Obamacare Implosion Not Academic
Accuracy in Academia ^ | October 17, 2013 | Malcolm A. Kline

Posted on 10/17/2013 9:35:00 AM PDT by Academiadotorg

The professoriate, as seen through the eyes of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), thinks that Obamacare is wildly popular despite GOP efforts to make it unpopular. “Likewise, it seems not to have been enough that the Far Right extremists in the House have voted forty-one times to repeal the ACA [Affordable Care Act),” Martin Kich writes on the Academe blog maintained by the AAUP. “In addition, they have publicly campaigned to convince GOP-dominated states to decline to establish insurance exchanges and to convince young Americans to refuse to sign up for the insurance coverage newly available through such exchanges.”

Kich teaches at Wright State in Ohio. “Now they are launching a formal investigation into the problems with the ACA information sites, which have proven to be so in demand that some of them have repeatedly crashed under the heavy digital traffic,” Kich avers. “Yes, that’s right, the people who have done everything in their power to make the ACA unpopular are now formally going to investigate why its administrators did not anticipate just how immediately popular it would be.”

Kich gives the Republican Party far more credit for savvy public relations and political finesse than it has ever demonstrated. Moreover, the unpopularity of Obamacare has grown since its passage, not only among rock-ribbed Republicans but with deep-pocket Democrats as well.

This can be seen in the staggering number of companies, associations and even school districts which have sought, and received waivers exempting them from Obamacare’s provisions. U. S. Representative Lynn Jenkins, R-Kansas, had her staff compile a list of these waivers, courtesy of a request from the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which grants them.

The waivers run to over a thousand and are clustered in Democratic strongholds.

It took exactly 2 (TWO) words for me to know the entire content of this article. The words?
THE PROFESSORIATE. All that was needed was the addition of a single word....”said”.
The sad thing....it is not funny.

Wordsmithing is a real art form. "Signing up for coverage on an exchange............."

Isn't that "Buying a legally mandated insurance policy on-line"?

"Subsidies for low and middle income people seeking coverage"........

Isn't that really " Federal welfare payments to pay for legally mandated insurance policies"?

Sort of makes you wonder why Harry Reid never ever held a single Senate vote on repeal . . . and why the GOP surrender monkeys would even take a vote on Reid's bill before they ever took a vote on one of the house passed versions of repeal . . . at least to put them on record.

If it is so damn popular, you'd think they would want to be put on record.

Snark has become a way of life for a certain class of “defenders of the faith”, aka as the mainstream media.

Reporting on the impending epic fail of the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010” is somehow twisted into blaming others for its inadequacies and abysmally bad implementation.

The badly mis-named “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010” was ENGINEERED to fail. Ever since the unlamented “Hillarycare” bill introduced by the “Former Occupant of the Oval Office, 1993-2001” was blown out of the water, the moles and trolls have been re-writing the terms, adding clauses and special “deals”, of which nothing was known until AFTER it was passed. Most of these “deals” were set up to be contradictory, or even unworkable, by setting one set of potential clients against another, with no mechanism for reconciliation of the differences.

A skyscraper built of toothpicks.

Don’t confuse popularity, with curiosity. The vast majority of people that have logged into the exchanges are merely checking out the “product”. Trying to find out how much of a subsidy is available, what’s it going to cost, what are the deductibles, etc., does not make Obamacare popular. Remember, its mandatory to buy insurance. Wait until the masses get the shaft. Then we’ll start seeing a shift in the electorate.

If it was so damn popular, it wouldn't need to be mandatory.
