Potential Senate Deal Would Fund US to Jan. 15, Raise Ceiling Through Feb. 15

The latest outline of a potential Senate deal to end the fiscal impasse and government shutdown calls for keeping the government funded until Jan. 15 and raising the debt limit through Feb. 15, congressional aides told ABC News today.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell are spearheading the negotiations as the White House postponed a planned afternoon meeting with congressional leaders to give them time to do their work.

It is still a moving target, but the plan is the framework for what McConnell and Reid believe could make a deal -- "and avoid repeating this all over again at Christmas," in the words of one top adviser.

But it's unclear how House Speaker John Boehner, who is being advised on the plan, and his Republican conference would react to any Senate deal. Boehner met this afternoon with McConnell for about 30 minutes for "an update on negotiations," a spokesman said.

Looks like Senate Repubs are willing to sell EVERYTHING out to get the MEdical Devices Tax cut, NOT ABOLISHED, and claim "VICTORY!". (Which pretty much means the end of the Republican Party as a political force)

Senate Repubs were supposed to meet with Boehner, right now, but it seems that has now been delayed to Tuesday morning, per FOX

Does it include an across-the-board spending cut? If not, then it’s worthless.

I have heard the medical device tax is one of the main ways they were planning on getting funds for Obamacare?

They’ll repeal that tax and charge the general public a bigger tax in general for it. Bend over America here it comes again!

Who cares about the medical device tax cut. I don’t manufacture medical devices. I could care less if they get a tax cut or not. Why does the GOP continue to fall on it’s sword? (I know stupid question) Listen to “We the People”!

There better be some concessions in this. The medical device tax, yes it is a stupid tax, but that’s just tinkering on the edges.

Tactical Retreat - as long as we don't give in on Sequestration, run the clock out on Amnesty, and Let Obamacare become the front page fiasco that it is, we are winning....

Obamacare may take affect, but it's going to wake a sleeping giant, and we're ready to take it on. No Justice No Peace !!!

Because what “We The People” think doesn’t matter, what “WE THE MEDIA!” does, in the DC bubble.

The Dems have a long history of not keeping their part of any agreement they have ever made with the ‘Pubbies.

Why should we think they’ll keep this one? This is just another episode of “kick the can down the road”!

Isn't there a Real Estate Tax associated with Bammy-Dont-Care?

It seems to me that that tax is preposterous and should be the first to be expunged.

“I have heard the medical device tax is one of the main ways they were planning on getting funds for Obamacare?”

That is absolutely incorrect.

The medical device tax would only bring in revenues ot approx. 2.9Billion per year, a drop in the bucket for the ACA costs.

Further, the conservatives are being hoodwinked by “conservative Congressman anyway,... The excise tax is one of several manufacturers’ excise taxes included in subtitle D, chapter 32, of the Internal Revenue Code. Section 4221 of the Code provides that sales for further manufacture or export are exempt from these excises.

Meaning, the medical device tax is nearly the smallest tax created by the ACA, and the GOP conservatives bit off the smallest possible piece to chew, and even on that they can’t gain a win here. There were much much better ways to wrangle in the ACA, and the “conservative House members” chose the path of least resistance with greatest symbolic, but not substantive effect to latch on to in order to maintain their Tea Party creds.

You’ve been lied to, in ways you won’t understand until they find a new paradigm to lie to you,....

The medical device tax is not a concession. Everyone agreed it was bad and had to go. There had better be budget cuts in this.

As long as we keep sequestration level spending, it is not the worst thing in the world.

We need a few months of focus on one thing - the disaster called Obamacare. Once people see it isn't free and the supposed subsidies suck, it just could die of its own weight.

Clearly, even if the users loved it (won't), once the numbers start coming out of how expensive the actual care is to the gov’t (premiums won't be close to covering the costs), people might just rise up.

Points were made but we just keep getting killed by the press. Let's get past Christmas (there, I actually said it - not “the holidays”!) and deal in 2014; closer to, probably, the most important non-Presidential election in years.

The house needs to shoot this down.

Just keep the debt ceiling in place until 2014. Obama is bluffing. He’ll have to cut spending and there will be no default.

Dems are conceding that the tax was an idiotic idea. Revoking it helps undermine Obamacare. It was keeping R&D down in the medical field which blocks new products from coming on the market to help those with disease.

This part of the deal anyway is not the GOP falling on its sword; this is the Dems admitting they were wrong.

From Yahoo News:

“The Senate Democratic aide said that the final deal will probably include some income-verification measure with regards to obtaining subsidies for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act.

But it wouldn’t be anything “too impactful that changes ability to enroll in any meaningful way,” the aide said. The House passed a bill in September along party lines that would require the Department of Health and Human Services inspector general to set up a verification program before it grants subsidies.

Regardless of what happens, Cruz and Lee (and America) are going to be the long-term winners here. When Obamacare crashes and burns, it should be plain as day who rose up at the hour of need.
