Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday he would not vote for a deal to reopen the government and raise the debt limit if it cannot attract support in the Republican-led House, arguing there is little point in claiming victory if a deal does not pass muster in the other chamber of Congress.
If the deal cannot attract the majority of House Republicans, that really does compromise Speaker Boehners leadership, Mr. Graham told ABCs This Week with George Stephanopoulos, adding he understands that defunding or delaying Obamacare is not a viable option.
Mr. Graham said the last thing Mr. Boehner needs is to see his leadership tinkered with further, after the hard-right wing of the Republican Party insisted on changes to Obamacare as a precondition of any deal.
The strategy has not worked, and recent polls give poor marks to the GOP.

Maybe he learned that the NBC/WSJ has been discredited.
What a wacko bird he’s turning out to be today this sunday afternoon
“I will support Obama’s destruction of America, only if the other Repubs will.....”
POS.
Graham is finally understanding that his primary challenge is serious business.
He’s getting conservative religion, at least for now.
Graham is finally understanding that his primary challenge is serious business.
He’s getting conservative religion, at least for now.
But as usual he undercuts the conservatives.
..............Were in a compromised situation, but Im going on offense, Graham explains, in an interview at Petes Diner on Capitol Hill. Members of Congress and their staffs should not be exempted from Obamacare, and Im going to insist that if the Senate wants to move forward on any deal, we have to overturn the [Office of Personnel Management’s] ruling on congressional employees, or, at the least, force senators to vote on it in the coming days.
Now, I hope the House rises to the occasion here, Graham continues. But were down to stopping bad things, and the only bad thing at this point that we can really push on is the OPM rule. At this point, Im not sure if were going to get it, so Im going to object on any deal until I get that up-or-down vote. Thats only fair, and I believe the American people will be with me.
Grahams pledge to object to any deal that doesnt include a vote on the Vitter amendment could shake up the ongoing Senate negotiations. Senate Democrats arent interested in having that vote, and theyve asked Graham to not make this eleventh-hour demand. But the Democrats have moved the goal posts on a reasonable deal, he says. I know we cant complain too much about our self-inflicted wounds, but the Democrats have gone too far.
Good or Bad, I don’t care what Graham does or says anymore.
His goose is cooked with me.
When he does wrong it’s typical.
When he does right that’s nice but it’s too late.
He’s proven he needs to go.
Thanks for that.
I must disagree with you a bit on Sen Graham. He has been one of the few to attempt to stop the terrible affect of military budget cuts and what they are doing to our military. Very few Republicans, in the House or the Senate, are doing that.
Now, it is the Republicans, who to use their own words, want to "bake in" the Sequester, which every single economist and budget analyst says makes the Dept of Defense suffer the most.
Government Shutdown Negotiations Stuck On Sequestration
I am disgusted by the behavior of our Republican "leadership" who is willing to cause further harm to our national defense, while they have subtracted not one dime from entitlements, the real cause of our exploding debt and deficits.
Entitlements were exempt from Sequestration.
The men and women of the US military have done more for this nation than any other segment of the population. Moreover, in the last 12 years, these people have been deployed again, and again, and again - while America went to Pizza Hut and Forever 21.
Graham is a weasel. A shifty, self-serving creature of the senate who gets too much time on Fox News.
"You know how a voice can stir one. Your voice and the voice of Sibyl Vane are two things that I shall never forget. When I close my eyes, I hear them, and each of them says something different. I don't know which to follow." -Dorian Gray, or Lindsey Graham...........Take your pick
This man is completely adrift without a clue.
I appreciate you and your post and wish that Sen Graham for all his good points was a consistent and reliable conservative, but he isn’t. We all need to work on our character and our commitment to doing the right thing for the right reasons.
How so? He's only not supporting this Senate deal because he thinks it'll fail in the House. The principle of the thing doesn't even enter into his lame lib brain.
Leading from behind is now "going on the offensive"? LOL
Shut up, Linda. You're embarrassing yourself.
??
Of course. (Where's that "Captain Obvious" image?)
Uber RINO Lindsey Ping
"Republican by day, Democrat by night."
Want on or off this ping list?
Just FReepmail me
You said that Graham is "getting conservative religion..." My point is that he's not. He's just doing the usual political two-step, which only bears the vaguest resemblance to holding a true conservative position.
From the article:
Graham told ABCs This Week with George Stephanopoulos, adding he understands that defunding or delaying Obamacare is not a viable option.
Do you see my point? Graham still doesn't get that his job is to fight for the principles his constituents believe in. I don't think he's ever understood the basic principles we all believe in at all.
You are right - he isn't.
But he is right on what the Sequester is doing to the US military.
Very, very few of our Republicans see this truth.
You see this face?

That is the face of a weasel.
The only thing Mitch McConnell cares about is Mitch McConnell.
He is selling out our military men and women so he can brag about how much he "cut spending" and get reelected.
That is the truth.
Since Lindsey Graham and his liberal-Republican colleagues are not guided by PRINCIPLE but only by SELF-PRESERVATION, they must constantly be judging whom to CAVE IN to.
With the emergence of Ted Cruz, the strengthening of House Tea-Party Republicans’ backbones, and primary challenges to his own re-election bid, Lindsey Graham seems to be joining John Boehner in caving in to the Tea Party Republicans instead of, as usual, Obama and the Democrats. Which is a major development. But the House Republicans must stand firm.
“He must have heard something or knows the House is unified “
Nah. The dumb b*stard is just up for reelection.
What crap. We are the center!
McCain Loses! Or maybe Mr. Lindsay is just scared for his re-election campaign?
McCain Loses! Or maybe Mr. Lindsay is just scared for his re-election campaign?
Actually, I said, "Hes getting conservative religion, at least for now," implying (though I guess not obviously enough for you) that it's nothing but a phony act
It is time for him to be primaried, and go the way of Lugar, Arlan the Terrible and any others I didn't mention.
We will have a GloatAthon on FR that night, with the song "Na-na-na Hey Hey Hey good bye" being the theme song..
can’t say which oneswill go but it sure is going to be amost interesting primary season.
Whole lot of dead wood like this need jettisoning.
it’s getting hot in South Carolina
I'm sick of political opportunists. We need people of principle who truly understand and appreciate the Constitution; who do what they swear to do when they take the oath of office. I understand there are occasions we disagree on how taxes are to be collected and spent, but there ought to be no question in matters of the 2nd Amendment, the 1st Amendment, and many others that are under direct attack by foreign and domestic enemies who must, for the sake of peace and prosperity, be utterly defeated - some of them hung by the neck until dead. Graham is a political opportunist who needs to be unelected, and soon.
One thing that’s happened is Harry Reid is considering using “the nuclear option” to pass his debt limit bill.
That will make Senate Rrepublicans dependent on Boehner to get it voted down in the House- otherwise they lose what little power they have.
May be a bluff by Harry to get concessions, but they can’t give any concessions.
Fascinating.
“Graham is finally understanding that his primary challenge is serious business.
Hes getting conservative religion, at least for now.”
*******************************************************************
He is NOT getting conservative religion. He’s playing his same old poseur game of pretending to be a conservative while doing all he can to sabotage conservative efforts and to grease the wheels for progressive legislation and nominations of progressive judges.
In a word, he is despicable. NOBODY should fall for his fakery.
LOL

A liberal at worst, a follower at best.
You are toast linda so vote your conscience.
Sounds like a politician facing a primary challenger.

Eyeroll? Are you a teenage girl?
Are you a moron?
Bump for later
Geeez.....smooth your feathers down already.
It's hard enough to get people's precise meaning via text when they're being direct - much less so when they're trying to make a point through implication.
Are you a moron?

My goodness, you are touchy. No, the only morons I’ve seen lately are those who believe that Little Lindsey Graham is getting “conservative religion”.
Thanks Cincinatus’ Wife.

Sounds like the Senate RINOs are going to get their wish: a Dem House bill they can support.
Or maybe Boehner is hoping the Dems won’t pass it.
It’d sure get Linda’s vote...
Who in God’s name is stupid enough to believe Graham is suddenly becoming a genuine conservative?
Sorry about being touchy - - I’m sure we are on the same page when it comes to Miss Lindsey.

Fund the Yellow Labs....
Exactly, he is not doing it based on conviction or principle. He needs to go over to the Dems and get it over with..
According to
http://www.politico.com/story/2013/10/house-gop-ponders-short-term-debt-bill-98246.html
that will not include the CR so it may not get Linda’s support after all, it would get mine.
We're obviously on the same page, as regards Linda Graham, but I did misunderstand the intent of your primary comment. Text can be a troublesome communication medium.
