Missing From New CR Negotiations: Harry Reid
The National Review ^ | October 11, 2013 | Jonathan Strong

Staff-level talks between House Republicans and President Obama over a government funding bill are entering into day two after no decisions were made last night, according to two sources.

But one of the most interesting shifts is in who’s not involved: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Back before the government shutdown and before the fault lines of the current situation became clear, many Republicans viewed Reid, not Obama, as their most likely negotiating partner on both the continuing resolution and the debt ceiling. As evidenced by their public bickering over who wronged whom in the 2011 debt-ceiling fight this week, Speaker John Boehner and Obama do not have a history of fruitful negotiations.

As time wore on, though, Reid made clear not only that he himself wouldn’t budge, at all, on either debate, but that he was actively taking steps behind the scenes – like sidelining Vice President Joe Biden from any role – to ensure Obama toed the line as well.....

It is a very good bet that Reid is facing a rebellion in his own ranks. Somebody posted a generic poll yesterday that showed the Senate races in a dead heat. If Dems go into self preservation mode they will kick Reid to the curb and there is nothing that little mobster will be able to do about it.

Hmmm! Wonder if the real owners of Vegas and Reno are starting to realize that Reid is costing them money now and even more in the future?

It is past time to start boycotting Las Vegas and Reno, until those controlling those cities and casinos get rid of Reid.

Reid and Obama alternately act as shields for eachother. Obama can say, “hey, I never got anything so I couldn’t sign anything so I’m not responsible” and Reid can say “hey, the president said he’s going to veto this if we pass it so I’m just not going to bother going through the motions of passing it.”

This is the game they’ve been playing, likely designed by Schumer, to put all, literally all pressure on the Republican House.

But the people are watching and they’re not that dumb.

RE :”Staff-level talks between House Republicans and President Obama over a government funding bill are entering into day two after no decisions were made last night, according to two sources.

Given that Obama has not backed off his public stand that he will not negotiate nor compromise on CR or debt ceiling isnt the GOP house giving him some positive PR with these media stories about negotiations at White House?

A recent NBC/Wall Streeet Journal (single) Poll shows Congressional Republicans approval in 20s % and Obama’s back up to 47% much higher than the 37% the other day, on the shutdown.

So will a deal make Obama look like a Savior or look like a jellyfish who gave up another red line in sand?

“Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!”

I wonder how Obama signals to Harry that the earpiece isn’t working? Maybe there’s a backup earpiece in the bathroom.

President Obama wants to preserve his own legacy. He may just throw Senator Reid under the bus to do it if necessary.

Recall that McConnell insisted that Reid be removed from the fiscal cliff talks this past January and replaced by Biden.

Yeah, that could happen---- when you ask the questions in Spanish (cackle).

Of several presidential approval polls lately, this one is the outlier...

The idiotic Rassmussen daily tracker has had Obama above 50% for much of the past week. They have his approval at 51% today...

Correct. This is SOP under Obastard and Reid: Play "hide the ball." This is why Boehner announced after the election he would no longer take part in "private" negotiations. The Democrats lie about what transpires. They always did, but it's gotten worse under Obastard.

But the people are watching and they’re not that dumb.

I wish I could agree with that.

Every bit of this is kabuki theater. Its not like it was all scripted before hand exactly, but I think people might be surprised how close that analogy is to reality.

If the republicans reall want to fong things up, they should insist they will only negotiate with Biden.
