Food stamp fiasco results in declined benefits at some Coast, statewide stores (MS)

Food stamp users across Mississippi and neighboring states were being declined Saturday morning as they tried to use their EBT, or Electronic Benefit Transfer, cards at grocery, dollar and convenience stores.

A Sam's Club member services representative, however, said the cards would work if purchases were broken down into smaller increments worth less than $90, but one food stamps user said his card wouldn't work for a $4 purchase.

Who knows, that is probably paid for too.

I am amazed reading these tweets. Not an ounce if shame or pride. WTH have we created?

Why does it seem that Social Security is always going broke but welfare is always solvent? Oh wait, I forgot, working people fund both programs but only get a return from SS while welfare recipients get both and vote Demo-rat so they can reap the benefits without having to work!

We couldn’t afford that much meat. And the ‘croissant and sausage’ biscuits look spendy.

No wonder they’re all hella fat.

There was a fudge kiosk set up at BJ’s Wholesale Club, similar to a Sam’s Club, that had a handwritten sign accepting EBT cards.

Yes...that means more power to them to try and “help”. Problem is they are helping their greedy selves and not truly the people.

TALLAHASSEE, Florida —  There may be no treats come this Halloween for Florida Food Stamp recipients. That’s because benefit payments are projected to end on October 31st, 2013 due to lack of federal funding caused by the U.S. government shut down.

Glad I live in a rural area...

I just finished grocery shopping at Wegmans in PA and heard over the intercom that EBT cards were not working and they were sorry for the “inconvenience”. I was wondering how many people left.

Years ago when first married my wife and I passed on a roast we couldn’t afford. So we’re writing a check and see the roast in one of the two carts of food some deadhead is buying with foodstamps.

That was an affront to your dignity. You should have given them a beat down and jacked the roast.

Just kidding.

I HEAR YA!

DrO is forever telling me about the LOADED grocery carts he sees at Kroger's, Walmart and The Country Store every week, and he means LOADED, with expensive cuts of meat, lobster and fancy gourmet items!

No beans or potatoes for those folks, unless they're frozen and all fancied up.

In certain states, foster parents get a couple of bucks a month from the state to help cover costs. The elderly/home-ridden can also give their cards to someone else to shop for them.
