mccain sounds borderline senile to me with all his verbal stumbling, making it difficult for me to take anything he says seriously since it is not clear to me that he is actually precise in his speech, so sorry i tuned it out...

Senator: Deal to avoid default and open government

Liars lying.

The government is 83% open.

There are enough tax receipts to pay the debt and avoid a default even without a deal.

Sooner or later they’ll shove Soviet Union style health care on us and then legalize tens of millions of illegal aliens....

And continue to leave the borders wide open.

It’s far too late to fix this gargantuan corrupt government traditional means.

"Of all the damage to be done politically here, one of the greatest concerns I have is that somehow John Boehner gets compromised," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., a former House member and a Boehner supporter.

Yeah, some supporter. Linda Grahamnesty, jock strap.

I would opine too comfortable. Our gastanks are full. Our stomachs are full. we have all the entrainment we can absorb. there are plenty of sex and drugs and the masters will ensure that the slaves continue their labor to provide these to the peasants. If you want to get a mental picture of how things actually are, get a mental picture of animals being fattened to butcher. they are kept calm and well fed in a small enclosure to prevent them from running any fat off. Until slaughter day. That is us as a nation.

it sounds like they are just all indulging in self congratulations, my guess would be for the sake of the media.

they are downplaying specifics so it is really unsettling to listening to all this.

“....plan developed by 14 senators to avoid default”....

Well that’s what McCain referenced when he spoke a few moments ago...he mentioned “His 7 collegues” then backtracked and stumbled all over his mouth!.......so that would be 7 Senators and 7 republicans worked what we’re going to see.

Great....more selective people running this show as usual!

There’s more than one way to be rid of mediocrity (or, and this is actually preferable, force it to improve).

There is no force that would turn establishment Republicans into members of an effective opposition. Sometimes, the only way to improve a team is to get rid of mediocrity, accept short term losses, and build again. The Republican party will never be improved while hanging onto empty "R" seats. If they haven't done so in the last 5 years, they never will. That was Boswell's point, and that is even more true here.

Establishment Republicans won't change, and are incompatible with effective opposition. They have to go, even at the expense of (a misleading) R/D split in the senate and the house. I would be much more willing to have faith in the tooth fairy than I would to have faith in the capacity of the McCains of the world to change for the better.

A lot of people see that. You know how you stop that? Win elections. Until this fiasco we had a better then 50% chance on winning senate keeping house ....And that old hag Hillary is entirely beatable. To add to it all Obamacare was DOA with it’s disaster roll out so once again why is this a good strategy?

Obamacare is not DOA. Millions are being assaulted by it’s massive premium increases today. You are great at criticizing conservatives who stood and fought obamacare.

But what is your plan? Is it the McConnell preemptive surrender plan? The Boehner surrender now and I promise we’ll really fight next time plan?

The fact is the rubber stamp 99% of what the Dems want and tip toe plan is a LOSER? We tried that in 2012. It doesn’t work. Stop advocating it.

Under the agreement, the government would be funded through Jan. 15, and the debt ceiling would be raised until Feb. 7.

Not a chance. I only bet on sure things, and the future of the Tea Party is in the air. Of course Boehner is safe in his seat, I never questioned that. I think he has a good chance of being thrown out of the Speakership, but I'd never make book on it.

When some people on this board believe that we’d be better off with Nancy Pelosi as speaker . There’s really nothing left to debate. I’m not going to question your patriotism just your sanity.

If you think we can ever be an effective opposition party with people like Boehner, McCain, McConnell, etc. occupying important positions, I would question yours. I am not saying that Pelosi as speaker would be a good thing. It would be awful. The difference is that valid, meaningful, and successful opposition would at least be possible in that scenario. Now, it is not.

I have come to the similar conclusion that we might actually be better off with Pelosi as speaker (with the one, huge, caveat that this would only be true if the establishment Republicans were defeated, either in the primaries or the general).

Once upon a time a people called Republicans held great power.
From battles fought by Patriots they gained possession of the White House, The Senate, and The House.
Republicans had fooled the Patriots into believing that they would stand for, and protect their rights.

Today the Republicans no longer have The White House, or the Senate, and are working very hard at spitting in the face of the Patriots that fought the battles to give them control of the House.

Soon they will be prehistoric...an archeological discovery on a dig.

All hail nancy?

He doesn’t have the votes to pass amnesty right now I don’t think. It is just a shell game.

Huh? Are you serious? Just watch, within weeks Boehner will ram fill amnesty down our throats.

Beohner and the rest of the GOPe have true hatred of Conservatives.

Boehner believes that granting amnesty will garner votes from grateful illegals -- he is dead wrong.

Boehner is purposely destroying our Republic -- he is no less evil than Obama and other Statists.

Perfect wordage...May I use that as a tag please? I’ve never had one but this so suites how I see where the real “problem” rests....it’s up to the people to change this equation.

There’s little we can do but vote to get these people out...and like tentacles wrapped around our country they are not going to let loose without tightening their hold...just as we saw in this whole fiasco.

“Boehner believes that granting amnesty will garner votes from grateful illegals — he is dead wrong.”

The problem is you’re 30 years out of date. You’re 100% correct — 30 years ago. 100% correct.

But it’s 30 years later. It’s not the illegals becoming citizens that are turning Colorado from Red to Blue and starting to do Arizona, too.

It’s children of illegals born in the US, fully US citizens and now 30 year old voters, whose numbers have grown to define Colorado and Arizona. There might be proposals to stop “anchor babies” from being US citizens, but there are no proposals even from the most conservative of conservatives to remove citizenship from 30 year olds.

We’re screwed. There is no fix for it.

Not that it really matters right now, but I don't believe they will go for single payer. I think they will go for single provider, with forced compliance. The difference is that the "premiums" will be absurdly expensive, and the political class (R and D alike) will use exemptions and deductions to control the populace.

This would be even more evil than single payer, so I believe that is the eventual goal of Obama, McCain, etc.

so the media has you a freeper believing that borrowing trillions of dollars more is good for the economy and for markets.

you all see the power of the evil media now?

nothing could be further from the truth. not raising the debt limit would be good for the markets long term as our debt would not skyrocket then

I guess if the media tells you to cure your headache by drilling a hole in your head with an ice pick you’ll believe that too cause it’s on TV?

Shaheen now mentioning what is apparently a joint ongoing senate-house budget committee meeting.

hoping that both houses will approve the current senate bill being voted on today.

why is the senate not just voting on the bill instead of talking about it???????????

* the committee of 14 is for it

* reid and mcconnell are apparently for it

* cruz will apparently not block it

i am not even hearing specifics, from senator after senator

-> the senators are stalling and filibustering until the end of the day so that the house will have no time to consider or debate the bill

IMHO this is a giant time squeeze play by the R and D senators against the Republican led House

now sen Bernie Sanders (I?-VT) addressing the Senate, dissing the Republicans in the House,

IMHO probably saying what the other senators (R and D) are thinking but not saying... loose cannon socialist a$$hole senator...

wth is someone like Sanders (born in brooklyn) doing representing Vt? This guy is now going off like a classic liberal about the decline of standard of living, does not seem to recognize that liberal tax and spending is the problem, not the solution. when eyes are closed, sounds like just another tax and spend liberal nyc politician...

Sounds like they’re going to punch out the debt limit just under another trillion$ to make this deal. Anything to keep spending down? Why it would be just terrible if the debt ceiling broke 18 trillion$-——so much better to keep it under that. Just sounds great don’t it? And I don’t want to hear sniveling about how easy it is for us to pay the interest. Interest rates on federal debt have essentially been ZERO and that is not going to last much longer. pure dumbassness-—I don’t want to waste any more words.
