New Gop Shutdown/Debt Plan, But No Agreement Yet
AP ^ | Oct. 11, 2013 | By ALAN FRAM and DAVID ESPO

In addition to ending the shutdown and increasing the debt limit, under the proposal Congress and the White House would explore ways to ease across-the-board federal budget cuts that began taking effect a year ago, and replace at least part of them with benefit-program curbs that have been included in recent presidential budgets. Officials who described the approach did so on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to discuss private conversations.

With the weekend approaching, and the deadline for raising the debt limit five days away, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said it was time to "put this hysterical talk of default behind us and instead start talking about finding solutions to the problems."

McConnell and Senate Republicans met with Obama at the White House, a session that lasted about 90 minutes. Returning to the Capitol, GOP lawmakers huddled with McConnell, who told reporters, "Now we're back here to actually work on trying to get a solution on a bipartisan basis."

Why are you presuming Obama will be ok with not getting everything he wants? When has Obama ever been ok with not having every single one of his demands satisfied? Ditto for Reid and Pelosi. I sense that they are gonna demand all or nothing and the House GOP will by Oct 17 have given them all.

Boehnor and McConnell are still trying to figure out how to translate surrender so it sounds like victory.

That’s my take as well. It’s all going to come down to spin...but they will make it sound like a win...no matter what really happens.

Is that Maple or Ash?

I've always favored ash.

Which will be promptly unspun by Obastard's victory laps and end zone dances.

I like Maple, although the Pitchers don’t much like it because Maple splinters all over the infield when it breaks.

I didn't say he was OK with it. But I did say he does not get all he wants:

Gun control

Cap and trade

Sequestration

Recess appts denied

I still think he and the Senate are gonna opt to try and force the worse kind of default and try to cause as much hyper inflation and us dollar collapse as possible, make sure the MSM convinces the public that the House GOP forced him to make all these defaults and then keep the gridlock even after that. Considering how gullible much of public opinion is, these sneaky attacks could work to get Obama to have all his demands met and lead to the GOP losing their majority entirely. Why wouldn’t Obama go for that instead of doing anything to satisfy the GOP? What would be his reasons for not trying to force the worse kind of default and then looking to make sure the American public thinks the House GOP gets all the blame?

You r probably right. I start to get needlessly worried...I break my own rule and start believing the press. I just cannot believe the Republicans would walk away with nothing. I have a family member and I dread the call, “so, they didn’t shut down Obamacare so what was the shutdown all about”?

You may not have noticed, but when the stock markets takes a dangerous turn downward, Obama caves.

I had to laugh in Dec. 10 when the Bush tax cuts were about to expire. The stock market tanked as the end of the year approached. At the 11th hour Obama relented and signed the extension. Why? His Wall Street friends and Chicago billionaires like Penny Pritzker do not want their investments to go up in smoke.

There are far more Democrats in high finance now then there used to be. Obama will use the economy as a bargaining chip but he's not going to willingly lose the money the left uses for all their limo liberal causes.

When we get means testing for Medicare or an eradication of the medical device tax and/or one or more of a handful of other items you can tell your family member that it wouldn't have happened without the shutdown.

If they do, the Republicans are going to get slaughtered next year. People are paying attention, and are fed up. They will not show up just to vote for an “R”, and without conservative voters, the Republican party is nothing more than a bunch of empty suits.

It looks like the Pubs are going to surrender. If they do they will have played right into the Rats hands. Even with gerrymandered districts the Pubs might lose the House when the base just says "why should I vote". Forget winning the Senate.

I know I won't vote for any non Tea Party Pubs if they sell us out.

If Republicans were to lose the House it would be a catastrophe and the fault of the voters. Anyone except a RINO/Libertarian is going to vote Republican to stand against Obama/Reid/Pelosi. Anyone who does not vote Republican is responsible for giving the nationalist socialist more power.

I've heard this argument all my life - the other guy is so bad you have to vote for the Pub - and I believed it for a long time. I voted for McCain, Romney, Bush, Dole you name them I voted for them. If they won't get behind someone who is willing to fight for me then they are no better than the socialists.

Enough is enough.

When we get means testing for Medicare...

And why is this a good thing. I'm a self employed businessman and have paid both sides of this tax for over 30 years and when I'm over 65 I have to pay a higher premium than someone else because I've been fortunate and good with my money? I don't see a conservative principal at work here. I see the socialist model based on envy.

And at a time when we can’t reach our “elected” officials.

Man, this sucks.
