Study: Temperatures go off the charts around 2047

WASHINGTON (AP) — Starting in about a decade, Kingston, Jamaica, will probably be off-the-charts hot — permanently. Other places will soon follow. Singapore in 2028. Mexico City in 2031. Cairo in 2036. Phoenix and Honolulu in 2043.

And eventually the whole world in 2047.

A new study on global warming pinpoints the probable dates for when cities and ecosystems around the world will regularly experience hotter environments the likes of which they have never seen before.

And for dozens of cities, mostly in the tropics, those dates are a generation or less away.

"This paper is both innovative and sobering," said Oregon State University professor Jane Lubchenco, former head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, who was not involved in the study.

To arrive at their projections, the researchers used weather observations, computer models and other data to calculate the point at which every year from then on will be warmer than the hottest year ever recorded over the last 150 years.

So, is it going to rain next week?

Thanks. I have till 2045 or so to worry about it then.

I'll likely be at room temperature by then, but I'll alert my kids to be ready.

Not long ago a local Seattle TV news babe reported on a March storm in the Cascade Mountains which caused snow, flooding, mudslides, etc.
At the end of her report, she whined "When will this wicked winter weather end?"
I thought to myself, "Springtime?"

How can that be? I thought they'd be under water by then?

I don't know which model to believe anymore!!!

What were their projections in 1995?

I don't remember, but I do remember that in 1980 they predicted that in 5 years every family in the country would have at least one family member who had died of AIDs...

Now I just pay no attention to "them" or their rantings, regardless of the subject.

One of the first thing you learn in statistics is that extrapolation between two points does not extend to infinity, yet here they go again, extrapolating to infinity.

They sure do. We were supposed to be overpopulated, assholes and elbows 30 years ago. The ice caps were supposed to have been melted several years back.

They keep shoveling the BS and the brainless general public keeps lapping it up (plenty of roughage in their diet I guess).

I'll be old to care in 2047.

Besides it can't happen. In 2047 obama will still be living in the whitehut, and everything that causes glo"bull" warming, will have been outlawed.
There is no way the people in the US could have caused this global crises. I am sure obama will still blame it on Bush, and the evil GOP.

The more salient point:

The 2047 date for the whole world is based on continually increasing emissions of greenhouse gases from the burning of coal, oil and natural gases. If the world manages to reduce its emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases, that would be pushed to as late as 2069, according to Mora.

What ever happened to the coming ice age they talked about in the 70's?

Bunch of overpaid idiots. Do they work for the government?

Wait, one particular city will be the first place to get hot? Then other cities start to get hot??

But not the whole world.

Hmm don’t places set “record” temperatures all the time? Won’t most places in the next 40 years?

This is based on beating 150 years of recorded temperatures. Not the hottest “ever”. We all hear our towns or states setting new “records” all the time.

Will there be any record cold temperatures during this same time? Of course.
