Just checking in. 6:45 AM...We spent the night one our resorts, as we have no water at home. Pipes under the road were apparently broken. All is OK here, and no more aftershocks.
Will check back in when we get back home this morning.
Just now watching video on national TV here, with scenes from
our town, Dalaguete. There was some damage to the very old church.
Thanks for the concern and prayers from all FReepers. I was amazed at the number of threads and folks with interest.

All WILL be fine here.

Perhaps this event is forecasting a volcanic event.

I spent two weeks touring the Philippines on a travel writers’ press trip back in the 70s. Absolutely loved the country, and they loved me too...printed my stuff in their official travel magazine. One of my fave photos of me has Pinatubo in the background. We did go to Cebu, and also Zamboanga, where even back then, we had bodyguards.

I don’t envy you the earthquake and aftershocks, hang in. Other than these inconveniences, I hope you are enjoying a wonderful life there.

Thank you...Yes, I, along with my Philippine wife and our 2 year old boy, are having a great time, living at a beach.
The earthquake has been only an inconvenience for those in my town. The only problem now is lack of tap water, with no idea as to when it will return. There are apparently many broken underground lines....ooops, just now another aftershock !

What makes you think that I don't send money to people in need?

I also know that people in poor countries suffer MOSTLY because of their greedy and useless governments. Also, in all of these 3rd world sewers in the world, there IS money, but it's always in the hands of a few powerful families that control all the land, money and power. Those families produce the government, military and industrial leaders.

So, please don't lecture me. I lived in Mexico City for two years and in Saudi Arabia for five years. I know all about the poor...all over the world, not just in the your own particular bailiwick. I finally decided to leave Mexico because of the four "p"s that infest their country: poverty, pollution, police (corrupt) and politics.

And, I've been in a HECK of a lot more earthquakes than you as I live in EARTHQUAKE country. Shake, rattle and roll is what we do here.

So, please don't lecture me! I don't live in a third world sewer... and if you want to see corruption, look over your shoulder!

Important...Philippines relief effort.

Please donate to this effort if you can! Any amount you can send will do a lot of good. The Congressman Art Yap in Bohol, Philippines is leading a relief effort to help local citizens who are now living in tents to rebuild their homes. I am friends with his staff and can vouch for this as a legitimate effort. Click the above link to read his detailed account of the quake's devastation and to donate. The money will go for items like the following...

People are camping in public plazas, sports arenas and by the side of the national highway. A few bags of cement to repair kitchens and toilets, a few sheets of GI roofing for cover, wood panels and nails to erect some privacy and protection, a coat of paint for color and dignity, a faucet and pipes to restore water…..these do not cost more than a few thousand pesos per household but will go a very long way in getting people back on their feet.

You may now donate online thru http://www.rebuildbohol.com/ or directly thru http://www.paypal.com/ sent to the address donate@rebuildbohol.com

Look at their Facebook page for photos of local citizens who are suffering from the damage and continuing updates on the relief effort...
