Enrollment improving as state health care exchange glitches waning (WA)

For 18 months, Joe Titus constantly worried about getting seriously ill after he lost his medical coverage after he was laid off from his job as a drug and alcohol counselor.

Titus was able to sign up for a Premera Blue Cross plan. The plan’s monthly premium is $349.13. However, because Titus has no income he qualified for tax credits to cover his premium and co-pays for his diabetes and asthma medication and doctor visits, reducing his co-pay and premium to zero.

Vancouver resident Guy Kirchgatter also said he had a good experience with in-person navigators, getting help at the Family Health Center’s Woodland Clinic.

In 30 minutes, Kirchgatter was signed up for coverage under the Apple Health plan, the state’s newly expanded Medicaid program, which requires no monthly premiums.

Kirchgatter is unemployed and, because of an arrest record, has difficulty finding a job.

I haven't seen any news articles about young healthy people signing up for Obamacare. I suspect virtually all of the 51,000 early adopters are old, sick, and qualify for either a 100% Obama subsidy or Medicaid.

An “arrest record” should have absolutely nothing to do with finding a job. I think they meant “conviction record” in this case.

The young and healthy are gonna willingly go from paying $0.00 a month to shucking out hundreds of dollars for Obamacare? Rotsa ruck with that, Chuck.

Most large companies check for criminal records. I doubt an insurer would want to take chances with a guy who committed crimes in the past. Especially if it was crimes where bodily injury, such as being shot by a homeowner while breaking into a home, is possible.

The “Free Lunch” crowd getting something for nothing, and that is reported as a good result. Work is for suckers!

Judging by the healthcare.gov facebook page, it does appear the only people happy and signing up are those with heavy or entire premium covered by subsidies. If you are a productive citizen, this system screws you hard. I figure the economy will surely be tanked by this time next year with everyone’s discretionary income swallowed up by this beast. But hey, I’m just a bible toting, gun carrying, greedy conservative so what do I know.

Just heard a caller into talk radio say that her grandson (who is an optometrist) said that even eye doctors are required to weigh you and ask certain questions (having nothing to do with your eyes) because of obamao-”care” requirements.

Ah, so all is proceeding exactly according to plan.

Honest working people better stock up on KY (by the quart), the fun is just beginning.

BC keeps sending me letters, telling me I am grandfathered in and don't have to do anything to keep my plan, just keep paying the premiums. But what my premiums will be in January never seems to make it into the letters. I spent an hour on the phone with them, being shuttled from one person to the next (they were all very polite) until one said that BC probably wouldn't decide on my premium until about 3 weeks before my policy renewal date.

My wife & I are already planning on how we are going to handle not having insurance. Talked to doctors about cash terms. The hospital is a joke. They give gobs of charity to "the needy" (I know the scoop on a lot of those around here who are getting free care via charity - a lot of them ought to be kicked out on their asses, IMO). But the hospital is unwavering in their dealings with those of us who have insurance plans with less than optimal coverage. The wife and I each have a $5k deductible. They won't cut us 1¢ of slack on our bills.

Another nice thing for those of us not on charity. The hospital now makes automated collection calls 20 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF THE BILL. I was steamed. I called them and told the lady that 30 days is standard everywhere, including my customers and suppliers. I told her that if I got another one before a bill was 30 days, I would pay them $5 a week until hell freezes over. Really set me off.

“...As of Wednesday, about 25 people enrolled for health insurance with the help of certified in-patient “navigators” at the Cowlitz Family Health Center’s five locations and 14 partner locations....”
********************************************************************
Let’s see, 19 “locations” (5 + 14) with God knows how many taxpayer funded “navigators” per location has managed to sign up 25 people in the first 1 1/2 weeks. Highly efficient operation these progressives have built—something proudly to write home to Mama about.

And of these 25 “successes”, they cite two examples—both of whom are unemployed (apparently long-term and likely permanent) and who will be paying ZERO for their insurance and “co-payments”.

Where are the “healthy, young and productive” who the progressives said would be (stupidly) signing up for Obamacare to “pay the freight”? You can bet your boots that if they existed the mainstream media would be parading them before the nation in a victory parade. I guess that while they are “low information” enough to vote for nit-wits such as Obama they are not stupid enough to sign up for something that will not benefit them.

What have Obama and his progressive minions wrought for our nation?

Gomert on Beck’s show now, saying that Boehner is now in a meeting with Obama, and is “giving up on 98-99% of Obamacare, so they [RINOs] can say that they got something from Obama.”

They can ask all they want. Are they going to deny me care if I don’t answer non medical questions?

Not yet. But you can bet they will when the government finishes its takeover of healthcare delivery.

Are the frogs going to jump out of the pot before it comes to a boil? I don’t think so.

Arrest records should not be available to employers. As a matter of fact, IIRC, asking about arrests (versus felony convictions) is an illegal question and considered discriminatory.

Obama will likely agree to dump the Medical Device Tax. That is very unpopular with some Blue State Dems in areas where these companies employ a lot of people (MA, PA, CA, MN...) and the RINOS are being lobbied heavily for this by the Chamber of Commerce crowd.

Boehner will take this as a “win” and claim he took a bite out of Obamacare. Nothing will change for you and me though, and we’ll go into debt even faster as they lose that revenue but don’t cut the program.

Sure if you qualify for Medicaid and get your health care for free what’s not to like. However I’m sure there are many in Washington who are getting sticker shock from the rate increases.

Concur, the only people they ever cover are the people that do get it for free. That has been the trend that is being pushed top to bottom, national to local by the press. My local paper wrote an almost identical article, with one guy qualifying for Medicaid due to low wages and the single mom qualifying for 0 premium. The single mom hadn't had healthcare in two years and worried about her child not having healthcare. Of course if that lady had spent a minute online, she would have figured out her kid qualified for free medical under CHIP. The new Medicaid recipient qualifies due to low income, which he has because he works for a couple months and then travels for a couple months. You and I get to help subsidize his globe trotting lifestyle.

As far as the WA state website goes, it was AFU the first couple days. It is better than the federal site, because you can shop rates without fully registering. The first couple days, no matter what you put in for a family configuration, you got a quote for a different random family. That seems to be fixed.

What I wonder about is this subsidized co-pay program the out of work drug counselor is getting. So on top of free premiums this guy has no co-pays? What about deductibles? For anybody getting stuck paying for their care the premiums are just the beginning of their pain. The deductibles are going to crush people too.

I was with the state unemployment/employment office half of my adult life, so I’m somewhat familiar with labor law. Now, in the real world your mileage may vary. But on paper, you can only “discriminate” in hiring based on felony convictions or misdemeanors that are employment-related, but arrests are not supposed to be taken into account in any way.
