Union protesters on Strip call tourists losers, jerks (Las Vegas)

Protesters shouted names at tourists, calling them “losers” and “jerks” as they walked inside the Cosmopolitan on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The Culinary Union Local 226 put on the rally as part of the ongoing negotiations between the hotel and the union to sign a deal.

The Alliance to Protect Nevada Jobs posted the video on YouTube and says they wanted to demonstrate that union protesters are compromising potential tourists from coming back to Las Vegas.

“You don’t do that by calling tourists those names and berating them when they come here to spend their money in our city,” said Ron Futrell, spokesman for Alliance to Protect Nevada jobs. …

Bunch of “UNITE HERE” thugs. They are involved with the Change to Win Foundation along with the Teamsters, SEIU and UFCW.

I used to think - let them have unions if they want/ not for me. Now I think they should all be illegal. I talked to some during the Albertson’s strike here in Los Angeles a few years ago. They were SO RUDE to me — I just wanted to understand. One guy took me aside and was very nice, but the rest were rude to me - absolutely no reason.

Plus, they are sucking the cities and states and schools and governments DRY. They should all be tarred and feathered - especially this Las Vegas culinary one.

We used a music room at the local public school for our community orchestra rehearsals. Suddenly they wanted $1000 a MONTH! From free!! I started talking to folks I knew in the district. I was told, “The janitors are with the Teamsters. You will not win one concession.” Truly, we were lucky to get out without an $18,000 back pay! Disgusting.

Supposedly all the grocery unions are about to go on strike until their hours are adjusted so they can receive healthcare. 30 hrs is the cutoff and now their part time employees are all being reduced to 16 hr workweeks. Overheard at Safeway.

I realize a redundant question etc, BUT has anyone explained to these fools that if it weren’t for the Tourists Las Vegas would pretty much ‘go away’.

They can no longer ‘count’ on Gambling to support them as every Indian Tribe and most states have their own Casinos.

The greed here- in the big picture- is unbelievable.

“They” sit in MD, look at Atlantic City, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Delaware and say LOOK at all the MD cars sitting in those states etc....

The lotteries FINALLY figured out when all the States had their own lotteries, the money slowed down, SO, they went to multiple state lotteries and the Jackpots started getting larger.

I wonder when they will start selling 5 dollar tickets - that will really grow large jackpots, of course they will end up ‘pricing’ themselves out of business, but that is tomorrow...

Just use the ‘Rush L’ reasoning..if a buck a ticket can run jackpots of 30 or so mill, and 2 bucks can run up to 100 mill thrice as fast, why not just sell 20 dollar tickets. The ‘suckers’ will let you know when you reach the saturation point...

Are you obtuse, or being obstinate on purpose?

Yes, a lot of people lose money gambling. Many consider it the same as spending money for entrtainment. They also pay for shows, meals, hotels, drinks, etc. This does not make them “losers.”

But at any rate, you still apparently missed the damned point.

During that strike, they had a mass demonstration at one store. I went in and made some purchases--I don't think there was another customer in the store.

When I walked out, a bunch of demonstrators chanted at me, "Shame! Shame! Shame!" I waved my merchandise at them and they shouted more invective. I kept waving my merchandise and also flipped them off. Since the cops were there, I knew they wouldn't do anything other than yell.

I hadn’t planned on going in to Cosmo, but we decided we would go look around BECAUSE these idiots were out there doing this. They said nasty things about myself and my wife. I flipped them off going in and going out. We just walked around for a few minutes just to be contrary to what these union idiots were doing. My little way of showing them up, in a small way. :-)

On our honeymoon, my wife and I drove 3,500 miles around the western US. One of our stops was Vegas. We actually slept on the lawn next to the sidewalk by one of the larger casinos for a couple of hours. Meanwhile, the whole place made us sick.

The only part of our trip that was worse was Provo, Utah, for different reasons.

Whale, not all of ‘em. According to a study described in this morning’s WSJ, 10% of gamblers are weeners! As for jerks, it’s every service employee I’ve ever encountered in Las Vegas. Greedy jerks! You don’t know so-called aggressive panhandling by fully employed people until you’ve visited Las Vegas.

Replace gambling with Prostitutes.

This may give you a feeling about how I feel in that I am in agreement with driftdiver.

I think gambling should be legal. I think prostitution should be legal. But I also agree with G. K. Chesterton:

“The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking; he can ruin himself with gambling. If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.”

You can defend casino gambling all you want. It is not a virtue in any way, shape or form.
