Callista Gingrich: U.S. memory fades
Bayou Buzz ^ | 10/8/13

Posted on 10/08/2013 6:16:48 AM PDT by SoFloFreeper

It's vital that young Americans learn the history of our amazing nation.

Being an American requires knowing what it means to be an American. It's the fabric that binds us together and helps us understand who we are.

Today, unfortunately, many of our students are failing to learn American history, including our founding principles and values. And they're failing to learn why America remains an exceptional nation.

Callista was on CNN this morning.

I wonder when the media will report on Rush Limbaugh's best selling book "Rush Revere"....

Well, Callista. My memory certainly hasn’t faded. I vividly remember that you were screwing a married man. I remember that. It hasn’t ‘faded.’

Gaffer: “I vividly remember that you were screwing a married man.”

Are you accusing her of hypocrisy? The Bible says we’ve all sinned and fallen short, and pretty much everyone I know is guilty of being a hypocrite. I know I’m one, and that’s why I ask Christ for mercy rather than judgment.

You have no idea whether or not Callista has repented, but that’s really between her and Christ anyway. Are you implying one can never speak about morality or values if they’ve ever done something immoral in their past? That’s a ridiculously high standard that would likely disqualify the vast majority (all?) of us.

How about evaluating what she says and does now? If it’s good and true, accept it. If not, refute or ignore it.

So glad we have a homewrecker to tell us how about the importance of history. I wonder if she bothered to study the history of her husband's previous marriages and what her future is going to look like. Or maybe all that peroxide has soaked through her skull to her brain.

And why are you people still paying for cable? Is it the constant need to out money in the bank accounts of outfits like CNN who hate you?

Just because she got laid by a fat old politician, doesn’t make her a bad person. Many women fall into that trap.
They see power, and go for it.

But that isn’t what this story is about. It’s about America’s youth not learning about living in the greatest country in the world.

They aren’t learning, because teachers are not teaching.

Today teachers are teaching socialism, communism, homosexual sex, Acceptances of perverted sex acts, and joining the Borg.
They don’t have to worry about the draft or having to serve so they don’t care about those who served previously.
Everything is handed to them, most do not work or have any idea what work is. They play video games or play with themselves as their teachers tell them to do.

Whatever you think of the Gingrichs, she is correct in her assessment.

Years ago, American History and Civics were deemed, the “History of White, dead men”. From that point forward, it is not “cool” (or profitable) to study history. As time and events have been parsed into tidbits and milliseconds, history becomes your last SMS message, logged 1 minute ago. You want people to remember from rote memory (now considered a sin by educators) an event that happened more than a decade ago? Are you kidding?

America is still a young nation but she has amnesia and this amnesia leads to ignorance. That is where we are right now.

Jay Leno used to interview folks randomly on the street to ask them general knowledge questions. The only folks who can recall basic information seems to be the grandparents who are 60 on up...

Ditto! Noot and his wife live inside the Beltway. They have no idea what the rest of us hard-working Americans are dealing with under this Administration. All they know is that their lobbying fees are consistent, their property values are up, their stock portfolios are solid, and that their blue-chip health insurance policies are unaffected by ObamaCare.

Oh, and that FDR was the greatest President America ever had, and that Woodrow Wilson was good too. Did I forget anything?

If she did not study the history of her husband’s previos marriages and was entirely clueless about them...then she was in the exact same state of ignorance which you are proudly displaying on this very thread.

She’s a home wrecker and a skank who will get get kicked to the curb when her husband gets bored with her. Newt is a Keebler elf looking, philandering cheat who shouldn’t be trusted. Was there anything I missed about this charming couple and embodiment of conservative family values?

Orangedog, I might forget I’m a lady and assume you are an over-caffeinated squirrel-brained leftist idiot spoiling for a fight. Newt, wives and all, has done more for this country than you in your minimalist flyspeck attempts at thinking could imagine. Just go back to Nutville Central and let the FR voices of reason carry on.

They aren’t learning, because teachers are not teaching.

how appropriate FANFARE FOR THE COMMON MAN by copeland is playing. but i digress. not only are indoctrinators not teaching real history, they are not even creating an atmosphere where a student would want to learn on their own. i could teach history better than 75% of history teachers in government skools IF THEY LEFT ME ALONE TO TEACH. and it would be interesting. doubt i would last a year though with today's restrictions.

Ah yes...I just love how some adulterer on his third marriage and the tramp who helped him violate his marriage vows to the 2nd wife brings out all the family values hypocrrites. Hell, who needs homosexuals to dilute the sanctity of marriage when we have good conservative like newt around to violate it like a drunk prom date?

There is no doubt in my mind that I could do a better job than what is being done now.
To me History should be taught without the personal predjudices ,and opinions of the teacher.

It should be taught as facts and not speculation on those facts, and the student should extract their own opinion.

I hate to tell you this but history is mostly conjecture, speculation and guess work. Most of written history is full of personal prejudices etc. History books no matter who writes them are what the author feels is important. You cannot put in everything. There is always a filtering of what the author thinks is important.
There is an old adage that the victor writes the history. This is true in many cases. In the case of very old or ancient history we don't have the other side.
I have studied history for over 55 years. I have a degree in history and have taught in high school and lectured in college.
True history involves detailed study going through old, mostly incomplete records.
Most history is dependent on motivation of the principals involved. We have to guess many times as to motivation. There are facts but most of history, real history, history that is interesting and worth knowing involves much guesswork.
The true study of history involves “living” in college libraries for week, months, or years at a time.
Reading the original documents is best but even then you have to take what is written with a grain of salt. Much written documentation is written with an eye on history. In other words the writer is aware his work will be read at a later time and it behooves him or her to make themselves look good.
Sorry for the rant. Just wanted to give you a reality check on what history is and is not. Too many people think history is like a hard science. It is not. 2 plus 2 does not always equal 4 in history.

I agree with 98% of what you say in your rant. That is why we can never consider one source as history.

I am no historian or professor, but I have done bit of reading and study, and of course I myself tend to want to believe the parts I agree with, I suppose we all do, but as a teacher one should try to teach without bias and I do not believe that is happening in todays educational institutions.

You are correct. Most teachers today push their ideas instead of presenting what we know and what we are guessing about. Most teacher toady have little background knowledge and the schools of education in colleges are the main problem. They require very few courses in history and most teachers have a poor grounding in the subject. There is also the political PC crap that has infected teaching for years.
My main point to you was history is mostly how WE interpert an event and will never be an exact science.
