Posted on 10/17/2013 6:50:04 AM PDT by cotton1706
The outmaneuvering of the House by the White House and Senate finds the media and their Democrat puppeteers pronouncing the demise of the Republican Party. Since when is spine a political liability?
The real villains of the battle of the budget and debt ceiling are John McCain, Susan Collins and Bob Corker in the Senate and Peter King in the House, not Sens. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee and not the House's Tea Party Republicans.
These fiscal fisticuffs were always about ObamaCare, the obscenely expensive new entitlement that is demonstrating daily why Americans have been right to oppose it all along. But a latex glove-clad Uncle Sam, M.D., won't let them get a second opinion before insertion of this toxic suppository.
"We fought the good fight," House Speaker John Boehner told Cincinnati talk radio's Bill Cunningham. "We just didn't win."
But Boehner, Cruz and the other Republicans with the guts to throw everything at stopping socialized medicine can say more. Like John Paul Jones in the Battle of Flamborough Head, they can tell their sneering enemies, "We have not yet begun to fight!"
McCain is already nyah-nyahing that he predicted it all, as he calls his fellow GOPers "shameful." A self-serving Collins helped Democrats defeat her own party by floating a rival plan at the worst possible moment. And King made sure his Long Island constituents know he's not one of those yahoos from flyover country.
In a few weeks, however, the shutdown and risk of default will be dim memories, while ObamaCare will remain an ever-more-palpable reality.

Token resistance to appease your base and then cave is not the good fight. The good fight does not end early you have to finish the course, you have to keep the faith. If you don’t do that you haven’t fought the good fight.
The GOP fight was important. And it brought forward a couple of important GOP voices go-forward.
I think we had to fight.
We will have to again, in just a couple months.
Do not lose sight of that. Just a couple months.
How will we do things differently then?
All opposition to the vile socialist policies of Obama and the Democrats is proper and heroic.
I tend to agree. I see a few folks on here dumping on Cruz, et. al. They did the best they could against RINOs and a hostile media that continually lies for Democrats. The answer is to elect more like Cruz, not abandon the party (easier said than done of course)
It also showed many voters that the moderates in the House and Senate were total hypocrites in their professed desire to repeal Obamacare. “We not not have enough votes in the senate, they say? And how many would that be, 60? And how likely is that to be achieved in 2014? Even when they were in the minority, the Democrats fought, and raised such a storm. But the strategy of McCain et al is simply to reach across the Aisle and pick up what scraps of pork the majority is willing to let them have.
I figure right around April 15th 10’s of millions of liberals will be lamenting on “Why, oh why, didn’t I listen to the anti-PPACA people”.
April 15, 2015 they’ll be donning pitchforks and torches when they get the rate hikes that are being well hidden right now.
The mask is off the dictator - we now have the images from a tyrant’s spiteful shutdown and where we re headed under Obamacare. Just imagine if he doesn’t get his way on something and shuts down Obamacare once people have to rely on Government sponsored plans. Non-essential Dr’s will not work, though they probably will still be paid. Anything but an emergency will be shut down - things like routine physicals that could uncover real problems could be delayed, with at least in some instances very real impacts on people’s health.
The next election will be after some of the cost effects of Obamacare are realized - hopefully conservatives will use this to their advantage. Too bad we can’t get rid of McCain until 2016.
John Boehner need to go, he has no creditably. This is not the first time he has caved before democrat request cowardly believing their lies and allowing such lies to not be exposed by test.
The party cannot go on with him as speaker, this fact should have been clear in 2012 when he help lose an unlose-able election.
We need someone new and at this point it don’t much matter whom.
I heard Stephen Moore on CSPAN radio this morning and he claims he told Cruz privately that if he cant unite the GOP House and Senate Republicans behind a shutdown/debt limit fight then it was sure to fail, as it did.
And what we saw was Dems all stayed united behind Obama and Reid, and their messaging was very carefully crafted and delivered consistently. None of them strayed.
They had a plan and a united team to fight and win.
Obama said up front ‘I give the GOP nothing’and all the Dems stuck by it.
The GOP was fractured from the start.
Looks like this deal takes away the House ability to hold up debt limit extensions, so they can all vote ‘no’ now, Senators too, and the debt still gets extended.
Only hundreds have been able to sign up for a health care plan at the Obamacare websites. The Wall Street Journal reported:
Okay now we will try the landline # 1-800-318-2596 listed above or 1-800-318-2596 = 1-800-FAU-CKYO.
Unfortunately theses RINO’s damage our party and most of all our cause with their words. They are used by the left to legitimatize their positions and and delegitimatize our own.
Getting rid of John however should be our top priority, after caving to Democrats numerous times when the going got tough nobody least of all the Democrats can ever believe him or expect he means what he says.
As the speak of the house that makes him toothless.
It was just the opposite with the HMO I used to be in. Doctors were so busy with routine annual physicals scheduled months in advance that it was almost impossible to get an appointment when you felt a bit under the weather.
We've learned that Tea Partiers cannot coexist with GOPe.
Without the Tea Party, the House Speaker would be Nancy Pelosi.
We're getting dangerously close to TP going Galt. Ok by me, because you can't treat cancer with placebos.
Having no balls, and no creditably is costly in politics ad it might has well have utterly destroyed the republican party under John Boehner.
The Democrats had every reason in the world to expect John Boehner would cave as we did. The simple reason is John Boehner did cave the last time and the time before and the time before.
John Boehner ALWAYS caves, he has no credibility that he means what he says and thus we don’t even have reason to believe him. The democrats called his bluff safely as everyone recognizes. This is failed leadership, John Boehner’s failed leadership.
We’re still right and will continue to point it out.
Well I should probably stop commenting on Obamacare.
I just wanted to comment that we need to remain united.
We have plenty of fights ahead. One big one coming up in on immigration.
While we are sending American jobs to other countries...
NO. Bring back American jobs.
Nor can they beat Dems without them, and vice versa.
20% of Senate and 20% of House cannot beat Dems who have ~ 50% of each and stick together.
Here were the three killers :
1) Fractured GOP team, united Dem team as I detailed in last comment, created changing objectives
2) Shutdown didnt shutdown Obama-care but it did other stuff.
3) The House defund bill sent to senate had to be voted against to keep Reid from passing a ‘clean’ CR that doesnt defund O-care, that gave GOP Senatore an easy out and more than half took it.
See if Obama has a budget proposal by then. He’ll have been given several extra months.
Ted Cruz has positioned himself to look REALLY GOOD as THE guy who tried to save you from Obamacare after a few more months of its rollicking failure.
The FY14 budget has been on the Hill for months. What you’re waiting for is the Congress to do its job and fund the government, so we can get on with the business at hand. These short-term CRs are unnecessary and hurt us (and by extension the contractors/vendors who do business with/for the government). What the House needs to do is to pass each individual appropriations bill (there are 12), and send them one at a time to the Senate to vote up or down. There is NO need for a CR, and NO need for an Omnibus.
I count five times he went to Pelosi to pass bills, 2 last session and 3 times just this year.
I am glad you mentioned him because it was obvious to me and many others here that this would end up with Bohner putting a Senate bill up for a vote, yet we were constantly told to call our Representatives even if they were Pelosi, Reid. McCain or even Peter King anyway as if that would stop Bohner.
This is the GOP Kabuka dance.
You see at the start of this session January not a single House member, not even Lou Gomert would challenge Bohner as Speaker. Sure he voted for Micky Mouse instead of Pelsoi or Bohner, big deal.
And they are not challenging him even now.
You see they need him as cover,. He gets to be beat up by both sides. He is the goat.
Its a dance and AM talk radio is in on it: "
That no good $%%#$ Bohner sold us out AGAIN. I am sooo outraged AGAIN. I cant believe this happened AGAIN ( So listen to me because I say what you feel)."
Below is the list of gutless GOP sh*twipes that voted to help the Democrats further destabilize the country. Be sure you all let them know what you think of them.
And Boehner... he showed what happens when you need a Man to stand up, and you get a spineless jellyfish with no principles.
87 weasels... 87 Gutless, democrat-ass-sucking, boot-licking weasels that don’t have the stomach to fight.
And add McCain and the Senate RINO clowns in there as well.
Those that stood strong - 144 of them... Let them know as well what you think of their “comrades’” behavior.
For whatever it’s worth at this point.
Senate NO votes:
At least Toomey got this one right.
Hey, Newt (w help from Dole) caved almost the same in 1996 against Clinton as Bohner/McConnell did now and within a few years it was spun as the greatest conservative/GOP victory in the history of the US, on AM talk radio at different times.
I have been lectured here about it many times over the years “It balanced the budget a year after it ended. thats all that matters’
We can start writing the script now:
1) Obamacare website doesnt work beacause of the shutdown
2) Amnesty bill is dead because of the shutdown
3) We finally got rain on the East Coast because of the shutdown, my grass is green again
4) Obama and libs are all terrified of GOP because of shutdown, they just hold great poker faces, those are fake laughs.
(got pinged with that one a few days ago)
5)Now Obama has to enforce that law he refused to because....
Lets be GOP Urban Legion makers.
“...Lets be GOP Urban Legion makers....”
No, let’s not. Let’s just point out how feckless they are and put it on the table.
I’m registering as Tea Party Independent, and leaving the GOP. The most conservative candidate gets my support.
I don’t give a rat’s ass if it splits the GOP anymore.
They’ve already proved they don’t deserve my support. They can’t be trusted. Some of them can, and I will support them individually.
But the rest can KMA.
Ok, I get that you are upset about it but I cant understand that above statement ‘cant be trusted’.
They did exactly what I expected them to and ended it exactly as expected.
I just didnt realize that the debt limit threat date (after 2 weeks of partial shutdown) would be what would bring about the final surrender,
until ~ two weeks ago I heard that Bohner warned them that he would extend the debt limit with or without them.
Maybe I’ll rephrase it - they can be trusted to buckle.
That was leaked out of House caucus and I bet when the Dems heard it they knew to make passing a CR a demand for Bohner getting to increase the debt limit.
Like my post said, that failure of that last alternative with the Vitter amendment to fly with GOP house members was when Bohner let them know it was over, Tuesday night.
much better, thanks.
If you before yesterday trusted them all to hold on then that would be a bad indication.
You and I have shared a few common war movies and we both love history, I was lucky to get two history courses in college as social electives with the same professor who I appreciated:
1) WWII, and 2) American Diplomatic History (all great US Dip wins were made with gunboats pointing at the other side).
If you look at this last battle as a war, which it was, there is no way to not conclude that the GOP went in outgunned and no plan and fractured.
Dems had all the heavy weapons and the plan and unity and the confidence that they would win gave them discipline.
Win was simple for them :Give GOP NOTHING
Them Losing/surrendering was a certainty.
The Paths of Glory 1957.
“...If you look at this last battle as a war, which it was, there is no way to not conclude that the GOP went in outgunned and no plan and fractured...”
I do. Politics is war by other means. War is politics by other means. Clausewitz was right.
Problem is, the GOP doesn’t understand it yet. Or are willfully ignorant of exactly who and what the Dems have become.
