Last year, Team Obama was wallowing in praise for its election tech strategy. Its strike team of Silicon Valley pros who believed in stock options and Socialism were credited with winning the election by applying the same data tools that had made Facebook and Google so creepy.
And then when it came time to debut Obamas signature achievement (if you dont count wrecking the Middle East) the implementation was every bit as disastrous as if the project had been outsourced to someones cousin who had once taken a web design course in 1996.
The ObamaCare websites didnt go down because of high demand. They went down because of bad design. The design on Healthcare.gov was so bad that it was almost as if the website had been designed to fail. Or as one tech expert put it, the website was so cluttered with junk that it was running a denial of service attack against itself.
Its not too surprising that a government website would be badly designed, but Team Obamas digital strategy had been built around using them for messaging to bypass even friendly media outlets. The content on government websites blended with the Obama campaign so closely that it was sometimes hard to tell the difference.
But that is where the border between competency and incompetence for Team Obama begins. Team Obama excels at promoting Obama and attacking Republicans. It isnt actually good at anything else.
The left excels at one thing and only one thing; propaganda. Great products and bad marketing are a familiar business story. But what the left has is a terrible product with great marketing.
The Soviet Union could not make its agricultural policies work, but it spent enormous efforts convincing its own people and the West that those policies were working even when bread was being filled with straw and the USSR was going deep into debt buying American wheat.
Confronted with a website that didnt work, Team Obama immediately spun straw into bread declaring that it had gone down because ObamaCare was so popular. It was a familiar narrative shift that once again put the best possible face on a disaster. The website wasnt bad. The product was that good.
That ObamaCare disaster however was being eclipsed by an even bigger ObamaCare disaster.
Obama, who had bent over backward to negotiate with Russia and Iran, refused to negotiate with the Republicans, and began a policy of punitively closing open air memorials to veterans, evicting people from private cottages on federal lands and even attempting to barricade the ocean.
It was the same game of chicken that Obama had been playing since he took office. He would never compromise or back down on anything he wanted done. He just did it.
The Obama myth is that he is a reasonable man being blocked by unreasonable Republicans at every turn. There are plenty of things wrong with that myth, but the biggest one is that Obama isnt being handicapped by Republican obstructionism. He seeks out and cultivates Republican opposition.
Radicals need enemies to give them meaning and to keep the troops rallied behind their latest disaster. No matter how many Cukes, Not Nukes bumper stickers they may paste on their Subaru bumpers; they are Guns not Butter types who invest all their energies into war.
The ideas of the left dont just fail because theyre bad. They also fail because the left is more energized by hostilities than by any of the progressive programs that its leaders claim to be passionate about.
Obama isnt a reluctant warrior. Hes a happy warrior. He cares far more about fighting Republicans than about winning amnesty for illegal aliens, gay marriage or ObamaCareall things that he introduced haphazardly to win elections.
Obama came up with ObamaCare because he needed something to offer at a political appearance. And then it grew into the usual government monstrosity that no one can fully take in. And what goes for ObamaCare, also goes for the ObamaCare website which loads 92 files every time it loads a page.
Both ObamaCare and the ObamaCare website are bloated monstrosities that no one took the time to reduce to a manageable scale.
ObamaCare is both a planned and unplanned disaster. Its planned provisions will seriously damage health care in America, but its unplanned measures, the collision between the incompetence of its planners and legislators and the real world, may prove to be even more disastrous in the end.
The ObamaCare website took itself down. ObamaCare may do the same thing.
The Soviet Union did not really care about building Communism, a 93% successful harvest or universal literacy. Its bosses put it on a wartime footing as soon as they could and kept it that way until it bankrupted them. The one thing they really cared about was power. And once they had power over their own people, they quickly grew bored and began plotting to conquer and subdue other countries.
The left runs on conflict. It excels at propaganda because that is a vehicle for conflict. You can ask it to organize a committee to denounce American foreign policy, but dont ask it to change a tire or bring in the crops or run a health care system. It may talk about how important it is to drive out the capitalist pigs so it can do those things, but it doesnt actually care about doing them.
In Venezuela, Chavezs successor, Nicolás Maduro, is obsessively picking fights with the United States even as his country teeters on the edge of economic disaster. For the Cuban trained Maduro, screaming about the Yankees is all that he knows how to do. Like Obama, he isnt good for anything else.
The most important thing about Obama is that he is a community organizer. He has never been anything else. He is not capable of being anything else.
ObamaCare isnt his policy achievement. Its a pack of lies that his people came up with in time to sell him to a progressive group. The pack of lies has grown into a mountain. And now the avalanche begins.
Obama doesnt care about the collapse of his signature policy achievement. To him ObamaCare is just another way of picking a fight with the reactionary forces. Hes not fundamentally any different than Nicolás Maduro or Kim Jong Il or any other backward Socialist boss who doesnt know anything except how to pick fights.
Like them, he isnt interested in helping people, not even in the misguided way that some liberals are. His politics and his passion are those of conflict. He doesnt care if ObamaCare succeeds or fails. All that he cares about is using it as a weapon against the Republican Party.
Thats what hes doing now.
He won because Romney was a horrible candidate.
That, and because America has a shrinking base of taxpayers and an increasing base of dependents.
the money for the web sites was siphoned off by criminal cronies and yes, their red headed step children who once took an online course on coding were supposed to set up the web sites, big shock, the web sites are juvenile unprofessional crap that doesn’t work.
Ah, no. He won because the majority now wants more government to take care of them. Hillary! will be elected for the same reason. Etc etc etc.
Excellent article. Let us hope the chickens soon come home to roost.
bump for an outstanding article.
Wasn’t the title of Hillary’s thesis “It’s the Fight” or something close to it? If everything really was all uniorns and rainbow Skittles, they would still find something to fight like hell about, because fighting like hell is their reason for being.
I can say with near certainty that the Obamacare web work ws done by contractors with DNC credentials that subbed the work to other DNC credentialed people with the website workshop “96 credential.
The basis for getting the work done was political loyalty and not web design and construction ability
REFEERENCE--EXCERPTS A November 30, 2012 Cato.com report indicated the Insurance Exchanges will cost Twice What it Costs to Administer Medicare (NOT what he's told Americans).
ONE STATE'S LAUNCH COSTS Then in March 2013 CATO.COM reported "The Cost to Launch the California Health Insurance Exchange is $910 million".
So far (2012) California has received $910 million in federal grants to launch its new health insurance exchange under the Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare"). The California exchange, "Covered California," has so far awarded a $183 million contract to Accenture to build the website, enrollment, and eligibility system and another $174 million to operate the exchange for four years.
The state will also spend $250 million on a two-year marketing campaign. By comparison California Senator Barbara Boxer spent $28 million on her 2010 statewide reelection campaign while her challenger spent another $22 million.
The most recent installment of the $910 million in federal money was a $674 million grant. The exchange's executive director noted that was less than the $706 million he had asked for. "The feds reduced the 2014 potential payment for outreach and enrollment by about $30 million," he said. "But we think we have enough resources on hand to do the biggest outreach that I have ever seen."
For additional perspective....private insurance marketing site, Esurance sells not only health insurance but also things like homeowners and auto insurance across the country......putting my zip code into their system along with my age, they offered me 87 different health plans from all the big players in my area.
Now granted, the new health insurance exchanges are more complex because they have to interface with Medicaid and the IRS as well as calculate subsidies. But the order of magnitude difference in what it cost to launch esurance compared to the California exchange is pretty big.
Privately funded Esurance began its multi-product national web business in 1998 with an initial $5.5 million round of venture fund investment in 1999 and a second round of $34 million a few months later.
The start-up experience of other major web companies is also instructive. Facebook received $13.7 million to launch in 2005. eBay was founded in 1995 and received its first venture money in 1997$6.7 million.
Even doubling these private investments for inflation still leaves quite a gap.
He won because of our dumbed down voters. When we have families that have been supported by the government for 4, 5, 6 generations or so, and when our kids have been brought up in schools steeped in propaganda, what else can be expected?
Of course Romney was not a good candidate—that was part of the plan, too. But more than that, when the welfare state broke up the family, when you can make more in government handouts that you can in a minimum wage job—well here we are.
The Republican party, by and large, is full of liberals. We no longer have a real choice between the parties. One’s as good/bad as the other.........
I think our only hope for this country is the TEA Partiers, and other like-minded individuals to band together—but I don’t think that is going to happen.
When our entire media—radio, television, internet, everything, our public schools—kindergarten through advanced college degrees—are taught by leftist, all text books are slanted left—we are finally reaping our “reward’
It took at least a full generation, maybe closer to 2 generations, for this to be accomplished, but I think we have arrived.
Obama no longer even has to pretend to be competent. He doesn’t have to worry about making friends across the aisle. The whole world could be falling apart and as long as the government can print money he’ll be set for life. He’ll have a generous pension, a staff, bodyguards and the potential for millions more by giving a teleprompted speech blaming all of his problems on the premise that America wasn’t ready for a black President.
There's an old political joke told around Boston but it's probably universal.
It seems the town had decided to erect a statue to some bigwig and the job had been sent out for bids. Three bids had been submitted. Charlie Flaherty submitted one for $1000. Tom Finnerty had submitted one for $2000. And Billy Bulger submitted one for $3000.
The Town Council calls in the bidders to interview them. "Charlie, how did you arrive at your bid?" Charlie says "I've done such jobs before and I know the costs."
"Tom. And you?" Tom says "It's a complicated job and I wanted to leave room for allowances."
"And you, Billy? How did you get such a high figure?"
"Well, I figured $1000 for you, $1000 for me, and I'd have Charlie here build the statue."
Billy got the job.
“He won because Romney was a horrible candidate.”
Yes, I had to hold my nose to vote for Romney. However, I keep hearing that Obama “won” and all the likely reasons for it, but I poured over those election returns and it was like reading fiction - some really inventive stuff, in fact. Because the obvious fraud wasn’t even weakly challenged, we’ll never know who won.
We are headed for a future of such pretend elections, too, if we don’t deal with that little problem.
Generally, dereliction of duty refers to failure through negligence or obstinacy to perform ones legal or moral duty to a reasonable expectation. In other words, it means willful or negligent failure to perform assigned duties or performing them in a culpably inefficient manner. Dereliction of duty is a specific offense in military law. (Quote from USLegal.com).
Dereliction of duty is an Impeachable Offense, as stipulated in the US Constitution. Dereliction of duty is also a US Military offense subject to a Courts Martial.
Will our sorry Congressional RINOs do their usual kid gloves, boys will be boys approach to Obamas numerous violations of the US Constitution, or will they FINALLY draw up The Articles of Impeachment for B. Hussein Obama?
No he won because McCain was a horrible candidate. He got “reelected” by fraud and corruption.
“There Is Only the Fight: An Analysis of the Alinsky Model, made public in 2001. Maybe we’ll see Barry’s college records and the LA Times tape in 2017.
Yep, that’s the one. Thanks.
