I suspect it has more to do with the fact that in every such situation, WalMart will end up getting sued by one party or the other. You can't be certain that the whole thing wasn't a set up to begin with. Noble intentions or not, the employee endangered himself by physically intervening.
He gets killed or injured, he sues WalMart.
The bad guy sues WalMart, along with his “girlfriend”.

Want to stop this stupidity? Find a way to derail the lawsuit lottery form of welfare.

I agree.

As lawyers are officers of the court, shouldn't their numbers be limited?

We don't allow people to receive police training and then go into private practice as real cops, they must find a jurisdiction to represent.
