RUSH: Donna somewhere in Texas. You're first today. Great to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.
CALLER: Hello, Rush. First, let me just say you are the champion of conservatives.
RUSH: Well, no, no. There's a lot of great people out there. I appreciate that. I really do.
CALLER: They don't have millions and millions of listeners like you do. So let me just say very quickly: I am what's called a major donor in the Republican Party. And, you know, we gave a lot of money. Mostly we're small business, which small business makes up 70% of all the jobs across the USA. After 2012 disaster, we cut the GOP off. Many of us cut the GOP off, cut off RNC, cut off Karl Rove. No more super PACs. We have been saving our money. I had a congressman call me a couple of weeks ago asking me for money. I said, "Have I ever told you 'no'?" He said, "No, you haven't." I said, "Well, today it's not 'no,' it's 'hell, no.'"
RUSH: You know, Donna, I don't doubt that is this happening, but I want to tell you what the news is on this. I have no doubt that what you describe is happening a lot, but the news is that the Republican donor class... You just said you're a donor, a major donor. The Republican donor class is said to also hate the Tea Party and is demanding that the Republican leadership do something about it or they're gonna withhold their money. That's the news that's being reported, not your version of what's happening, by the way.
RUSH: There was a story in last Friday's Washington Post. "Some Longtime Republican Donors Unnerved by the Party Shutdown Strategy -- Veteran Republican fundraisers are increasingly alarmed by the defiant stance of hard-line conservatives..." Yes, and yet we just heard from a major donor who's not giving anymore.
There was a story in last Friday’s Washington Post
That’s the problem. WP has lots of “stories” sourced by mysterious persons with lots of opinions. Interesting how all those stories seem to push the Democrat agenda. Who really believes that garbage?
Rush cut her off—Annoying.
They're both happening Rush. It's because Republicans and their big money patrons are a different breed from the grassoots rank and file conservatives like me and like your caller. We belong in different parties. We're no longer Republicans and every day I'm more disgusted and feel more seperated from the GOP. They need to go the way of the Whigs...they're already about as relevant as the Whigs.
IIRC, there was a time issue.
He's taken to doing a lot of "in-show" ads in the last year or so, at least toward the end of the program. I think this call came up against one of those.
Also, the caller mentioned the name of his company without being invited to do so by Rush. That may be a no-no.
The caller got his message out, believe me.
The only thing the GOP elites will understand is “funding withering”.
But enough businesses will fund them that it might take awhile for them to notice.
Yup. Nothing else matters.
The caller was introduced as "Donna."
I don't know. I didn't hear the show today, but are you talking about the same caller?
“Rush cut her offAnnoying”
I agree. If there was a time problem he should have held her over. I wanted to hear more about what she had to say.
No, my fault. Sorry.
I'm talking about the guy - toward the end of the program - who called from Kansas to convey basically the same message as Donna. Unfortunately I missed her call, so I also missed the circumstances of her cut-off.
Again, apologies. My bad.
From what I understand, it's been taken a step further than that inside the show content (by many hosts, not just Rush). Apparently, some "commentaries" are now paid.....and you'll never know it.
I’m not a Major Donor. In fact I am no longer any kind of donor. At least not until they get their act together and return to the founding principles, and I have told them so several times. They keep sending me donation requests which goes to show that they really don’t know how to listen to their “base”. No their envelopes go back filled with some of my unwanted junk mail. Now they are out not only what it cost them for the mailing to me but for the return of the junk to them. As they say at the “Bunny Ranch” ,”Screw ‘em”
I noticed that too. He could have asked her to hang on until after the break. He barely allowed her to make her point before he went off on his own soliloquy.
I still listen to him, but I shut him off around 2:15 East coast, if I'm lucky enough to catch him. He's usually not in at all.
You know, I've wondered about that. There was something I happened to hear him talking about a few weeks ago that seemed just a little bit contrived, and I thought "hmm, I wonder if he's being paid for that."
At one point, 2008-2011, I was in position to know for sure. I am not at this time...but I think it’s going on. Lot of changes in the talk radio industry at every level.....going on now and evolving daily.
Business men are withholding money from the GOP because there too right wing and tea party folks are withholding money because their not right wing enough. I bet if any Dem read this they’d laugh out loud.
Do you happen to know why? Is it simply a revenue thing? Does the Cumulus matter have any connection to it?
And looking at the Rinos, as they try to out democrat the dems, it takes on the feel of a bad TV how.
Wonder what left leaning candidate the GOP will run next?
They will, as they haven’t learned the lesson yet.
This week I went one step further. I went to the NY GOP website and found no reference to a candidate against Cuomo, nothing about repealing the SAFE Act or any other thing that would make me want to vote GOP. I sent an email to the NY GOP and asked them if they are intentionally trying to lose elections. It’s been several days now and no response.
Revenue, yes - but related to a number of factors: like saturation, satellite radio, and some really evil accounting called allocation /bundling - where liberal ad agencies will bundle ad buys, and then allocate say 90% to the sports show and 10% to the talk show for a certain station...even when the audience for the talk show might have been 75% of the reach. Lotta crap going on, and the Cumulus thing is on both sides of the causal relationship there.
From folks I know who are highly placed: they say there are also blatantly political calculations by Cumulus. Their strategy is to kill Hannity be separating him from Rush and Levin. They knew they could never even hurt Rush, like this - but wanted to divert attention away from their real strategy of killing Hannity.
Not sure I believe that, but people I know do absolutely believe it - and they know more than I by far about the inside workings.
If Rush went to satellite and kept his web-broadcast model, it wouldn't bother me. I wouldn't get satellite just to listen to him though if he dropped the podcasts.
Anyway, I wonder if he was sending some kind of signal with that.
This congress is way more right wing then W and Denny Hastert. Where was all this talk of breaking up the GOP then? And why now with Obama such a threat now?
The only reason I don’t register as an independent is because Pa. doesn’t have open primaries. But I don’t give to Republican organizations...only individual candidates.
Story out a few weeks ago, RNC is flush with cash, DNC is broke. Hmmmmm ......
Lindsey graham, McCain, and that other fruit are the reason.
It is because of the high visibility rinos.
I just heard bits and pieces of that part of the show, and I didn’t think much of it, but come to think of it - it was a little odd. Something to keep an eye on......
