After claiming his innocence for over two decades, William Happ finally confessed to murder as he was put to death by lethal injection in the US state of Florida.

News reports said Happ took over 15 minutes to die, as his body repeatedly made convulsive movements, as the state corrections system used a new lethal chemical for the first time.

Happ, 51, had spent 24 years on death row for the murder of a young woman named Angela Crowley in 1986.

Happ, who had drug and alcohol problems, met Crowley in a parking lot. The woman was strangled and raped, and her body found in a canal.

I hope it was painfully terrifying until his last breath.

took over 15 minutes to die...

While I have no sympathy for this POS, can't they just reinstate the gallows and make it quick?

Isn't capital punishment often times called “cruel and unusual”?

It should be like a guillotine, fast.

what’s with the time it takes for someone getting lethal injection to die.

cyanide capsules seem to have worked almost instantly against the Nazis who killed themselves during capture.

give these creeps and double OD dose of heroin and cyanide cocktail to boot. should not take long.

of course if it was up to me, I would just hang or fry or shoot the scum.

“After claiming his innocence for over two decades....”

I wonder if “The Innocence Project” tried, unsuccessfully, to get him freed?

Surely some law student somewhere spent countless hours listening to him profess his innocence, researching his case, filing briefs and appeals, etc.

After all, there might have been a footprint that wasn’t Happ’s footprint somewhere in the area. By that logic the Project has freed many, and likely including many that were in truth guilty.

I would prefer we reinstitute gladiatorial games for death row inmates who volunteer for the games. The money raised would go to paying for their lawyers and housing expenses. They could show the matches an PPV.

"of course if it was up to me..."

If it was up to me I would bind and gag the asswipe and shove him in a small room with the victim's family who would be armed with sharp sticks.

Thank Zippy/Holder for taking away the old one.

“As stocks of the usual lethal injection drug dwindle, most US states that carry out executions are turning to new drugs. This is sparking lawsuits from death row prisoners that the changes will cause undue suffering.”

Maybe we should change the laws to not only include a speedy trial (Unless you are the Fort Hood Terrorist) and a speedy punishment. 20 years?

Every community should have its own gallows, and every year or two they should test it with one of their politicians.

I agree with your statement. The snap-the-neck style of hanging is quicker than what he went through. Also having someone wait for decades before execution is cruel and unusual.

I recall reading several years ago about a Chinese execution. While the defendant was listening to the verdict, there was a guard sitting behind him with a pistol at he base of his neck. As soon as the judge sentenced him to death, the guard pulled the trigger. The defendant never knew what happened which eliminates all cruelty.

Bet Holder and obama would love to get this type of justice going for their political enemies.

The idea of executions being “cruel and unusual punishment” is silly but it gets sillier when you think that the anti-DP crowd is trying to ban the items used for lethal injections and the states are countering with unproven formulas that may take longer or cause more pain before death. Then the anti-DP folks will crow that it was “cruel and unusual”.

Well, it would still be quick and sudden if we could go back to firing squads. That’s actually a damn humane way to go if you think about it. Boom. Done. Over. Elapsed time: under one minute. And there are ways now to make it so nobody is sure which shooter had the real bullet.
