An unusual confrontation took place on the U.S. Capitol steps Wednesday when District Mayor Vincent C. Gray crashed a news conference held by Senate Democrats and asked Majority Leader Harry Reid to exempt the city from the ongoing shutdown.
Sir, we are not a department of the government, Gray told Reid moments after the mayor concluded his own press event about 50 yards from where Reid held one. Were simply trying to be able to spend our own money.
Im on your side, dont screw it up, okay? Dont screw it up, Reid (Nev.) told his fellow Democrat.
The intraparty tension comes after the Republican-controlled House voted last week to pass a bill allowing the District to use its locally raised tax funds to maintain operations until Dec. 15. But Democrats, including Reid and President Obama, have held fast in opposition to piecemeal funding bills, saying Republicans must come to a deal to fund the entire government, not just favored segments.
After Reid left the steps, Gray got into a heated exchange with Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), who attempted to explain the Hill Democrats position to the mayor. Weve got to open up this government for all the good people, in D.C., Maryland, Virginia, she said.
Gray replied to Boxer: Were just asking to spend our own money our own money, not the federal money.

When one confronts a t*rd, from which direction does one approach?
Don’t screw it up? WTH is that supposed to mean? LOL!
“Things you won’t be seeing on ABC/CBS/NBC Evening News”
Welcome to the Party Pal!
If the senate passes it, the crisis is over and the only one who looks bad is ObaMao. If the senate votes it down, then Old Harry at least has the moral standing to challenge Boehner to hold a vote on the so-called clean CR.
By failing to do even this much, he shows the world that he's nothing more than just another ObaMao boot licker. Funny thing I've noticed about Liberals: they not only bite the hand which feeds them, they lick the boots which kick them.
It means "Get back on the Plantation and make me a sammich!"
It means, ‘Shut up, boy.’
Boehner should call on Gray and express his support.
I guess they have not been listening to the subtexts for the past five years. NONE OF IT IS YOUR OWN MONEY. Get a clue, DC.
And some cowards in the GOP think we are losing?
Hey boys, it’s already screwed up. Your house of cards, race cards, is falling down. LOL @ you fools.
Reid knows he can’t pass even one more piecemeal bill or the public will all be demanding their special interests be funded. LMAO.
Dems feeling the heat.
DONT CAVE BONER !
Reid's phone and computer must have melted down by now.
Mayor Gray is barking up the wrong tree.
He should be holding a press conference with Speaker Boehner.
My take on this is 0 had a fit and said something like “Shut it down! Show them shut all of it down!l
Those hearing his demand either were afraid not to carry his order out for fear of being targeted or knew their would be repercussions and he’d be stuck with his own unreasonable demand and would look bad ....So they set him up to “fail”.
I’m betting on the second. With friends like that he doesn’t need enemies. Paranoia X 10
No their : there
Dingy’s plantation is a sweat shop.
The biggest ‘shutdown’ story of the day- bar none. Yet very little known.
I liked the Rollcall story http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3076796/posts better, POLITICO cleaned the events up a little.
Corrupt mobbed up SOB.
Thank you for the link! I searched the title but.....
Actually, they should be funding the government in a piece meal fashion-looking at each program/department by itself and funding the essential items first.
After spending the avaialable funds, then they should not borrow any more. What’s left is unessential stuff. No grand bargain needed.
Saw on a tweet that money to collect D.C.’s garbage will run out the 13th.
We haven’t heard the last of this LOL! Unless the Senate Rs fold before then.
