A reasonable approach might be to have SS tax be paid on all income, instead of being cut off at a certain point.

This is beyond bizarre. Retirees and near-retirees have already been hammered by low interest rates on savings.

I know an elderly woman who was a stay at home mom and never worked a day in her life. She collects SS benefits in the neighborhood of $1400-$1700/mo. WTF is up with that? Does she collect because her deceased spouse worked his entire life? How does the Social Security system ever get ahead if people who never paid into it are collecting lifetime checks, or piggybacking on their dead spouses benefits?

These types of payouts need to stop. And our government needs to STOP PROMOTING FOOD STAMPS TO ILLEGAL ALIENS.

“it will result in the Demcorats taking away from people who paid into SS and then turning that money over to people who didn’t.”
That’s the plan!

Means testing is very bad. It’s just another income/wealth redistribution scheme. You are required to contribute, but if you earn “too much” you get nothing out.

“are they going to penalize people who have actually saved for their retirements and reward people who haven’t?”

Yup.

Since there are too few producers, and too many takers, Fedzilla (Ryan et al.) want to punish the producers in order to reward the takers.

That’s going to be a real incentive to work, huh?

Ryan has been pushing for confiscation of all private retirement and pension plans since he was elected. I was made aware of this when he made a play to confiscate the railroad retirement fund (fully funded by employees with NO government contributions). As a railroader, I pay 12percent of every paycheck into railroad retirement. I don’t want or need anything from the feds, yet they want to to take all of my retirement money that I payed away from me. If you think your 401k, IRA, or retirement plan is safe, think again. The fedgovbank monster is hungry, and it will kill to feed.

The Ponzi Scheme has to blow up sometime.

What’s your solution?

It's all coming together.
The "leaders" favor making illegals into citizens because their labors will become taxable and they will be paying into Social Security. We have aborted away 40 million American citizens who would otherwise be employed taxpayers - we have to get revenue from somewhere.

They will be coming for your private retirement money. It will start by mandating a small percentage be placed into "safe" (but low interest bearing) government bonds. That will be the camel's nose under the tent. The percentage will increase to a larger percentage until it is mandated that they need to be converted to 100% government backed.

There is no getting this ship righted. Our side has its own defectives who are bent on government's survival at any cost.

Projected federal outlays for disabilities far exceeds SS payments. FIX THAT FIRST!

It should be eliminated. It is generational theft

Yup. It has been stolen from my pay check for generations. The last time I received an accounting for the theft, it approached $300,000. Return it to me with adjustment for inflation and stop collecting it. The arrival of Obama on the scene in 2008 caused my retirement investments to drop in value by $500k. I don't have enough years of productive work to recover that damage.

I’ve fought for conservatism before, now, and will in the future.

But I have a good life while the country is heading directly into chaos.

Good for you - we have to get the most from life while we can.

By the way - Is Texaco still your sponsor?

I’m with you. I’m actually picking up a used bush hog for my tractor this week. And the acreage we bought will be a great bug-out site for all the kids and grandkids if it comes to that. We could put several “compounds” on it if necessary.

Working on some DIY verticle windmills and solar power now.

This would work an outright theft or confiscation worthy of the worst communist dictatorship. Impossible to imagine Ryan could have anything to do with it.

That is the Feds problem. They mismanaged the retirement fund.

There are other solutions and idiot Ryan’s are not one of them. Going forward, they can raise the retirement age, they can increase deductions for those still in it and they can get their damn fingers out of other people’s money.

raise the retirement age to 68 then 70, raise the income level subject to SS tax, decouple MEDICARE from SS (right now if you take one you must take them both), discontinue the penalty on elderly people working who lose SS for every dollar earned (let em keep working and paying into the fund even as they take out of it) and seriously root out prosecute and eliminate fraud waste and abuse and rebuild a true SS trust fund

and no SS payments except to US citizens who paid into the fund.... no checks to auntie living sweet back in the motherland
