Shelves in Two Lousiana Walmarts Cleared When Welfare Recipients Thought They Were Getting Free Food

Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd confirms they were called in to help the employees at Walmart because there were so many people clearing off the shelves. He says Walmart was so packed, “It was worse than any black Friday” that he’s ever seen.

Lynd explained the cards weren’t showing limits and they called corporate Walmart, whose spokesman said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700.00 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Walmart said they wouldn’t press charges if she left the food.

So they found something to motivate these shiftless bums into being active.

Tell them that there were positions open a the same store and they would have all cleared out.

These incidents happened in a red state. Louisiana went for Romney in ‘12.

“Poor people” with smartphones and high-speed internet at home. Not to mention they all have cars.

Hunger does not recognize shame. But I wonder how many of the shoppers were over 300 lbs?

No they don’t. I have seen comment after comment, complete with thugged-up picture, bragging about how “I gits mine”. Sometimes they’re referring to welfare, sometimes to flat-out regular stealing, shoplifting, etc. Even pictures of the loot with the tags still on it, including those heavy plastic security tags, and comments about how hard it was to do the laundry while having to remove the security tags. Pictures and all-no shame whatsoever. See “Charleston Thug Life”.

What you suggested is not so far-fetched. I had a black co-worker once who'd lived in the DC area. He told me this was not an uncommon means of escape from the crappy public schools and culture for parents who really cared. Ghana, as just one example, offered high school boarding schools for about $800 per year. Most of these schools were run by Catholic orders or Protestant missionaries. Great structure, great discipline and great education. Most of the American students made friends with the local families and spent the holidays with them.

The tickets were rather pricey, almost as much as the school year tuition, room and board. But for less than $2000, his kids got a great education, made some decent friends and avoided the gang and drug thing completely. They also came home more respectful and appreciative of what we have in America.

It may not be a great solution for kids already into drugs and gangs. They don't deal with those kind of problems with kid gloves . . . but for basically decent kids who haven't gone in that direction, it can be a life changing event.

The entire DC area could send their kids for far less than what the taxpayers spend now.

There are those among us that don’t have the
“I shouldn’t do this because it’s wrong”
circuit in their brains.

I agree. I posted in another thread that it’s “uncanny” that this should happen now, with all the other things closing in on tax-paying Americans at once.

Meanwhile, we’re slaughtering our steer in a couple of months. :)

Oh, and one difference between here and our old home of 45 years, Seattle, is that on a walk from our house down to the church (one mile), on our way back in the moonlight we could make out a couple of guys working at something next to the road. When we got closer we saw in their flashlight the deer they were expertly field dressing.

Never would have seen that in our neighborhood in seattle. ;-)

Yeah, your post touches what I was hinting at in mine: EBT cards have become a major part of the engine which drives our consumer economy. Wal-mart honored those purchases because they didn’t want to alienate a major part of their customer base.

It happened in my town on the MS Gulf Coast. I had to go get dog food that night. I carried just in case.

Actually, this shows how fast news now travels via Facebook and Twitter, with Obamaphones...

We have nothing on our side to counter this, and it’s how memes get spread to the low/no-info voter.

THOUGHT they were getting free food? EBT is all about free food and free everything else for leeches who refuse to work.

More correctly, they thought they were STEALIING even more free food than the government normally steals for them.
