Governor Dannel Malloy does not understand a law pertaining to large capacity magazines that he demanded, promoted and signed, Connecticut Citizens Defense League documented yesterday following statements the governor made on a local radio program.
Malloys legal response to a caller on Milfords Chaz & AJ in the Morning show was dangerously off-base, CCDL charged. Asked if it would be legal to carry two 14-round magazines limited to 10 rounds in each one, the governors advice could subject anyone heeding it to prosecution.
First of all what you have to do is disclose, Malloy told the caller. Theres a way to disclose that you have them and youre grandfathered in. So, thats how our law works in Connecticut. You dont lose the right to have them; you just have to say that you have them.
Hey, Im Joe. Ive got two of these, and thats it, Malloy continued. So the limitations that youre fearing arent necessarily in our bill. They are -- I think youre referring to New Yorks law, quite frankly, and New York has a different set of laws than we do.
The Governor is mistaken, CCDL warned. The law he signed back in April does indeed prevent someone from carrying a so-called large capacity magazine even if it is properly declared, and absolutely limits the number of bullets to 10.
Connecticuts law requiring a magazine be within the firearm limit[s] the number of declared large capacity magazines one is able to carry, along with the number of bullets it can contain CCDL explained For the governors statement to be true you would need to carry multiple guns or find a gun [that] holds two or more magazines.

He had to sign it to know what’s in it. The process might take some years after it’s passed.
Sounds to me like the CCDL doesn’t understand the difference between a bullet and a cartridge/round. They need a better spokesperson.
Awwwww! Aren't you just special.
BTW, CCDL has been fighting like mad against this. Your post is petty compared to what they've done.
I fully appreciate what the CCDL is doing. Just saying that if you are going to castigate someone for not understanding the law and using improper terminology, then the “spokesperson” for the CCDL should make sure they don’t violate the same principle. It doesn’t help their cause.
No matter.
Congress signs endless firearms laws they don’t understand, and our benighted electorate keeps right on sending ‘em back to office.

Magazine capacity becomes meaningless (within reason) when you learn how to reload with a spare magazine, which is a must if you have a semi-automatic weapon.
