When a liberal reporter asked Steve Lonegan if “Sarah Palin was too far-right for New Jersey,” Lonegan did what Republican candidates for Senate have not done in recent memory: He went on offense.
“I don’t think it’s far right to support small business owners and to support taxpayers who are struggling,” he shot back. “Sarah Palin is a wonderful mother. She was also a wonderful governor and an excellent role model for women.”
That’s not how Republicans coming out of the Northeast typically respond when they encounter a hostile reporter. And if you ask Amy Kremer, chair of the Tea Party Express, she will tell you that Lonegan’s blunt, rhetorical style is also out of place in Washington, D.C., where the party establishment appears set to cave in the fight over funding for Obamacare.
“We thought we could push the party to the right,” she said, addressing thousands of Lonegan supporters gathered at the New Egypt Speedway in Ocean County, New Jersey on Saturday...

The operative word “almost” is why Diane Bagley Robb, a Hamilton resident, wants to know why Karl Rove and his organization American Crossroads have gone missing in New Jersey.
“The party establishment thinks you have to be RINO, and you have to be moderate to win,” she said. “But I know a lot of moderate Republicans who have lost in this state and in other parts of the country. But now we have a genuine conservative so where is the rest of the party?”

That’s my point. It doesn’t seem that close but maybe it will turn out different that the polls have shown.
It’s just sad that articles have to note how unusual it is for republican candidates to actually stand up for themselves when leftist reporters give them crap.
Except for a few like Lonnegan, the gop has become the party of mush.

My wife & I just got back from voting.
For a change we did not have to hold our noses either.
We here in Belvidere Warren County will be solidly for Lonegan. Hopefully some other areas will come with us.
As of 4:53pm, most conservative districts in the state are facing issues at the polling places, whether it is missing voter data or lack of access due to construction.
Democrat disenfranchisement tactics at work.

If NJ was that far gone Christie would have never been elected. The Dems that win the governor’s office are always white guys; the state is only 14% black (by the new definition - 1 drop of black blood) and the governors don’t come from the cities. The most worrisome trend is the import of Hispanics to replace the fleeing American-Americans; Booker won the mayor’s race in Newark with them, and if he wins this he has them and the new generation of white trash to thank. Blacks in NJ are actually weak politically; Hispanics already have a Senator here.

Just voted in West Wildwood at about 5:00. I was number 106. The poll workers were expecting no more than 50 people total for the day. With 3 hours left, it might get to 150. This tells me Lonegan did well down here. I hope the rest of the state feels the same way.

Booker will win this by simple virtue of the fact that he has been a horrible Mayor and is corrupt. While a killer to a political career in some states that is a ringing endorsement here in NJ.
Voting machines reported down in GOP areas.They can’t win a fair fight.

I would say it is pretty far gone here. Remember, Christie was elected in large part because people hated Corzine. Also, his was one of those elections that was a reaction to Obama’s 2008 win, along with the VA governor and Scott Brown. I just voted Lonegan, and I would be very happy to be very wrong about the outcome, but I doubt it will happen.
Christie was elected because of high taxes (which is also why he isn’t facing any serious challengers for re-election); NJ property owners have had enough. As long as the state is in horrible shape, the Dems will have to fight for it; our underclass is miserable as well, and high unemployment ensures they will be for years to come.
Booker ahead by only 7% with 22% counted a few minutes ago - anything within 10% I think is a sign that the “Republican Brand” hasn’t been as tarnished by the evil government shutdown as ‘rats and RINO’s like Perino and Krauthammer would like to think....
Seriously, what is with Perino?! Her and Rove should take the quiet road like W did.
It’s tuneout time for me when I see her face appear on the screen anymore - I guess she’s just part of the old-guard who jealously reacts when the new guys on the block start to get some attention - she seems to think quite highly of herself and I think lately, since she predicted Cruz and the tea-partiers would fail in their attempts, she’s happy to be saying I told you so at the way things are turning out.....
