Skip to comments.JPAC admits to phony ceremonies honoring ‘returning’ remains (Fake war dead recovery)

The Department of Defense unit charged with recovering servicemembers remains abroad has been holding phony arrival ceremonies for seven years, with an honor guard carrying flag-draped coffins off of a cargo plane as though they held the remains returning that day from old battlefields.
The Pentagon acknowledged Wednesday that no honored dead were in fact arriving, and that the planes used in the ceremonies often couldnt even fly, and were towed into position. The story was first reported on nbcnews.com.

That's what I thought.
As phoney as obama.
This is really so typical of the average government employee(s) trying to justify their existence. Too many have jobs that do nothing and they just want to do nothing until they can retire. They put up a false front and people leave them alone..all the way up the chain of command.
One would think that the 17% shutdown would put an end to this disgrace.
I just can't figure out why this would be done.
coming from a family with a strong military service record, I have to say I’ve lost so much respect for the military....
More evidence of the government fat cats padding their pockets with fake things.
One would hope so and one would also hope the officers involved are busted to private and at minimum kicked out with dishonorable discharges.
The only positive is that it was uncovered by NBC.
As I read the article it appears to me that remains arrive and they don’t know if they’re American. They take them to a lab and do tests. Once identified as American they then hold this ceremony. It’s a muddled attempt to honor a fallen American ... Better way to do this? I’m sure there is. But it seems to be an effort to honor our fallen soldiers regardless.
The only positive is that it was uncovered by NBC.
My second thought after WTF !!!!!
Apparently when they bring the remains in they may not know who it is or even if it is actually the remains of an American.
If after the remains are identified they have a ceremony that a fallen American has been brought home, I don’t really have a problem.
“Welcome back my friends....
..... to the show that never ends”
I sure wouldn't want a ceremony for remains that turn out to be of a Japanese soldier.
What you said!
I don’t see the point.
This doesn’t make sense.
BIG government putting on a puppet show to keep the low/no information types happy and give them warm fuzzies about DemocRATS.
Sounds like lame theater.
Is this the military or a civilian org. within the DOD?
They could hold the ceremony taking the remains from the lab to somewhere else. They don’t need the prop C-17 or to pretend that the servicemember “just arrived” if they’ve had to bring them into the lab to do the DNA analysis and ID them.
I have no issue with them holding a ceremony to honor a fallen American being identified. I do have an issue with them doing this stupid Kabuki theater of putting them on the bus, sneaking them over to a non-functional C-17, then acting like they “just arrived” when they’ve been at JPAC for a while being identified. Why lie? Honor those whose remains have been positively identified, you don’t need a plane to do that.
Mostly during the Bush administration, I’ll bet.
This has McCain stink on it, I bet.
GOOD thinking, or JFKerry’s.
My Dad spent 27 years in. 3 wars, and he died in Vietnam. I did 25 years in, although the ‘combat time’ I got flying was NOTHING like what my Dad went through. My son has done 2 combat tours with the Army. My son-in-law did 2 tours in Iraq with the USMC in infantry.
But the honor and integrity I expected was slipping away even before I retired in 2008. And now? Like the rest of our society, it has turned upside down, with evil being called good and good evil.
The Government,Like a fish is rotting from the head first. This government lead by Obama is truly rotten.
How does anyone watching know if there really are remains in those boxes?

Key sentence: “... a TURF WAR between The Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command and the Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office, which shares some of the same responsibilities....”
The POW/MIA office has the primary mission of finding MIAs, while JPAC is to identify the remains. Thus I see the turf war as a contributing factor in this deception along with the following from the article: “In 2010, [CONGRESS] mandated JPAC to reach an annual goal of recovering at least 200 fallen troops from overseas battlefields by 2015....”
By the above sentence CONGRESS reinforced the turf war by giving JPAC some of the mission that POW/MIA is responsible for. Once again, COSTLY DUPLICATION. And I’m guessing that the “200 bodies per year” is behind the JPAC ceremonial deception.
I really don’t have a problem with this ceremony. It is a way to publically honor the deceased and to portray their return from overseas.
I suspect this is a way for someone in the Pentagon to fraudulently spent tax money and get a warm and fuzzy from grateful taxpayers. It also closes some books with our former enemies who are now our friends. This is a scam similar to the disappearance of our gold in Fort Knox. The gubermint ordered some Tungsten bars 15 years ago from a tungsten supplier. The bars were then plated with gold and put into certain stockpiles. The real gold was sold to China and Britain. All our gold is now gone.
Jeepers... Thanks for the ping!
Can we even be sure that the men dressed in uniforms are soldiers?
What if they are all a bunch of anti-military leftists playing the part to throw the wool over everyone’s eyes?
That was going on under the Clintons. Don't know if they started it, don't know if they finished the job.
Reads like someone overdosed on war propaganda...Who woulda thunk they’d creep this low? These deceitful SOB’s are depraved...using our fallen for propaganda? Are you kidding me? Really?
So, they can do all this for show, but couldn’t set aside a few buck instead, to pay for broadcasting sports events to serving troops?
Do I have to question EVERYTHING the government says about anything at all? How far back?
Is General Grant really interred in Grant’s Tomb? Are there any remains in the Tomb of The Unknowns? Is Obama really fully vetted and qualified to be President?
Once broken trust is hard to ever regain.
This or maybe they got extra pay for participating in this bogus ceremony
I don’t see anything really wrong with this. Don’t the fallen deserve the recognition, no matter how much after the fact?
I can’t imagine anyone is ever going to dig up these containers to recheck identities and even if they did.....well it’s normal for an error to be made and differences of opinion and...and ...and...
