GOP senator criticizes Heritage (Orrin Hatch goes on MSNBC to trash Jim DeMint)
NBC News ^ | 10/17/13 | Jessica Taylor

After last evening's vote to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling, groups on the right were already criticizing Republicans who voted for the bipartisan compromise as traitors and threatening to work against their re-election.

But longtime GOP Sen. Orrin Hatch said on MSNBC's "Daily Rundown" Thursday that those groups -- particularly a surging and newly controversial Heritage Action -- were risking their credibility by attacking Republicans and fueling primary challengers.

-snip-

Hatch, who himself survived a primary challenge from the right in 2012, had both empathy and praise for Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in leading the deal, possibly to his own peril. With the Kentucky Republican facing both a primary and general election fight, he drew the ire of both sides by working with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to finally reach a compromise after 16 days.

"McConnell is a terrific leader," said Hatch. "There’s nobody who’s been any better than McConnell. He’s good, he’s tough, he’s smart, he knows what he’s doing and I’m telling you something -- this has been tough for him."

I’m glad that the grain is being separated from the chaff, finally. Too bad it couldn’t have happened before the 2008 election.

Hatch is the ultimate beltway careerist. Closing ranks with his own kind, of both parties, against those who would serve America instead of themselves.

And another old, white, grasping, milquetoasty backstabber - the face of the de facto GOP - is heard from. I haven't seen the Republican senators this active and aroused since... well... EVER. They can't defend the Constitution, but they sure as hell can defend their own fouled turf.

A$$holes.

He’s good, he’s tough, he’s smart...

And he sold his country down the road.

McConnell Debt Plan: Press Release Conservatism

Section 1002 of the bill provides for McConnell’s infamous resolution of disapproval. Basically, within three weeks of the President’s official request for a debt limit increase (until Feb 7, 2014 in this case), Congress can force a vote to disapprove of the request. There’s one problem, though. That resolution must pass with 2/3ds majorities in both houses.

There's no recovering from this. The U.S.A. is finished.

I read this headline, and it’s the last in a long string of such headlines, and now I wonder what’s going to happen.

Because it seems like ‘that’s enough’.

Orrin Hatch has been touch and go on conservative vs sleazy politics as usual working for the undisclosed donor, ceaselessly disappointing conservatives since he grilled then Ltc Ollie North in 1986

He goes on MSNBC to criticize conservatives?

B Bennet and Ann Coulter lecture that it’s ‘crazy’ not to want republicans in power, that no matter what they do, we need them in the majority, and, by name they cite McCain

Pat Buchanan says with republicans willing to unleash obamacare onto the American people who would vote for them?

Orrin Hatch is one of many of the GOP who is so happy for any spotlight of media but NOT the spotlight of truth that Jim Demint and the conservatives are working to shine on them for the sake of their employers-The People

They need to get out of the way. Ann is stuck hawking a book she threw together in which she chose the wrong side again. Beck gave her a dose of sunlight yesterday

Hatch is a smooth talking traitor to the Americans he lords over. If he talks just a bit softer, he’ll sound like Reid (brothers in elitist subjugation).

“say adios Orrin, voters will remove you from your cushy government job chomping at the government trough”

Doubtful. Orrin is 79 years old. He easily overcame a primary challenge and was reelected in 2012 with 65% of the vote despite having been a buddy of Ted Kennedy for years and inside member of the “club”. He won’t face the voters again until 2018 when he’ll be 84 and likely too old to run.

Due to his age, like McCain, Hatch is probably in his last term. Not facing the voters again allows him to do real mischief with no consequences. Plus, having easily beaten back a challenge in 2012 he likely feels invincible should his health allow him to run again in 2018.

Hatch is a prime example of the need for both term limits and age limits.

Pope Paul VI put the opulent vestments away. Pope JP II lived in poverty in his little room there was nothing but a bed and a table. He gave away every gift he ever received

Any one can serve without being lavished upon and made up and put in the spotlight

And that is what is going to appeal to voters (the majority?, i don’t know)

One doesn’t need the pomp to go on twitter and the new republicans are adept at the new media

Obie said yesterday he was going to get good at the new media

He cannot. The Internet media has no middle man. Any dishonest broker cannot stand up to the honesty

I wonder about the constitutionality of that provision. It is an abdication of a constitutional role.

That is about the only thing Pubbies are really good at: the circular firing squad.

They don’t need Dems to attack Pubbies, they do that all on their own.

When was the last time any Dem made headlines by attacking another Dem [election primaries excluded]?

Of course, these kinds of attacks make the Dems smile. Divide and conquer. The Dems know these kinds of attacks are splitting the Pubbies and polarizing the GOP factions.

It might well be happening, but with the operative term being "make headlines" the RATagandists would certainly be suppressing it.

Sometimes I wonder how many of the “firebrands” we see here on Free Republic are just paid Obama trolls trying to divide and thereby conquer America’s patriots.

But...but...THAT would be a “dirty trick”!

I rest my case.

During election cycles, various candidate-bots do show up and attack anyone posting anything that is not favorable to their candidate. They are not here to discuss, but to spread their propaganda.

Some talkshow hosts do sign on or have previously. [FR is good show prep.]

Most probably, the opposition have their ‘spies’ and bots on here, too. They seem to pop us during especially hot issues — Obamacare, amnesty, funding bills, etc.

"McConnell is a terrific leader," said Hatch. "There’s nobody who’s been any better than McConnell. He’s good, he’s tough, he’s smart, he knows what he’s doing and I’m telling you something -- this has been tough for him."

Oh really? Could have fooled me! McConnell needs to go along with a long list of other long-time senators who are useless and spineless. These guys pass themselves off as so great simply because they've been there so long (what's the saying: buildings, politicians and whores all get respectable when they get old?). But we have seen a freshman senator truly stir things up and do some fighting, and we need more like him. Not jellyfish like McConnell, or mavericks like McCain, nor nothings like Alexander and yes, you, Senator Hatch.

‘Pat Buchanan says with republicans willing to unleash obamacare onto the American people who would vote for them?’

Republicans quietly support Obamacare and are feckless. Democrats support Obamacare and are ruthless. People vote for ruthless not feckless. People love powerful leaders who play rough with them.

Sen Cruz is just doing his job

In so doing the republicans who do support Obamacare are brought into recognition.

That’s not Cruz’ fault, but they hate him like they are the schoolyard bullies they are

They choose to be corrupt, no matter what the pressure nor temptations both which they’ll give into again - personal character and lack thereof work that way

It should be their problem. Not ours and not sen Cruz’

Hatch is a RINOsaur like McConnell, McCain and too many others.

Let’s hope Palin realizes she was played by some of the RINOsaurs she supported like Hatch and McCain. THis is a war between conservatives and the GOPe, time to either win this battle or move on the a Tea Party - the GOPe Rove and the inside the beltway crowd.

No MOre Lesser of 2 evils. I want only people with convictions not people who will whore themselves out for a little power.
