Corker [R-TN] warns against 'spiking the football' - "embarrassed" by conservative's rabbit trail
The Hill ^ | October 15, 2013 | Mario Trujillo

Posted on 10/15/2013 7:40:14 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) on Tuesday cautioned against “spiking the football” on a budget deal, predicting a long slog ahead to convince the GOP conference to go along with any plan.

He expressed embarrassment at members of his own party who waged a fight to delay or defund ObamaCare — saying it was doomed to failure from the beginning.

“To be candid, it is an embarrassment that we have spent all this time on a rabbit trail leading us to where we are,” he said. “Look, I may not be the best person to be interviewed this morning. We have a lot of work to do over the next three or four hours. There is a lot of tough sledding left.”

Democrats and some Republicans have been highly critical of a segment of the GOP — led by Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Mike Lee (Utah) — who pushed to defund or delay ObamaCare as a part of a deal to fund the government.

Three weeks into a government shutdown, a deal to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling until early next year has rolled into a larger plan that would call for small ObamaCare changes and the formation of a conference committee to replace sequestration cuts.

The Senate GOP will meet later Tuesday to discuss the plan.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) — who had worked on a bipartisan budget deal — said she is more optimistic now that “the adults have taken over.”

“Not to criticize anyone, but the adults have taken over and people who know that we need to get this country back working again,” she said on CNN.

In a joint interview with Corker, Heitkamp commended GOP leadership and Corker as Republicans who “speaks to people in the entire Senate,” not just those in the GOP.

“I know he is a little crabby this morning because he’s got a big lift ahead of him in talking with his caucus,” Heitkamp said of Corker.

“Sen. Ted Cruz met with roughly 15 to 20 House Republicans for roughly two hours late Monday night at the Capitol Hill watering hole Tortilla Coast.

The group appeared to be talking strategy about how they should respond to a tentative Senate deal to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling without addressing Obamacare in a substantive way, according to sources who witnessed the gathering. The Texas Republican senator and many of House Republicans in attendance had insisted on including amendments aimed at dismantling Obamacare in the continuing resolution that was intended to avert the current shutdown.

Sources said the House Republicans meeting in the basement of Tortilla Coast with Cruz were some of the most conservative in the House: Reps. Louie Gohmert of Texas, Steve King of Iowa, Jim Jordan of Ohio, Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Raúl Labrador of Idaho, Steve Southerland of Florida, Mark Meadows of North Carolina, and Justin Amash of Michigan.

The group is a collection of members who have often given leadership headaches in recent years by opposing both compromise measures as well as packages crafted by fellow Republicans. And, it seems, leadership unwittingly became aware of the meetup.

While the dinner meeting was held in a private basement room, the group was spotted by Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., who was dining with some other members, including Gregg Harper, R-Miss. McCarthy is a regular at the Capitol Hill watering hole, and a source said he seemed particularly interested in what the group was up to.”

There's something childishly sophmoric about this. Anxiously watching others while at your favority watering hole and wondering what they're saying. Petty life in a petty town.

He [Sen. Bob Corker (R?????-Tenn.)] expressed embarrassment at members of his own party who waged a fight to delay or defund ObamaCare — saying it was doomed to failure from the beginning.

"If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Winston Churchill

But then Corker would rather have "Peace for our time" in the Senate.

Obamacare is proving to be an unmitigated disaster and this idiot is “embarrassed” by efforts by conservatives to defund it? Would it be too hard to say something like this:

“Obamacare is a disaster for America and we support efforts to defund and suspend the implementation of this horribly destructive law.”

>>> He expressed embarrassment at members of his own party who waged a fight to delay or defund ObamaCare — saying it was doomed to failure from the beginning.

So, Sen. Corker is embarrassed by the conservative base, who sent those ‘embarrassment’ to Congress specifically to repeal and defund Obamacare and put some fiscal common sense back to our ruling class.

The ABOVE sentence expose the brilliant GOP strategy all along - they are not going to do anything to Obamacare. They SAID they would do this they would do that, but it was all “JUST WAIT AND LET OBAMACARE IMPLODE” grand strategy.

This short term deal brokered in the Senate, does absolute nothing!!!!! GOP surrendered to buy time to ‘tweak’ Obamacare. Sorry, it won’t fly. We (at least, I) don’t want a ‘tweaked’ Obamacare.

At this point I would want at the minimum from the House:

1. Never, ever give up the Sequester.

2. Make every government employee subject to Obamacare. No exceptions. No Executive Orders. No IRS interpretation. No nothing. Make Obama buy Obamacare.

3. Make Obama follow the law - No Subsidies for Federal Obamacare enrollment. Subsidies for state run Exchanges only. No IRS waiver of this part of the law.

4. And never give in until we get 1, 2 and 3.

Precisely.

MOST Americans DON’T want this. FURTHER, Obama is DELIBERATELY trying to destroy the nation’s healthcare system along with our foreign policy standing and economic stability.

He is following an Alyenskite/Marxist model to convert a capitalist state to a Marxist one.

I can’t believe a guy like the Corker or the other RINOs don’t see this and don’t care.

Barack Hussein Obama needs to be impeached at any cost. His drive to communize America needs to be stopped. He needs to be opposed in anything and everything he tries to accomplish.

GOP representatives who don’t “get” it need to be voted out of office and replaced by conservative Republicans or even by thrid party libertarians.

Obama was never going to defund Obamcare. He had the media. The public doesn’t like Obamcare but hates shutdowns. Now even Cruz admits Obamcare won’t be refunded. If you want to get rid of Obamcare win the senate. Which before the shutdown was likely. Trounce the entirely beatable Hillary and win election. Since we’ve already surrendered on Defunding Obamcare...look for a complete surrender. So shutting diwn the government was a good idea? Really?

If there is a deal and a delay in Obamacare is part of it, then every republican should get on their hands and knees and pray that Sarah Palin doesn’t hold a grudge.

Because she will be visiting during primary season and you can bet your bottom dollar Ted Cruz and Mike Lee will be leading the charge.

All the more reason for the recall effort. Corker lied to his constituency. It’s like the poor dumb woman/man who marries someone who lied about something very essential. For example: I will be deported if you don’t marry me, darling love of my life. Then after the marriage takes place: I never really loved you. You are very unattractive and I can’t stand the sight of you. Now, what are you going to do about it??? Annulment!!!

NRO: “Even as the White House quickly rejected it based on leaked details, House conservatives are calling a proposal unveiled by Speaker John Boehner at this morning’s conference meeting a “working document” and saying they expect several additions to enhance the leadership’s bid.

“That was a framework from which to build from,” says Representative Tom Graves of Georgia, one of the leading architects of the push to defund Obamacare in the House.

“We gave a bunch of different options” in the meeting, says Representative Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina, referring to conservatives, “the bill probably will end up being tweaked a little bit before it gets to rules.”

Members described a vigorous, “family discussion” in the meeting, which went one hour beyond its scheduled time. Representative Joe Barton, who has previously complained about proposals to end a special Obamacare subsidy for Congress, demanded “anyone who wasn’t elected” leave the room, referring to staff.”

If Bob Corker was a Marine in a firefight, he would have already been shot for cowardice while running from the enemy and encouraging his shipmates to desert. Of course, a wuss like Corker would never have the courage to enlist in the Corps to begin with, let alone to make it through boot camp.

When the Republic survives this suicide attempt, if it survives, Vichy whores and collaborators like Bob Corker will have their heads shaved and will be paraded through the streets in shame. Vichy Republicans are betting that their Socialist "good friends" will win, and that they'll share the spoils after we're sent off to the camps.
