Canadian officials fired IT firm behind troubled Obamacare website

Canadian provincial health officials last year fired the parent company of CGI Federal, the prime contractor for the problem-plagued Obamacare health exchange websites, the Washington Examiner has learned.

CGI Federal’s parent company, Montreal-based CGI Group, was officially terminated in September 2012 by an Ontario government health agency after the firm missed three years of deadlines and failed to deliver the province’s flagship online medical registry.

The online registry was supposed to be up and running by June 2011.

Officials at the U.S. government's Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services awarded six technology contracts worth $87 million to CGI Federal for Obamacare website work, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

The CMS officials refused to say if federal officials knew of its parent company’s IT failure in Canada when awarding the six contracts.

CGI Federal built Obamacare’s Healthcare.gov, which went live Oct. 1 but has since experienced multiple technical problems, including crashes, refusal to load and sign-on, or to provide accurate information.

It would be interesting to see if this group is crony-connected or protected-group-owned.

Competence matters.

The Ontario job, eHealth, cost Ontario taxpayers $1 billion and delivered nothing.

I would like to see some investigators from our side dig out the crony capitalist connection between this outfit and the Baraqqi regime.

They were hired on the Soviet plan-as long as their political beliefs were correct, they qualified for the job.

Anyhow, To Hussein and his puppetmasters, it never mattered if CommieCare actually worked. Every third American can drop dead as far as they care. This is a mere stepping-stone to consolidating government (leftist government) control of every American's life, and leftist monopoly power.

Consistency is very important in running an applications software company. These folks are consistent.

So Obama hired a company OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES (Ontario, no less) to handle very confidential data on US citizens....This company was a failure in Canada, sooooo WHY NOT task them with the all-important duty of handling the US GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTH INSURANCE program.

And LIVs wonder why we are still screaming for this bill FULL repeal.

http://frontpagemag.com/2013/dgreenfield/obama-spent-634-million-to-build-broken-healthcare-gov-website/

(excerpt)

CGI Federal is a subsidiary of Montreal-based CGI Group. With offices in Fairfax, Va., the subsidiary has been a darling of the Obama administration, which since 2009 has bestowed it with $1.4 billion in federal contracts, according to USAspending.gov.

Earlier this year the U.S. Government Accountability Office criticized the pace of development and testing for Healthcare.gov.’s IT system and noted that it was missing important milestone deadlines.

HHS is by far the single largest federal contractor of CGI, showering it with $645 million in contracts. The Defense Department pays the Canadian company $254 million, the EPA $58 million and the Justice Department $36 million.

In comparison, in 2008, under President George W. Bush, CGI contracts totaled only $16.5 million for all federal departments and agencies.

That’s certainly a major shift. Why are we suddenly spending 1.4 billion on contracts to a Canadian IT company? It gets complicated.

CGI Federal was built on top of the ruins of a traditional government contractor, American Management Systems, a company co-founded by Bill Clinton’s former IRS commish, with a disastrous track record that eventually put it out of business.

How does all of this translate into a whole load of government money since 2009? I don’t know. Untangling the convoluted webs would take some time. But it is a rather interesting question.

Very interesting—Bill Clinton Democratic pal links for a company that didn’t attract much interest under Bush. Unless they had huge amounts of other business, they were small and struggling, waiting for a Democratic administration. If that is true, they got a huge project that they had no experience with or any chance of handling properly. It’s “Solyndra 2: Cronies Wreck the Health System.”
