7 hours ago Obama: “This is not normal” Posted by CNN's Gabe LaMonica

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama on Saturday said House Republican agreement over the need to raise the debt ceiling and reopen the government, without agreement over how long, was a “positive development.”

Both Houses of the United States Congress are in session this weekend, and in his weekly address, Obama told members of the House and Senate to “pass a budget, put people back to work, and end this shutdown.”

The President, who updated a group of nearly 150 top U.S. business leaders on Friday on the conversations he has had at the White House since Wednesday on reopening the government and removing the threat of default on the nation’s credit, said small-business owners have “lost contracts, lost customers, and put hiring on hold” as a trickle down result of the partial government shutdown.

President Obama said “it wouldn’t be wise,” to temporarily raise the debt ceiling. “Kicking the debt ceiling can down the road for a couple months” would damage “America’s sterling credit rating,” he said. The GOP House has proposed raising the debt ceiling for six weeks, and though the United States lost its Standard and Poor’s triple-A credit rating more than two years ago - on August 5, 2011 - Obama called it unwise to “flirt with a first-ever intentional default right in the middle of the holiday shopping season.”

“This is not normal,” said the President,

Repubs need to read Saul Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals.

Yes, it should be mandatory reading. Perhaps they’ll get to it when they’re done reading the ACA bill.

It seems absolutely normal common sense to me for the authority to tell the out of control credit card spender that his credit limit is capped.

What’s abnormal about that?

What is abnormal is that the authority would even for a minute consider raising a spend-a-holic’s credit limit.

Now....that is insane.

His (Obama) answer is kicking the can down the road ...REAL far this time

and raising taxes which may save the ship (government) but further sink the country but he doesn't care about the country.

that’s the whole point !

when you hit the debt ceiling you are forced to a balanced budget all thru spending cuts.

that gives the republicans massive leverage in the negotiations because the default situation is massive spending cuts. if the democrats want to move more slowly to a balanced budget, they are going to have to make major concessions: real spending cuts, real entitlement reform, tax reform, regulatory reform

Senator Obama Criticizes President Obama's Out Of Control Spending

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a Sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. ...Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here'. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and Grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

-- Senator Barack Obama, March 2006

He’s right. He is not a normal president. A normal president listens to the will of the people. He does not impose his ideology on them once he knows they disagree. A normal president doesn’t shut down parks out of spite.

Sort of like passing massive government takeovers of one sixteenth of the US economy without reading the bill before your party alone passes it,right Mr. PHYSCOPATH?

It is “not normal” for the President to be so detached from reality, or to expect the American people to believe such obvious and persistent lies.

Once they stand for re-election, the deals are made—self-interest prevails over the general welfare.

I would like to know not only who visited the White House, but every Republican Senator.

Hire Americans.

Bring back American jobs. The problem is we’ve sent the economic base which helped build America, to a gigantic communist country (China) with no Plan B.

Well the time for a Plan B has arrived.

Bring back American jobs.

if the democrats want to move more slowly to a balanced budget, they are going to have to make major concessions

And they do not have the guts to make major spending cuts. Why not? Because then 0bama would have to be straight-up with the American people and explain these past 5 years have been a sham. Instead, they will leave it to the big bad Tea Party Republicans to sort out and take the blame.

I said this would happen even if Mitt Romney was elected. It would not matter who was President, this was coming. The democrats would have fought us either way and the propaganda mush-head media would have blamed Romney for the collapse. The only thing Romney had going for him was he was a business man and I honestly felt he would have been able to lead us out of the economic disaster. Keyword there was ...lead...

Their view of life outside government / the Beltway is very, very limited. Other than the pain forced by Obama, this government “shutdown” has been a big nothing.
