A few weeks ago, I arrived from Europe at one of the Washington areas international airports. The wait in the customs line approached an hour, because there was only one customs agent working as more than 20 of the booths stood empty.
I was told by a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent that this was a result of sequestration and it was designed to inflict maximum inconvenience on travelers so they would realize no part of the federal budget can be cut without horrible consequences. In similar fashion, the current government shutdown over disagreements about Obamacare has caused many nonessential governmental workers to be furloughed.
It would not be unreasonable to ask this question: In order to cope with a federal debt close to $17 trillion, why is the government furloughing TSA and customs agents, preventing children from taking White House tours and generally doing everything it can to inflict pain and discomfort on the American people when it could have simply trimmed nonessential personnel and services from the budget with little or no inconvenience? The latter solution would make much more sense, even if we trimmed personnel by attrition, which would certainly be my preference. Over the course of time, it would make a tremendous difference not only for today, but for our progeny as well.
Those who feel that the opposition to Obamacare is similar to the kind of disagreements that have resulted in threats of government shutdown in the past need to realize that this new governmental initiative affects one-sixth of our entire economy. It also represents one of the most dramatic alterations of federal policy impacting all of our lives in history. Those attempting the well-rehearsed radical tactic of demonizing anyone who opposes them should instead consider the tried-and-true practice of civil discussion and compromise;...

His writing reminds me of a younger version of Dr. Thomas Sowell.
In ways big and small, Obama is strangling this nation. The yoke of the oppressor must be thrown off and even if Boehner stands strong, Obama will make us all pay a price for our opposition. We simply must stop the march of tyrannical Marxism in the US or we will become a soft focus East Germany.
Yes, I believe his common sense reflects the quality surgeon he is. I don’t know anything about his political intentions but he’d surely be a plus as a governor or senator to start.
That happened for Justice Thomas.
I really want Dr. Carson to run for office. Well, for President, actually.
He’s exactly what we need: hyper-intelligent but aware of the common realities, and with a real devotion to the ideals of the Founders but not stuck in an outmoded, defensive way of expressing them.
Obama is a wanker and the TSa are a bunch of wankers even before gov’t shutdown.
They probably already have.
Great man! He would get my vote in a heartbeat.
Indeed. As I was reading it I sort of forgot and thought it was Sowell for a minute.
Unfortunately, Dr. Carson lives in Maryland.
Imagine two lines, one government run, the other privately run.
The government line is long and slow. It is susceptible to political games and the whim of bureaucrats.
The privately run line charges a dollar or maybe up to five dollars to pass through. When demand is high they increase the number of lines, keeping the pace moving.
Can you imagine a McDonald’s punishing its customers with long lines? The market reacts, high prices cure themselves, opportunities are created for disruptive innovation. Government destroys all that.
A brilliantly sensible man. A threat to liberals.
I wish he’d run for something — Senator, maybe? But he’s doing a great job for America right where he is.
He might be the one person who could break the blue wall in the Formerly Free State.
Well said...That destruction by government has increased dramatically since the juvenile has taken residence in the Spite House.
I was thinking that also, I believe he's pretty well liked in Maryland but the Rats would probably put a full court press on against him.
I’m just ga-ga about people who make sense when they talk!
I’m funny like that.
Cruz/Carson 2016!
How long will it be before the Dems attack him personally? I know Dr, Carson is careful in the words he chooses as not to appear committed to any political ideology but it’s clear he’s no rabid lefty. I know Dems are hot at this guy but it makes me wonder how long they stay silent about him because we know what happens to prominent Americans of color when they publicly stray off the liberal plantation.
It’s galling the number of positively world class and stunningly qualified minority Americans AND African Americans there are in this country ... yet the ONLY minority candidate the DNC could come up with was this venal, brainless and criminally incompetent piece of crud we have in the WH now!
This article is not only critical of Obamacare but of the ridiculous tactics of 0bama and his cronies, I imagine there are already Rats sharpening their knives for the attack.
I hear you...My guess is 0bama fits perfectly with the Marxist, Communist ideals of the Rat party.
Pain? There is no pain.
Only deep red hot anger, maybe...but not hurtin’.
That IRS audit would certainly qualify as a personal attack, and it was ordered from the top.
Or maybe a great new senator from Michigan to replace that @ss Levin.
Once the cracks in the “O’s” facade became apparent, the DNC got much nastier and belligerent and its a pattern that has magnified since then!
The stupid part of this is that the duties collected by U.S. Customs more than pay for the operations of that agency.
I’d take them in any order.
Thank you for the ping. The trouble with Dr. Carson is that he is way too sensible for Washington.

Yes, that would be the reasonable and patriotic approach, Doctor Carson, but the Alinskyites that we are dealing with have their own devious goals.
No, he’s not qualified for office. He’s too logical for government. Common sense in government? HA HA HA HA HA
We need a few hundred more Ben Carson’s.
