Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said Tuesday that the Tea Party has stuck a knife in the backs of working-class families by shutting down the government and threatening default.
“There was so much economic hurt that had already piled up … people just didn’t have any wiggle room, when the Tea Party decided to stick a knife into the backs of hard-working American families,” Murphy said on the Senate floor.
The government has been shutdown for more than two weeks, and lawmakers are also fighting an Oct. 17 deadline for when the U.S. can no longer borrow money. Murphy said this was a “big deal” because the U.S. is still recovering from the 2008 recession.
Republicans have demanded concessions from Democrats on ObamaCare and sequestration spending levels. Democrats have agreed to short-term solution with sequester-levels, but have not given into demands that delay or repeal parts of ObamaCare.
“We’re here because Tea Party Republicans in the House see this misery as a bargaining chip,” Murphy said.
Senate leaders have negotiated a deal that would end the shutdown, fund the government through Jan. 15 and raise the debt ceiling until February. But House Republicans met Tuesday morning to discuss the deal and announced it would make modifications. Democrats quickly rejected the House plan.

I’ve asked several people how the shutdown has afffected them.
The only ones who even knew about it couldn’t come up with a single thing that has changed in their life.

Makes no difference the filled-in name or the topic of the smear, it's mandatory to maintain the campaign of destroying conservative leaders and the Tea Party folks through mud slinging.
Unfortunately, these tactics work quite well for the 'Rats, which is why they keep it up with such a steady drumbeat.

The middle class, such a marxist term, pretty much pays for everything in this country. We are taking the knives out of their backs. Knives put there by mostly democrat progressives since Teddy Roosevelt’s day. And if we had a modicum of leadership we would bury those same knives right in the chest of the dims. Up to the hilt!
