Senate Democrats say they’ll advance a bill giving President Barack Obama the authority to raise the debt ceiling unless two-thirds of Congress disapproves, according to a Senate Democratic aide.

The issue of increasing the borrowing limit and avoiding an unprecedented default is fast becoming a central focus in Washington—and comes as ordinary Americans say they’re deeply dismayed with the week-old government shutdown, and are finding blame with both Republicans and Democrats.

“It looks like there is more than enough blame to go around and both parties are being hurt by the shutdown,” CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said. …

Public approval of Congress in general was at about 12% before any of this started. Republicans in Congress fared no better. There is nowhere “down” for them to go. Almost twice as many dentists recommend sugary gum for their patients who chew gum as approve of Republicans in Congress.

On the other hand, over 40% of the people, for reasons passing human understanding, still approve of the job President Obama is doing. He has room to fall.

So if this shutdown is hurting both sides, only one side is feeling the pain. Congress “enjoys” the immunity that comes with near-zero approval ratings.

Why would Boehner bring this for a vote when all he has to do now is wait until Oct 17 then they will have to rail in spending, cut the budget etc.

Makes no sense for him to cave now, plus wouldn’t the Senate need 66 votes to pass this?

Yet another article basing all their reporting on a biased CNN poll of ‘Adults’ instead of voters. I’m tired of it.

Where does the Senate get the right to take the powers which belong to the House according to the Constitution, and give them to the President? If they can do this, what’s the use of the House? Their power is merely window dressing if it can be stripped anytime the opposition doesn’t like what they do. The ‘rats sure are in a hurry to finish this. It seems that the more people who see the truth of CommieCare, the more they oppose it. Shame they gave that much credit to a bunch of known power-drunk liars in the first place.

If I recall correctly, this was McConnell's compromise idea before the 2012 election that pulled the rug out from under Boehner in the House during the first debt ceiling showdown.

Give Obama a power with an unattainable Congressional override.

Praying right now for those democrats and yes, liberal republicans willing to blatently disregard the rules of the constitution (all bills must begin in the House of Reps). God’s power SUPERCEDES mankind and would ask for HIS intervention beginning with Harry Reid!

These people sure are in a hurry to change our government.
They think they are close so close to pure POWER that
they might as well make a grab for it.
(actually I had typed in “make a grave” but it’s the
same thing really)

The power of the purse is vested by the Constitution in the Congress and it is so vested that a simple majority controls the will of each chamber. This proposal seeks to control subsequent congresses and limit their constitutional power of the purse to a two thirds vote. Both features are unconstitutional.

This is, however, in keeping with the regrettable tendency to abdicate Congressional responsibility as defined in the Constitution to the executive branch. Obamacare, for all intents and purposes, says to the Secretary of Health Education and Welfare, "go write a law controlling all aspects of health care in America." We abdicate the control of the currency to the Fed, CO2 emissions to the environmental agency etc. etc.

The Constitution has been abdicated away.

The people answering these poll questions are the same people who think obamacare and the affordable care act are two different bills.
The polls are bogus, they don’t deal with the specific points of the bill, congress getting breaks, corporations getting breaks, unions getting breaks, they ask about liking republicans and democrats,do you like Obama,it’s all bullshit

Just another extortion scheme by the Democrats. It has gone from Obamacare to Obamascare.
