The furor in the West over Russias new law placing restrictions on the discussion of homosexuality continues to dog the conductor Valery Gergiev, who is one of Russias most important cultural exports these days. Mr. Gergiev, a prominent supporter of President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, who signed the law, drew protests Thursday night at Carnegie Hall, just as he did last month at the opening night of the Metropolitan Opera.
Shortly after Mr. Gergiev walked onto the stage at Carnegie Hall to begin leading the celebrated Mariinsky Orchestra in a program of three Stravinsky ballets, the concert was briefly delayed by several members of Queer Nation, a protest group that has been vocally pushing for gay rights in Russia.
Gergiev, your silence is killing Russian gays! several protesters shouted, as Mr. Gergiev, in tails, kept his back to the audience. Some members of the audience booed the protesters; others applauded. One woman yelled, This is an artistic event!
The protesters were removed from the auditorium, and the concert proceeded.
[Gergiev] told RIA Novosti, the Russian news agency, this week that he did not discriminate at the Mariinsky Theater, where he is the artistic and general director. But once you start to talk like this, you start to sound like someone who has to apologize, he was quoted as saying. We have nothing to apologize for.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t private homosexual activity between consenting adults legal in Russia? Don’t they have the freedom to practice their perversions in private so long as they don’t try to propagandize children into believing that homosexuality is normal? If so, that seems pretty reasonable to me.
The Russians. Champions of human biology.
Putin’s head must be swimming to see where the mighty USA is heading.
Now we are governed by faggots, gun-fearing wussies, lesbo-men, muslim sympathizers, career moochers and garden variety idiots.
And each one has mobs of their faithful shouting in the streets for More! More! More!
“We have nothing to apologize for.”
Bears repeating ...
It’s the faggies’ way or the highway. As usual with their never ending demands for special treatment & recognition based solely upon their perverted use of their genitals.
As predicted, and as fully expected, homosexuals do NOT want equal rights; they want nothing less than homosexuality to be declared “normal” and given equality/superiority in law.
Why weren’t the protesters arrested?
Not good enough for the reprobates. If fact, nothing will ever be good enough for them, because they innately know what they are doing is wrong.
Why would people who aren’t breaking any law be arrested?
Do you really have to ask that, with the current tyrannical government we now have in D.C.?
Sorry, I replied to the wrong thread.
I’m sure even NY has laws against “disorderly conduct.” You can’t disrupt an event at will without incurring criminal consequences. Allowing such is allowing disruption of public order.
I’ve never cared for Gergiev’s conducting which I find somewhat crude with tempi taken too quickly. However, I applaud him for supporting Putin’s stand against homosexuals.
