DETROIT (WJBK) -- A contractor convicted of tag-teaming with a Detroit mayor to commit corruption worth millions was sentenced Friday to 21 years in federal prison.

Bobby Ferguson's punishment was more than double what his attorneys had sought. It came a day after former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was sentenced to 28 years in prison, one of the longest penalties in recent cases of public corruption in the U.S.

Gosh, and a federal sentence means at least 85% of what it says so he’s on the hook for about 18 years at a minimum.

Don’t worry, Bobby, you and Kilpatrick are going to prison just in time to take advantage of Obama’s sex change surgery, compliments of the tax payers. Soon, you will be much more than one of Obama’s sons, you’ll be his daughters too.

I'd like to see more investigative journalists like Detroit's Charlie LeDuff. He's libertarian to liberal but generally very good and has that old school bulldog mentality.

Kwame and Bobby are gone but it ain't over Detroit

Beware, Detroit, of these corporate wolves, these self-appointed saviors. The ones we call "Mister." The ones who get tax breaks and then don't pay their taxes. The "business leaders" who tell the mayor and county executive how things are going to go before putting a little nugget in their campaign accounts. The ones we put on pedestals and billboards.

Beware of the fangless lapdog media who believe these wolves are actually sheep. Those reporters and editors and publishers who want a chair at the banquet table and the cocktail party. These "journalists" trumpet turnaround. They write clever, superficial things. They give endorsements on their opinion pages without having had the courage to vet their anointed one.

I'm supportive of business doing heavy lifting in Detroit but also agree that they need to be kept honest.

There are definitely some shifting attitudes in Detroit. That’s why the other Kwame quit from the city council and took a job with the city in Jackson Mississippi. His black nationalist BS outlived its shelf life and people were ignoring him so he left.

They are building 2 new elementary schools here plus doing upgrades and additions on other schools. This isn’t a big town, about 55,000. All of it ($54 million) was awarded to one general contractor. Hmmmm....

CC....

I am sure you noticed Kawame got 28 years, if he serves 85% of that, that is still 24 years. His kids will be grown, his Mom and Dad will have passed and he will miss their funeral(s). He was unrepentant according to the judge, but he has 20+ years to think about it. What a waste, I don't revel in his failure, but he could have been so much more. You do get the sense the Fed's are sending a message. That 24 to 28 years is a "generation" if you will, and IMHO they are trying to fumigate that place so that this doesn't happen again for quite sometime, and Fed time seems different if you will, nothing to mess with...

I agree and its too bad but he had every chance and still chose to play the role of kingpin thug rather than mayor.

Interesting that he doesn’t take the traditional environmentalist “Shut it all down” stance but goes with a more sensible approach of saying that Detroit needs the industry with a balance

Why would King Fubo wait until then? He considers himself to be above the law, so why would he even care about mere convention? He doesn't fear the media, he doesn't fear Congress, and he doesn't fear the people.

"Evidence at trial showed Kilpatrick often went to bat for his buddy and punished contractors who didn't make room for Ferguson on excavation projects."

Very interesting. There are builders' and contractors' rackets in many locales around the country. Owner-builder efforts are often obstructed for them.

In a sense the feds do it as a matter of law.

When our local post office needed a concrete parking pad laid for a handicap space they couldn’t hire the guy down the street. They had to find a contractor who met all the federal specs for diversity, wages etc. We ended up with an arab crew coming from 70 miles away in Detroit and it took 3 weeks to do an afternoon’s work.

Fortunately the state legislature just eliminated those regulations for contractors working on state funded projects.

That whole bunch was in Hillary’s camp in the primary. The question is, would he rather indulge his vindictiveness or his contempt for the Constitution?

An enraged electorate might take it out on other DemoRats if he pardons before November general elections.

I'd like to think that would happen, but we're dealing with the vast herd of low information voters. Who's going to make it an issue? The MSM? The GOPe? As long as the LIVs can sit slack-jawed in front of their telescreens, there will be no outrage. The same people who celebrated when OJ got off on the murder charge probably think that these crooks should have never been tried.

Its not an arbitrary sentence

Its the 1984 congressional sentencing guidelines ....which took effect in 1987

They are draconian and responsibilities rigid

From 0-level 42.....the latter being RUD....removal upon death

This sentence is based on the dollar amount for public corruption

Had the mayor been contrite he might have gone down from a level 38 to a 36.....24 years if memory serves me right

One is also enhanced as the leader which I assume he got

Appeal over sentencing is a rule 2255.....very very rare

a 5k1 is for cooperating

Something I would not be surprised to see coming from him

28 calendars is a stiff bit

Freeper laugh about time like its a video game

Anything over a year or so is life altering on a scale like death in family or shock divorce

This fellow is hammered

States are still fairly soft and arbitrary judges discretion

Feds.....give out time exponentially greater than ever in our history

I’m ambivalent

I think the sentences are meant to send a message not only to Detroit leadership but to city leadership nationwide. Kilpatrick didn’t do himself any favors acting like he was untouchable throughout the trial but leaving the country, hiding money, failing to show up for court etc.

Contrary to what the no info FReepers are saying, Detroit turned on Kilpatrick long ago and he’s pretty unlikely to be pardoned by Obama.
