Cruz: 'Bold Colors,' Not 'Pale Pastels' Key to Winning in 2014

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said Republicans have a chance to take back the majority in the Senate in 2014 only if the party boldly differentiates itself from Democrats.

“I think 2014 can and should be a very good Republican year and I think if Republicans stand for principle, we’re going to win in 2014," Cruz said in an interview with David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network.

Cruz argued that the 2006, 2008, and 2012 election cycles were "disastrous for Republicans," because in "all three of those cycles Republicans followed the philosophy of keep your head down, don’t rock the boat, don’t stand for anything, don’t take any risks and we’ll just somehow magically win at the polls."

Cruz contrasted those election cycles with 2010, where "Republicans stood strong for principle, we stood against Obamacare, we stood with the American people and we won a tidal wave election."

"Now what do all of the voices of Washington say now? ‘We need to return to the pattern of ’06,’08, and ’12. We need to return to not standing for anything, not risking anything, not rocking the boat,'" Cruz said. "That is a path to losing. The way you win elections is you paint in bold colors not in pale pastels. You stand strong for the American people just like Ronald Reagan did."

Cruz said "that’s the path to victory" and emphasized that "if Republicans do that I think in 2014 Republicans can and should take a majority of the U.S. Senate."

"But if we don’t stand for principle we’re not going to win in November," Cruz said.

"If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures." - Alexander Hamilton

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

We are so blessed to have somebody like him on our side. He has given me faith that maybe, we will actually save our nation. If we do, he surpasses all who preceded him.

You stand strong for the American people just like Ronald Reagan did.

And don't forget Newt's Contract With America.

“Sen. Ted Cruz met with roughly 15 to 20 House Republicans for roughly two hours late Monday night at the Capitol Hill watering hole Tortilla Coast.

The group appeared to be talking strategy about how they should respond to a tentative Senate deal to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling without addressing Obamacare in a substantive way, according to sources who witnessed the gathering. The Texas Republican senator and many of House Republicans in attendance had insisted on including amendments aimed at dismantling Obamacare in the continuing resolution that was intended to avert the current shutdown.

Sources said the House Republicans meeting in the basement of Tortilla Coast with Cruz were some of the most conservative in the House: Reps. Louie Gohmert of Texas, Steve King of Iowa, Jim Jordan of Ohio, Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Raúl Labrador of Idaho, Steve Southerland of Florida, Mark Meadows of North Carolina, and Justin Amash of Michigan.

The group is a collection of members who have often given leadership headaches in recent years by opposing both compromise measures as well as packages crafted by fellow Republicans. And, it seems, leadership unwittingly became aware of the meetup.

While the dinner meeting was held in a private basement room, the group was spotted by Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., who was dining with some other members, including Gregg Harper, R-Miss. McCarthy is a regular at the Capitol Hill watering hole, and a source said he seemed particularly interested in what the group was up to.”

Mr. Cruz is a Harvard debate champion and, as the libs are finding out, very difficult to rattle. Ever hear Hillary as she gets excited while speaking? Her voice gets more and more shrill. You won't hear that from Mr. Cruz. If those two are running against each other in 2016, the contrast will be striking.

Ted Cruz is a once-in-a-generation kind of conservative. Completely unafraid. Thanks as always for the ping.

The GOP agreeing to a union obamacare exemption will be the parties obituary. It boggles the mind that leadership would agree to that. Total beltway fever insanity.

I seem to be missing Cruz’s message, no doubt because the media doesn’t want to convey it, but what does Cruz want in order to back off and vote to raise the debt limit? Is defunding Obama care the only issue in play, or does he feel like that’s not enough?

In any event, I’ve not heard him spell out that he would rather the US face default rather than fund Obamacare. I would guess this is his position, but I’m not sure.

“Stand for principles”

You know that’s going to irritate the RNC and assorted RINOs in Congress. Can’t have that, you know. The media will find us objectionable.
