Democrats need to win 17 House seats in order to recapture control of the lower chamber in 2014. So can they do it? Let's take a look:
The National Republican Congressional Committee has compiled a list of what they believe are the seven most vulnerable House members, whom they refer to as the NRCC Red Zone Democrats. And in three of those seven races this past quarter, GOP challengers out-raised their opponents by decisive (and impressive) margins ...
Mia Love (R) $592,355
Rep. Jim Matheson (D) $278,540
Martha McSally (R) $394, 880
Rep. Ron Barber (D) $318,584
Evan Jenkins (R) $207,285
Rep. Nick Rahall (D) $158,529
Whats more, two other NRCC Red Zone Democrats, Reps. Collin Peterson (D-MN) and Mike McIntyre (D-NC), also boasted uninspiring hauls. This will no doubt make it harder for them to stay afloat come election season, not least because the NRCC is explicitly targeting them:
Rep. Collin Peterson (D) $82,852
Rep. Mike McIntyre (D) $188,666
Lets not forget, either, that some Democratic incumbents are already being out-raised by their opponents. Never a good sign:
Stewart Mills (R) $243,828
Rep. Rick Nolan (D) $129,472
Carlos Curbelo (R) $451,931
Rep. Joe Garcia (D) $410,250
Don’t care. Rep or Dem ... same thing.
A sinking ship is still sinking.
Shutdown really hurt them/NOT
I agree, we need to start seeing a (T)= Tea Party next to those names.
The unions and Dem PACs will spend independently of the official campaign, and their budgets are not seen in the figures.
People are giving to individual candidates and not to the “machine”.
Democrats are going to have to allocate big bucks to hold the Senate.
They probably figure the House is out of reach.
Azeem, Light! So you’re saying that Steve Lonegan = Cory Booker = Mia Love = Jim Matheson = Ted Cruz = Hillary Clinton = Tom McClintok = Barak Obama?
You’re blind, Dude and you talk like a loser. We’re winning and we don’t need pouters to sit out another election. Start working and stop whining.
I am so so pissed at the GOP, or should I say dems in GOP clothing?
Blue Team, Red Team same team...
Conservative candidates will raise tremendous amounts... the republican party is going to lose donations from all but their corporatist masters.
So help me GOD, I will do the same.
I’ve heard Mia Love (not sure if she is still a mayor or not) speak various times on TV. I think she’s great from what I’ve heard; and, I believe (though not totally sure) that she was supported by Gov Palin and the Tea Party when she ran for Rep last year. Glad to see she’s running again.
This appears to be precisely what some are asserting; and it is, frankly, nonsensical.
Those who plan to either sit on their hands, when the next election rolls around, or vote third-party, are effectively helping the Democratic candidates in those races in which they are eligible to vote. It is only through the rationalization that there is (supposedly) no difference between the two parties that this may be justified...
Show me where anything that I was voting for was passed by the current repubs.
Can't can you because they vote dem party line.
I plan on doing everything I can to remove my current GOP congressman. If he is on the ballet I will not vote for him.
Your bull crap argument don't fly in the real world were we are stabbed in the back by the very people we vote for.
I’m sorry, Cruz and Lee are not Republicans according to people like McCain, King, and Hutchinson. Did the Republican party issue a condemnation and clarification of the RINOs?
The Republican party worked hand in hand with the Democrats AGAINST the Conservatives. Why would you save that? It reminds me of the woman who keeps taking her man back after he hits her again.
Even that crazy lady they pulled from the House floor has clearer vision than anyone defending Republicans. You cannot have two masters. The Republican Party serves money, not God, not the People. At least the Democrats are honest about their evil intentions.
Can't can you because they vote dem party line.
You neglected to include the most pertinent part of my post, viz.: "It is only through the rationalization that there is (supposedly) no difference between the two parties that [either not voting or voting third-party] may be justified..."
It is evident that you believe there is no effective difference between the two major parties.
I believe that is utterly wrongheaded...
It’s very unlikely that the democrats will have a net gain of House seats and it would shocking and unprecedented if they actually won a majority. The President’s party taking House control in a midterm has never happened AFAIK.
