Schumer: ‘Mainstream Republicans’ Fed Up With Tea Party, Ted Cruz
cbslocal.com ^ | October 13, 2013

Posted on 10/13/2013 6:46:59 PM PDT by Tailgunner Joe

WASHINGTON (CBS DC) – The Senate has taken the lead from the House in attempting to devise a plan to reopen the government and avoid a potential default in the coming week.

Speaking with Bob Schieffer on Sunday, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said he is “cautiously hopeful” that the Senate can pick up where House negotiations have become deadlocked, and hopefully avoid the continued government shutdown through bipartisan Senate discussion.

“I’m cautiously hopeful, optimistic that we can come to an agreement and open up the government and avoid default based on the bipartisan meetings that are going on,” Schumer said on Face the Nation. Between President Obama, Senate Democrats and Senate Republicans, Schumer said, “There’s a will, we now have to find a way, we know the House won’t find that way, so all of it rests on our shoulders.”

The Democratic Policy Committee Chairman and member of the Senate Finance Committee said that much of the debate centers around how the parties are defining revenue and entitlement cuts. Adding that neither Democrats nor Republicans like the sequester, noting Sen. John McCain’s staunch opposition to cuts to defense.

Schieffer asked if there was something that could be given to House Speaker John Boehner in order to appease tea party and more right-wing conservative members of the house to “bring them along.”

“You hit the nail on the head, no one’s sure what will bring those people along. I think there’s a feeling amongst senate Republicans – whether it be Sen. Mcconnell, Sen. McCain, Sen. Collins – that if we can get a broad bipartisan majority to pass something in the next few days it may help crack the logjam in the House,” said Schumer.

“And of course, Speaker Boehner wouldn’t get the 40 or so people on the hard right to go along, but could get a lot of his mainstream Republicans,” continued Schumer. “I think these mainstream republicans are getting fed up with the tea party and Ted Cruz, they see where’s it’s leading them, to very low poll numbers…”

Schumer stated that some in the Senate believe that Speaker Boehner can’t lead, “but if the Senate leads, he could follow our lead.”

Schumer suggested that the government be opened for a period of time before the January sequester so that serious bipartisan discussions could continue.

He added that he hopes more centrist Republicans “break” from the more conservative faction of the party.

“When your party is doing as poorly as it has, mainly because they’ve let Ted Cruz and the Tea Party-type thinking lead them around – you break from that.”

How come it's always Democrats telling us how fed up the Republicans are with the Tea Party.

Were winning and the Democrats know it.

If the Republican party was self districting, the Democrats would stand silent and watch.

I'm fed up with Chuck the Schmuck Schumer who said "everybody does it" when it was determined in the Waco hearings that federal officials lied in their testimony about the use of incendiary devices.

"Who cares". "What difference could it possibly make at this time, anyhow?". "Everybody does it."

He's a lowly worm of a man.

Rand Paul’s immigration speech

Posted on 03/19/2013 7:04:07 AM PDT by Perdogg
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2998395/posts

...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

[but he’s not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]

Rand Slams Congress for Funding Egypt’s Generals:

Here's the passage at issue:
In the 1980s, the war caucus in Congress armed bin Laden and the mujaheddin in their fight with the Soviet Union. In fact, it was the official position of the State Department to support radical jihad against the Soviets. We all know how well that worked out.
Let's leave aside for now the insulting, utterly asinine, sickening, inexcusable use of the phrase "war caucus" to describe those (including Reagan!) who supported the mujaheddin against the Soviets. That word choice alone is almost entirely disqualifying for its purveyor to ever be president.

Instead, let's just look at a little history here -- because the ignorance evident in this paragraph is truly astonishing. One would be hard pressed to find even a single historian, whether right, left, or center, who would argue anything other than that the Soviet failure in Afghanistan was not just a huge factor, but probably an essential one, in the Soviets' ultimate loss of the Cold War.

Schumer: ‘Mainstream Republicans’ Fed Up With Tea Party, Ted Cruz

I think it's so sweet, understanding and empathetic for democrat criminals to decide what is troubling the opposition party...

But only after the "Republicans" (apparently) rented some b***s.

I wonder if the socialist/progressives are really a runaway spending monolith, with total ignorance of economics?

"Appease" is such a loaded word, and it plays into the negative media characteristization of conservatives, so you never know what kind of word games they're playing.

Especially from Schieffer, who's old enough to know what it means.

This is so obvious it’s funny. OF COURSE the dems want the RINO’S to believe this. They KNOW that if they can get the moderate republicans to vote like democrats, there will be a split in the GOP and that means absolute power for the democrats. Think about it: WHY IN THE WORLD would a liberal like Chuck Schumer give beneficial advise to HELP republicans?

I’ve said this before and will continue to do so. Conservative
Republicans are traditional Republicans. The job of liberals
is to come up with stupid, destructive ideas. The job of
conservatives is slow them down and/or stop them for the
sake of society. The weaker among the self-described conservatives
kowtow to the news media which has cast their lot with
the liberal agenda. Those of us who have the platform
to explain the players and the game to the uninformed
need to get busy.
