Senator: Deal to avoid default and open government

Senate leaders reached agreement Wednesday to avert a threatened Treasury default and reopen the government after a partial, 16-day shutdown, according to a Republican senator who also said the House might vote first on the plan to speed its approval.

The New York Stock Exchange soared on the news that the threat of default was easing in, rising nearly 200 points by late morning.

"I understand they've come to an agreement but I'm going to let the leader announce that," Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H........

I hope we don’t bite the bait. Focus needs to continue to be the epic failures of Obamacare. He doesn’t have the votes to pass amnesty right now I don’t think. It is just a shell game.

Don't know Pen....He didn't have the votes before, but if Obama gets respite today, he will have new momentum and be on the road tomorrow with amnesty and continue the harangue of blaming Repubs. If his media campaign shifts the polls, GOP will cave....again...

It is an establishment dictatorship, but you are right that the media (including Fox) plays a crucial role. But what makes their job so easy are the establishment Republicans. If the Republicans behaved like a real opposition party, they could do a more effective job countering the spin (especially since so much of it is blatantly false).

Establishment Republicans are the real, underlying problem. Opposing them at every turn (even if it means fewer "R"s and more "D"s) is a pre-requisite for any meaningful opposition to the transformation of America.

The big secret of the cosmos is that the author of evil is smaller than the author of goodness. If we collapse everytime there is a trial (because of our lack of faith in this fundamental fact) then we get nowhere. Quite true, Obama is probably going to brag on his usual vapid nothing, and we have to steel ourselves as best as possible for it. But an iterative process is going on here and when the good dares to make a move, it will make progress in the big picture.
