“Frangible,” “Reduced recoil”... seems like a lot of ammo to be used against people, instead of bears.

Time to sell the parks to private companies - companies that aren't power hungry and insane... We don't need creepy little army wannabees who see American citizens as the 'enemy'...

Sell the parks - fire the rangers.

12 gauge buckshot, .45ACP and .308. Gotta make a note of this; it might be worth looking up their facility locations.

A number of federal agencies also now have their own SWAT teams, including the Fish & Wildlife Service, NASA, the Consumer Products Safety Commission and the Department of the Interior.

"Lead-free projectiles!"

But of course. Lead-free frangible bullets. Intended for indoors, close quarters training against steel targets wherein the danger of ricochets and bounce back pose a serious threat to the shooter and bystanders.

d Do yourself a favor and Google "Frangible Ammunition".

"And reduced recoil rounds ;-) We wouldn’t want the ladies to break a nail." Written by someone who obviously has never fired 100 rounds of full recoil 12 ga shot shell loads in training.

It is a very safe bet that any of the ladies completing their training course can outshoot all you keyboard warriors.

So does the US Department of Education.

And it has Swat Teams (plural), not a Swat Team (singular).

What??? I am 60 years of age and shoot on two trap teams back to back every Tuesday night. That's 100 rounds of heavy loads in 1 hour through a Browning BT99 with the standard recoil pad and without a vest or shoulder pad; forty times a year.

I could see how a newbie might be a little recoil shy first time out, but its really not a big deal!

When it comes to defensive rounds, light loads are for women and metrosexuals.

It is not designed or intended for use against people or animal life.

Reduced-recoil shotshells may have a specific training function, but they are not non-lethal. Frangible ammo is also marketed as ideal for home defense, indoors, close-quarters scenarios. Rifle and pistol ammo of that sort is exceptionally lethal, causing massive tissue damage and shock. It is now marketed as "reduced hazard" due to less over penetration.

Frangible shotgun slug shells are popularly called "door-breaching" rounds. This stuff is not just for the range.

Trap loads are not even close to full recoiling buck or slugs. A BT99 is a fairly heavy shotgun compared to an 20inch 870. Is your BT ported.

No, BT99 is not ported. I have several shotguns including self defense shotguns. Pump and semi auto. I prefer light weight and my favorite self defense shotgun weighs less than 7 pounds. Have shot plenty of 2.5 inch buck shot and slugs. I think much of the problem people have with a 12 ga is in their mind and not taking command or handling the weapon properly. However, 3 inch shells are a different animal.
