the other listed articles about crime and criminals in el Cajon. Sounds like a miniature Chicago. At least the police there shoot the armed bastards.

Not sure where you're getting your information but El Cajon is nothing like Chicago.

The chance of becoming a crime victim in El Cajon is 1 in 190.

The chances of becoming a crime victim in Chicago is 1 in 9.

Rest of the story....kid shot in leg, hid in bathroom. Homeowner no doubt told him to stay there. Police arrive, kid arrested.

Homeowner treated at hospital for injuries sustained in scuffle.

They (police) rounded up 27 gang members in one combined task force raid, and shot several other men (armed or attacking), including the one armed with a knife, who died. The homeowner shot another one.

Now, was this a bad week or a typical day?

Doesn’t happen in my neighborhood. Might be that many of us are armed and the bad guys avoid us. My son’s retired K9, now sleeping on our living room floor for a few days, will back at the sound of a flea farting.

It doesn't happen in my neighborhood either. Most if not all the crime in EC occurs on the valley floor, and I live nowhere near there.

And you apparently have no clue what happens in Chicago either. That would be a slow day there.

1 in 9 compared to 1 in 190.

Think about that.
