Ted Cruz, Mike Lee missing from GOP Lunch
POLITICAL ^ | October 16, 2013 | Seung Min Kim

Posted on 10/16/2013 4:46:10 PM PDT by Idaho_Cowboy

Senate Republicans huddled Tuesday to discuss the latest on the fiscal crisis engulfing the Capitol, but two key members of their conference were missing from the lunch: Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah.

Multiple senators confirmed the absence of the two senators, who have led the crusade in the Senate to shred the president’s health care law.

“I don’t account for their schedules,” Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) quipped when asked about Cruz and Lee’s absence.

Cruz and Lee could become an obstacle to moving quickly on a fiscal deal in the Senate, where consent from all 100 senators is required for speedy action. Asked repeatedly on Monday evening whether he would object to an emerging deal in the Senate to raise the debt ceiling and reopen the federal government, Cruz declined to respond.

Rand Slams Congress for Funding Egypt’s Generals:

Sen. Rand Paul is hammering his fellow senators for keeping billions in financial aid flowing to Egypt’s military — even as Cairo’s security forces massacre anti-government activists.

Rand Paul’s immigration speech

...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

[but he’s not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]

This is political war with the RINOS. Peter King, Boehner (total weakling) Cantor, Boehner’s butt boy. Mc Connell,McCain,Limpy Gramnesty..Cornyn. It is these ( name more) that are the traitors to this conservativism. It is these we now turn, in the political context, to make their live miserable.

This is political war with the RINOS. Peter King, Boehner (total weakling) Cantor, Boehner’s butt boy. Mc Connell,McCain,Limpy Gramnesty..Cornyn.

At the risk of bringing down FReeper wrath upon me, there is an important distinction that we need to make.

1. We now have evidence that the Tea Party wing effectively controls the House Republicans and, with them, the House.

2. John Boehner stood with them throughout -- much to everybody's pleasant surprise. He didn't fold until Mitch McConnell and the Republicans in the Senate sold him out. And, at that point, the battle was, in fact, lost.

3. Our real problem, therefore, resides within the Senate Republicans. Is this not the third time now that McConnell and the Senate Republicans have negotiated a deal with Reid and the Democrats that has left Boehner and the House Republicans high and dry?

In other words, House Republicans are not a problem -- save the pipsqueaks like Peter King (R-NY). The real problem is in the Senate -- starting with Mitch McConnell and the likes of Lindsay Graham, John McCain, Lamar Alexander, etc.

Thus, our job is to a.) cull out the fakers and the porkers among the Republican Senators, adding to the conservative core of Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, et al and b.) regain majority control of the Senate in 2014.

Ted, Mike and Sarah should found a 3rd Party—Maybe get Trump to fund it. The Liberty Party. In a month it would be coast to coast-—The Tea Party independent party! That or take over the Conservative Party or the Constutional Party.

We’ll see, but I’ve heard this before. Conservatives livid at corrupt Republicans for some betrayal, but end up supporting them when election time comes around. McCain and Graham are prime examples. Conservatives better start walking the walking and not just talking the talk, or we’re going to end up with Senators Graham and McConnell and a host of more of the GOPe once again next year.

I agree with you the House GOPe leadership isn't 100% of the problem, or even 50%, but that's a long way from agreeing they are 0%.

“it’s time for a third party”

I’m beginning to think so... If this is what we get sticking with the not-so-grand old party, we might as well let it crash and burn, and rebuild from scratch.

The left has managed to take over the democrat party, we on the right are not making much progress taking over our party.

On the one hand, we have the GOP House leadership -- which stood up for the conservative view until McConnell, et al, cut their legs out from under them for the third time.

On the other hand, we have the GOP Senate leadership -- which wielded the axe -- and a majority of the GOP Senate, which cheered him on (and took potshots at their own, who were on the walls).

Yeah, maybe the one has some problems...but the other is THE PROBLEM.

It's a question of priorities. If you've got but one dollar to contribute, it should go to primarying McConnell, not Boehner.

Fair enough. Fortunately, I have more than a dollar.

Frankly, I think primarying McConnell has a better chance of bearing fruit. As far as Boehner is concerned, he has not been a very effective opposition leader who has whiffed several opportunities to stymie Obastard. I’d like to see him challenged for Speaker, but I don’t see a Trey Gowdy stepping forward. Replacing Boehner with Cantor, for instance, would be a stupid bloodletting that won’t move the ball one inch downfield.

Agree 100%.

There's much more to gain by primarying McConnell.

In the meantime, we can live with Boehner (and I doubt we could with Cantor).
