Was the party on school property?
Was the party a school sponsored event?
Was the party during school hours?
Did the party have anything what so ever to do with the school?
Did the parents sign some kind of contract with the school, forbidding the student from this?

If no to all of these thing, sue the pants off the school.

If yes that it was a school sponsored event, sue the pants off the school and personally sue the principal, vice principal, dean of students, school superintendent, district superintendent and entire school board.

I’d add one more to that list: Being 17, does Erin have a ‘Cinderella license’, and did she drive after legal hours? Unfortunately, the school could potentially use that against her if that’s the case.
