Obama Rejects Key Part of Latest House GOP Proposal

President Barack Obama on Friday rejected a critical part of the House Republicans’ latest proposal to extend the federal debt ceiling, which linked a short-term increase to further negotiations on the budget, White House spokesman Jay Carney said.

“It is our view that we cannot have a situation where the debt ceiling is extended as part of a budget negotiation process for only six weeks, which would put us right back in the same position that we’re in now,” Carney told reporters in a briefing at the White House.

“A proposal that puts a debt-ceiling increase at only six weeks, tied to budget negotiations, would put us right back where we are today in just six weeks, on the verge of Thanksgiving and the obviously important shopping season leading up to the holidays,” he said. “And that would create enormous uncertainty for our economy.” …

I think I see what Obama’s endgame is.

He’s trying to force Boehner into passing legislation by suspending the ‘Hastert Rule’, specifically, a ‘clean’ continuing resolution/debt ceiling hike.

If Obama can force that, it’s game over for Boehner and the GOP leadership once and for all.

When GOP capitulates 100% watch the base stay home in the mid-terms and the RINOs lose the House.

"In the case of the House Republicans in particular, there's an indication of a recognition that we need to remove default as a weapon in budget negotiations — that the threat of default should not be used and that default itself is never an option."

I'm so sick of these liars.

As most here know, there is no danger of default. Carney, just like his boss and most of DC and the media that covers them, is a liar.

They are all liars. And they control our lives and they are fixing to control our children's lives.

When Reagan took office in 1981, the sentiment about the USSR was that it was the inexorable expression of the will of history. It had to be dealt with as a natural fact. Reagan had another view - “We win, they lose.” He stood up to the Soviets on all levels and faced them down. I figure that Congress, with just ten percent of Reagan’s resolve, could face down the community organizer/agitator.

A six week extension is a whole lot better for him than none.

It’s all the Republican House members are willing to give him, and if the Senate Republicans don’t ride to his rescue Saturday it’s all he’s gonna get.

One suspects that it is quite likely "game over" for Boehner. (Think "primary" here).

I don't say that Boehner is a bad person, but he's inept beyond inept, and (as nearly as I can tell) he can't think one move ahead, and he doesn't care for preparation or homework. (Corrections invited)

IIRC, we got the sequester-based screwing of our military thanks to Mister Boehner's inabilities; and there was never any reason to think that HE could think any more clearly in a second term as SOH.

I welcome challenges to my opinion (even if your name is Boehner).

You’re right but if I were the Speaker I would move on to other business until the President and Senate want to work within Constitutional boundaries. What was the latest news about our education system; that American adults are dumb as rocks. Listen to Nancy Pelosi, she is the perfect example of “Idiocracy” (the movie) and proves this claim to be true. Maybe Congress should take aim at the education systems; get rid of social and politically correct crap and go back to basics.

Inept is appropriate ... but even more damning he's the quintrssrntial Washington insider. A fat cat that has enjoyed the perks of office far too long and comes across as resenting his leadership role because it thrusts him into the spotlight exposing his incompetence. Boehner needs to go ... no question.

Actually Boehner may grant a three month extension to get the issue past the holidays.

This would require the Senate Republicans to block Harry’s ‘rule’ for his debt limit bill tomorrow.
Then House Dems must vote to pass the three month extension.
He cannot get R support for that long.

To get the conservatives to let him do this deal Boehner will have to agree to stick to the CR/Obamacare fight and minibill strategy- no matter what the Senate Republicans do- or something of equal value to them.

That is what I have been thinking every time Obama rejects their many offers to cave. lol! I heard Romney on Fox the other night and they asked him what he regreted in his campaign. He said “Not reaching out enough to Hispanics and being more inclusive. There you have it. We are nobody and amnesty will give them their voters to replace us. That is why we get tossed a few crumbs but not taken seriously.

Obama smells blood in the water. He won't settle for 100%. He will go after 130%. He will want immigration reform + more spending. Obama is several moves after of Boehner. Obama wants an immigration bill to pave the way for more 2014 election fraud.

Let it HAPPEN! Let the damnable government spend right up to the debt limit, and challenge the a$$clown in the WhiteHut to a showdown. Keep the message out to the people...

The pubbies have passed a CR to keep the government open. The dhimmicraps refuse to consider it.

The pubbies in the House have NO OBLIGATION to raise the debt ceiling.

The outcome of hitting the debt ceiling SHOULD be that FedGov is immediately forced to live within its means, and prioritize outgoing payments. The gubmint gets about $220 billion EVERY month in revenues. Currently the debt service is $24 Billion. That’s manageable. Upcoming redemptions are a different story. In recent times, it appears, the gubmint has been rolling the redemptions to new debt. Without an increased debt limit, that won’t happen, so another alternative needs to be undertaken.

The down side, here, is that Zero and 0bamunists get to decide what gets paid...

The dhimmicraps are the hold up on this stuff, but I’m all for letting the debt ceiling remain where it is and let’s see what happens. It’s insanity to keep raising it. We will never repay all of it, anyway. Let’s stop the madness, deal with the fallout, and move forward.

There have been so many different headlines at different times today that I can't tell where we are anymore.

Drudge's current headline has us already sold down the river by Paul Ryan: "opening" the gubmint, raising the debt ceiling, backing Obamacare, and swishing down the aisle with Obama like just another homo wedding.

Is that just more b.s.?

Heh. Depends on your point of view, I suppose.

I think what Obama is doing is manuevering Boehner into an impossible position, a situation where Boehner will feel he simply has no choice but to suspend the ‘Hastert Rule’ and do the clean votes.

Probably be the last thing he does as Speaker of the House, and I’m sure he knows that as well. And he’s probably to hold off doing it until the last possible moment.

You know what really needs to happen is to bankrupt the lame-stream media; put them out on the street out of business. We don’t need more fiction; we need facts and truth. This President will go down in history as they very worst we ever had; there is absolutely nothing good or decent about the man.
