New poll shows same numbers for senate race (WV trending R !!!)

It's a new poll, but the numbers are much the same.

An automated telephone survey conducted last month found 51 percent of potential West Virginia voters would pick Rep. Shelley Moore Capito over Secretary of State Natalie Tennant in the race for retiring U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller's seat.

The poll found 34 percent of potential voters would support Tennant, while 15 percent are not sure who would get their vote.

Pennsylvania-based Republican polling firm Harper Polling conducted the survey, which included 640 likely voters. The poll has a 3.9 percent margin of error.

In a question directed only to potential Republican primary voters, results show Capito would handily defeat fellow GOP candidate Pat McGeehan with 70 percent of the vote.

Nearly half of all respondents, Democrats and Republicans, said they would vote for a Republican in the race for U.S. Senate. Thirty-six percent said they would vote for a Democrat, 4 percent said they would vote for "someone else," while 12 percent were not sure.

We are going to win a Senate seat in WV finally. We have a real chance also of picking off Nick Rahall which would leave only one Senate seat in Joe Manchin left at the federal level in control of Democrats. Then I expect the state to slowly but surely shift at a local level into the Republican column.

West Virginia has been going more Republican as time goes on.

A minor upset in the 2000 election was when Bush carried West Virginia. That state had been reliably Democrat in presidential elections. Now it’s very red. Too bad it only has a handful of electoral votes.

The UMW told them to vote for economic suicide, when it ordered them to vote Obama. They even went on a One-Day strike for Obama in 2008.

Now that economic suicide has arrived, they want to switch sides?

How likely are we to get rid of Rahall? When was he seated? Isn’t he one of those rat zits that’s impossible to pop, like John Barrow and Jim Matheson?

I’ll make two points

A) We are likely to get this seat, but dont’ get too excited. Capito is not a conservative
B) Don’t get too cocky. Remember Rick Berg was creaming the opposition in North Dakota before going down in flames. Similar moderate squishy Republican.

Capito is conservative enough and once the seat goes red it won’t go back for a long time. This is one time I’m not going to be a purist unless some stellar alternative arises and there isn’t any. WV is a conservative state.

Rahall’s margin of win continues to shrink with each election cycle. I think this next one has the potential to be the one that finally does him in. He won by 8 points in 2012 against a political neophyte in contrast in 2008 he won by 34 points. So the race is going to be highly competitive and deserves huge focus not just locally but from national GOP who notoriously fail to understand how to win in WV which is though being personable and shaking hands and having cookout events etc and making people feel you care about them and their plight. That of course would help the GOP throughout America but they seem to love the stick up the butt stiff upper lip approach.

I too would vote for Capito in the general if I was there (mainly because I think Tennant is a lurker who might pull a Manchin). However SCF has refused to back her, and it does seem like kind of a waste, what with the seat being essentially a lock.
Oh well. I guess I can settle for it if we get a Tea Partier in North Carolina and perhaps Louisiana, and we replace RINOS like Gayham, McConnell and Alexander.

Any potential challengers for Rahall yet? Id’ like to increase our House majority, if only by a few.

As I've said since my first week on FR, my West Virginia neighbors are pro-coal, pro-guns, pro-God, pro-life, and pro-military.

They are also pro-union, pro-trial lawyer, pro-disability fraud, and pro-every morsel of free government cheese they can get their jaws around.

Living in West Virginia is what has convinced me that many self-described social conservatives don't hesitate to sidle into that voting booth and mark the box for the pro-abortion, gay rights candidate who promises to keep the government sugar tit nice and juicy.

There was no upset. Gore never had a chance. He was DOA here because of gun control. Heston wasted his time touring the state.

Capito is not a conservative

Capito is not a Rand Paul or Ted Cruz, but she is also a long way from being a McQueeg or a Collins. I have no qualms about voting for her.

We have potentially two. One is a conservative Democrat who recently switched to the GOP over the summer. That is something we can begin to see more of in the state as the red writing is more on the wall. I’ll be surprised if Joe Manchin holds out as a Democrat much longer. He would’ve been gone if he’d had a more down home personable opponent. Raese who I’ve met just isn’t that kind of guy. He’s a good man but just fails the warm fuzzy test.

Shelley Capito has 51% of the vote. Even if the challenger gets EVERY undecided vote in the next year, Shelley still wins !!!

I like the way West Virginia is trending of late. They tend to elect dems to the Senate (up to now, anyway) and the Governor’s seat, but they are socially conservative and as a whole despise Obama and what he’s doing to this country.

Would that East Virginia had the same level of consciousness.

The one small hope for America is getting control of the US Senate and retaining the House, so they can pass bills to shut down Obama. Plus, they MUST come up with a means to stop his executive orders landslide that overrules the Constitution. I still have in the back of my cluttered mind that he will do something, something evil, to stay in office. I believe some way he is going to declare martial law to keep a Republican controlled Congress from stopping his agenda. Just cannot get that out of the back of my mind.
