Senate leaders reached agreement Wednesday to avert a threatened Treasury default and reopen the government after a partial, 16-day shutdown, according to a Republican senator who also said the House might vote first on the plan to speed its approval.

The New York Stock Exchange soared on the news that the threat of default was easing in, rising nearly 200 points by late morning.

"I understand they've come to an agreement but I'm going to let the leader announce that," Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H........

As if anyone ever thought they wouldn't come to a "deal"... What a dog and pony show.

And nice job Kelly. I'm not going to announce anything, but we have a deal. ... Ooops, did I just say that??

There is no danger of default. More than enough money comes in to make payments. It a boogey-man issue.

Deal to avoid default in place

Haven't we heard that before? Deja Vu?

If true, Boehner bent over and became another one of Bathhouse Barry's "boys", and the American taxpayers did as well. Reggie Love is green with jealousy!

Show me a bill number in either chamber. I haven't found one.

There has to be a vote on something before they can cave.

There can be no default unless Obama chooses to do so. And if he did, it would be an impeachable offense.

But that emerging Senate pact was put on hold Tuesday, an extraordinary day that highlighted how unruly rank-and-file House Republicans can be, even when the stakes are high.

Great unbiased reporting AP.

It doesn't work like that. They do have to follow their own rules to make it look legitimate.

Like anything else, “O” will make the announcement ( it there is one ) at a time and in a way that is the MOST benefit to HIM...

You thought it would be different?

Ayotte should be a one term senator. She has the IQ of an amoeba!

there never was a RISK OF DEFAULT. the media has been lying just trying to get the Republicans to cave

the media and Obama have been lying about that not raising the debt limit will result in default

there is NO RISK OF DEFAULT.

keep the gov shut down and do NOT raise the debt ceiling. call R’s tell them to hold the line

the media has been lying saying Armageddon will happen Oct 17 if the debt limit is not raised. that is a big lie. the media lied. Obama lied. Reid lied.

we have to call and email Republicans and tell them not to believe the media lies. what is the capital switchboard or their emails or phone numbers?

Correct. My problem with that is they’ve shown a willingness to change the rules as they go along, and that is what I’m looking for in this little game they’re playing with our freedom.

We must not give up, or roll over. Boehner needs to be made to understand that if he screws the Tea Party, he’s out of the Speaker’s job.

As the rules stand now, a bill has to be submitted, go through the rules committee, and in the Senate, get either unanimous consent or cloture. We're a long procedural process away from there being a bill for anyone to cave on.

There will be plenty of time for whining when something actually happens, but a lot can happen in the meantime.

Thank you. There is not now nor has there ever been any chance the US would default on its debt.

I had high hopes for Ayotte after Gov Palin endorsed her. Clearly she has gone over to the wrong (dark) side, becoming the 3rd of the let’s get along trio with McLame and Gramnesty. I’m very disappointed in her.

Bills can be brought directly to the floor, where the Rules Committee can be bypassed with a 2/3 vote of the Committee of the Whole (all of the House). That’s the key vote that needs to be targeted.

At least one bill went that route a couple of weeks ago to reopen the parks, but it did not pass the required 2/3 vote. Eventually it did pass, IIRC, but it had to go through the process you described. If the Rats vote en mass to pass this, will they get enough GOPe to pass the 2/3 mark? We’ll see.

She (Ayotte) has the IQ of an amoeba

An insult to amoebas everywhere.

When we list traitors to campaign promises, this woman is the worst. She seems to have no compass whatsover as to values.
