Obama to push immigration reform 'day after' budget deal
The Hill ^ | 10/15/13 | Justin Sink

President Obama vowed Tuesday that he would pursue an immigration reform vote in the House the "day after" Congress reached an agreement to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling.

"Once that’s done, you know, the day after -- I’m going to be pushing to say, call a vote on immigration reform," Obama told Univision's Los Angeles affiliate. "And if I have to join with other advocates and continue to speak out on that, and keep pushing, I’m going to do so because I think it’s really important for the country. And now is the time to do it."

Rand Paul’s immigration speech

...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

[but he’s not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]

It’s up to Republicans to just say no. It’s up to us to encourage them to do just that. Ryan et al seem to be in a hurry to jump right in to this mess.

The Dems kept saying Obamacare is the law of the land.
We have immigration law on the books and it is the law of the land.

It wouldn’t matter. Even with just the illegals already here, the liberals would have us checkmated at the federal level.

They need to stop it in committee. Vote down Gowdy’s enforcement bill.

The only good that can come from it is Harry Reid and Obama saying Gowdy’s bill will cause racial profiling. Then Gowdy has to justify why he wants to pass amnesty lite and risk a conference.

Sounds like a plan, to me.

For some reason, Repubs seems hell-bent on passing immigration reform. They are paying attention to big business, aka big money, who want more cheap labor at the taxpayers’ expense (entitlements) and their stupid, stupid consultant buddies.

Republicans have been saying for months they are listening to the people on defunding Obamacare (at least until the soft debt deadline) and Syria. Now they want to turn around and ignore them.

Gowdy, Goodlatte and Lynn Jenkins are members to call. They seem like the only ones who are deluded.

Adelson, Cantor and Boehner weakened themselves by supporting Obama on Syria. They can’t whip the caucus.

Thanks for the info on the rep’s to contact. Ryan seems to be leading the way on the “immigration” plan, so would be another one to contact.

It is a waste of time calling Ryan except to annoy his staffers and the inconvenience he has caused them. Maybe be better to inconvenience Rep Aaron Schock’s staffers.

Gowdy and Labrador seem pessimistic about passing amnesty lite.

Ryan and Cantor are a waste of time.

Even in Blake Farenthold’s district It is probably 60 or 70% of voters who turn out will be adult whites. There is a lot of illegals and hispanics too young to vote in his district. His district is half hispanic. Only 20% of ballots cast in Texas are by hispanics. You’d have to look at the district with a microscope to work out what the exact turnout would be. You think a guy with Blake Farenthold’s appearance and birtherism would not be worried about whether the media would attack him or whether La Raza thinks he is mean.

This is a La Raza site with 25 members.

The number and names in that link is disturbing. Daryl Issa has become quite the disappointment lately.
