Anti-government anger fuels long-shot Maryland breakaway bid

8:08am EDT

By Ian Simpson

WESTMINSTER, Maryland (Reuters) - Scott Strzelczyk is fed up with what he calls political slavery in Maryland and sees one way out - creating a breakaway state, a feat that has not been accomplished since the American Civil War.

Riding a wave of anti-government sentiment across the United States, the small-town information technology consultant has launched a long-shot bid to get Maryland's five conservative western counties to secede from the state, one of the most liberal and Democratic in the country.

"We think we have irreconcilable differences, and we just want an amicable divorce," Strzelczyk, 49, told Reuters after pitching secession to the We the People Tea Party group in Carroll County, a county he hopes will be part of the split.

Secession won't work. It'll come down to some kind of clash in the not too distant future if things continue escalating.

Just as it was the Union vs. the Confederacy, the North against the South....next time it will be the inner cities against the 'burbs and the countrysides.

It'll be you and me, babe, versus the Dem conglomorate, i.e., the rich living in downtown city high-rise condos, the city regentrification yuppie-types, the inner-city minorities and put-upon ethnics, the enclaves of city limousine liberals and do-gooder types who just ADORE living in cities, the countless government employee drones, the union thugs plus the city artsy-fartsy, gourmet restaurant and media types....all of whom vote Democrat in statewide elections and for the Democrat machine candidates in city elections.

Probably most of them would fold in a New York minute when the rubber hits the road if and when folks get tired of being ruled by these city slickers.

Since they don't like guns, they maintain their power through ballot fraud, control of the city and state media, corrupt liberal judges, white guilt, the utilization of community organizers who hand out turkeys and booze on election day....plus sheer chutzpah.

The Democrat-controlled big cities are the tails that wag the sovereign-state dogs throughout most of the nation.

The assorted libs, socialists, commies, radicals, welfare queens, city media, downtown corporate and business moguls, government worker bees, union goons, the gimme crowd plus the professional victims which populate big cities actually LOVE every minute of their near-total voting power over the geographical-rest-of-their-individual states.

They will fight any attempts at secession with every ounce of manipulation in their bodies.

The point of this, not only here, but in other states, is to divorce the big-city liberal cancer from controlling the other smaller conservative bastions.

This Central New yorker concurs!

Peaceful secession either by counties from a state or states from the fed will never happen. Secession = War.

This is coming about because 60+ years ago, Chief Justice Earl Warren and the Supremes ruled that "Cows Don't Vote!"

Ever since then, Rural America has been on hind teat to America's Metro-Sexuals!!!

It's high time Rural America disociates it'self from the tax-sucking, water sucking, entitlement sucking metro-miserable counties!!!

I live in Washington co. I wish we could keep our state and let the garbage in the center rename themselves.

I agree. Let's expel Baltimore City, Prince Georges Co., and Montgomery Co. Let them join the Dictrict of Columbia.

They had T Shirts “I’m not from Maryland, Im from the Eastern shore”

***
Glad you could visit here in God’s Country. Transplant here to the Eastern Shore from the Western Shore.

I read an article a number of years ago that referred to a song, “I Don’t Give a Darn About the Whole State of Maryland; I’m From the Eastern Shore”. I have looked online, but I have not been able to find it.

St. Mary’s is beautiful. Maybe your county and mine, Kent, could join some others in forming the state of Eastern Maryland.

I wish.

They have promised us a Bay Bridge down here for years, but being down here we get nothing.
The Bridge over the Patuxent to Solomons (Calvert County)is in bad shape (actually it was in bad shape the day they built it. It hadn’t been built a year before they closed it to put braces around the pillars.) and if anything happens to it Southern Md. will be a disaster area as so many workers at Pax River will have to drive 50 miles to get around it.

Then they started charging us $6.00 to cross the Nice Bridge at Morgantown , a bridge that was built in 1937, it costs my nephew 36 dollars to take his truck across. But the increase keeps us from shopping for cigarettes and cheaper gasoline in Va. The Nice Bridge has back up of 5 miles and more during the summer, it needs to have a sister bridge built next to it, but all of Maryland’s funds go to Baltimore and Annapolis.

We need Owe Malley like we need another hurricane Hazel.
Taxes up the ying yang and support of Casa De Maryland , and homosexual marriage are his ideals. Yes I wish we could secede.

The Dinosaur Media is from another planet. That’s how much they understand things. “Anti-government anger”, try anger at government oppression. They somehow believe that there’s a free-floating “anger” out there, that somehow, irrationally attaches itself to “government” and becomes “anti-government anger”. That somehow “gridlock” in Washington is a factor? How frigging stupid can you be?

We see the same phenomenon in Colorado. I am a bit dismayed to see Virginia succumbing to the govt-employee-dominated Washington suburbs in the east in the person of a demonstrable gangster - Terry McAuliffe - who seems to be leading in the governor's race.

If anyone would care to look up civil war in their dictionary, they will see that it involves a fight between two or more groups to gain control of the government of a sovereign state. That is NOT what happened in 1860 with the Confederacy; they wanted quit of the United States. Whatever one might think of the whole event, one major effect of that war was the severe weakening of states' rights.

These secessionary movements are NOT comparable to a civil war, although they are comparable to the War Between the States in 1860-5. Even if they succeed they will still be a state as part of the United States... problematical...
