Workers affected by shutdown ask lawmakers for help [Non-Essential Whiners Get Media Attention]

Business owners and furloughed workers suffering due to the government shutdown are asking lawmakers for help.

Federally-funded Head Start programs may have to close their doors without much-needed funds. "I feel bad because as I walked up here, I got handed an envelope with a resume of a Head Start worker who told me she's getting closed down in a week," Florida representative Lois Frankel said.

Several workers are facing similar fates if the shutdown does not come to an end. "This is the first time that I can remember where we've been mandated to come to work this time and not get paid," American Federation of Government employee Avon Sansone said. "No one's getting paid. Even though the resolution was passed that they would pay us later, what do you do with the interim? We live paycheck to paycheck."

Sansone represents more than 14,000 government employees. Only those labeled "essential" are forced to work, however, all employees, whether they attend work or not, will get back pay. "We have the public employees on paid vacation," Newton Cook of United Waterfowlers Association said.

Typical media weepiness.

Never do we see extended coverage of the wealth lost by taxpayers so that these non-essential unionized bureaucrats can keep leeching.

Why are government employees called ‘workers?’

Decades ago when I was a hippy, I volunteered at a Head Start. The toddler I remember was probably in the clothes she had worn and slept in and peed in for a couple of days. Her mother was surly and not working. Seemed weird to me that the mother wasn’t taking care of her child and keeping her clean but just dropping her off for some hippy chick to read to. I think I started my slow turn to the right that day.

Head Start is a complete failure. Every study has shown no improvement for the children who attended.

Government programs can’t replace parents and won’t make a difference with bad parenting.

That is becoming the preferred method to solving your problems in this country. Play the victim, whine loudly, and hope to generate media attention that forces somebody to do something about it.

Just wait till they’re done nationalizing health care. Desperate people with life-threatening conditions will be forced to put all the intimate personal details out there in tabloid form to try and force the hand of the bureaucrats.

It’s how it works in all other countries with Socialized Medicine.

They got their checks on the first of the month and they are starving a week later? Really? They aren't due another paycheck until the first of next month. The GOP has been willing to open agencies back up but hussein is throwing a little temper tantrum and not wanting to open talks. If these employees who are nowhere close to missing a paycheck have a problem, then take it up with the child they voted for.

Now, how about we talk about all those salaries that will be paid for sitting at home playing video games while no work is being done.

BTDT. Being a sort of new hire at school, I was assigned at the baby mama center/Head Start for a while and HATED every minute of it. It was the nursery for the high school girls’ babies. Ok, sounds fine, the girls get to continue their education so they won’t be burdens to society, whatever. The thing was, they’d get out of class at noon and not bother picking up their kids until 6 pm. None of them had jobs so it was free time. Also, once enrolled at birth, the babies could stay until they were school age even if mama had graduated. Every morning the airhead baby mamas would come in bragging about who they’d hooked up with the night before and ooooh, wouldn’t it be soooo cool to have another baby!!! Yes, we’d have to clean the kids and launder the clothes. Free breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Free babysitting. Free toys, crafts, books and playground. Free, free, free! Free for them while they partied but not for the hard working taxpayers.

It hasn't even been a week. Do these bozos expect us to believe these other bozos are being paid daily or something? I'd be willing to bet that noone has actually missed a paycheck yet. They also know that anyone not actually going into the office will get a paid vacation out of it.

How dumb do they think we are?
