Bob Lewis, the Associated Press political reporter who last week published an erroneous report about Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe, has been temporarily suspended, POLITICO has learned.
Lewis, a highly respected veteran on the Richmond political scene, will no longer cover the race between McAuliffe and Ken Cuccinelli, and may be suspended through the election. His last story on the race was published Oct. 14.
Lewis did not respond to a request for comment regarding the suspension. The Associated Press declined to comment on personnel matters.
On Oct. 9, Lewis published an exclusive report for the AP alleging that McAuliffe had lied to a federal official investigating a death benefits scam, seemingly upending one of this years most contentious political races. The Associated Press retracted the story one hour and thirty-eight minutes later, on the grounds that the initials referenced in the indictment did not identify McAuliffe. Lewis immediately took responsibility.
For the Associated Press, a worldwide organization that prides itself on its reputation for accuracy and thoroughness, the incident was a black mark on its credibility. In addition to getting its facts wrong, Lewis's initial report did not include a response to the accusation from the McAuliffe campaign, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The retraction also sent shock waves throughout the political press corps, where friends and former colleagues of Lewis were shocked to see that a veteran reporter like Lewis had made such a mistake.
Bob is as honest, as straightforward, as fair as anyone I know. Hes a great reporter who never had a partisan bone in his body, Michael Shear, the New York Times White House correspondent who spent more than five years in Richmond, told POLITICO at the time.
I dont know what happened and it makes it harder to understand what happened given what I know about Bob," Amy Gardner, the Washington Posts local politics editor, said. "He has always been the most aggressive, straight-shooting, tough-as-nails reporter."

Another article from same lame site. Entire propaganda wing on this race.
Last post from from this site, horrible. Wonder if their web designers went on to create Obamacare site.
If you want to hold on to your job in the DNC run, state controlled “media”, never attack a leftwing extremist like McAuliffe.
He is lucky Obama and the DNC have not had him
arrested or killed by MI or car crash.
“For the Associated Press, a worldwide organization that prides itself on its reputation for accuracy and thoroughness”
“the incident was a black mark on its credibility.”
Associated Press not even trying to hide their liberal bias any more
I smell setup ... publish a lie then retract with huge fanfare making the criminal bastard look like he is unfairly treated, for the sympathy vote. NEVER trust this lying clintonian devil, McAuliffe.
the incident was a black mark
= = = = = = = = = = =
In the PC world this would be racist, wouldn’t it?
Should it not read ‘’’’was an African American mark????
Also, it the ‘accused’ were an R, the ‘correction/apology would be coming AFTER all the votes were counted and the election certified...Unless, of course, it were close, then the ‘LIE’ would be repeated, not as a quote but using “An anonymous source”.....
Trying to decrypt this Liberal BS sure makes ones head spin.
I smell setup

Definitely...I think that Cuccinelli had been running ads citing this article...
I know these people can be ‘fast’ but
Like the professional signs for the ‘closure of Govt Facilities’ just happened to spring up in a couple of days when we all ‘know’ things just don’t move THAT fast, hell it would have taken a week for the chit requesting the signs to be approved then get some Union Type Puke make them up, proof them etc etc etc...
Definitely the ‘fastest’ cooperating job ever performed by the Govt.
Shutdown proclaimed Mon PM, SIGNS POSTED Tues or Wed....hmmmm
“temporarily suspended” = paid vacation = reward for a job well done.
When Obama was encountering blowback during the 2008 election cycle (questions about his paperwork, questions about his attending koranic studies classes in Indonesia, etc. etc.) some things were “embellished” on the “list” (like saying Obama was sworn into the Senate on a koran) to put the entire list in question.
Common tactic. Tell lies about yourself then use the strawmen to dispute every blemish.
In the words of “Shrillary”:”What Difference Does It Make Now”???????????????????
Why would he risk his career/reputation on this? I smell a whif of Eau de Arkancide here.
What risk? The media is totally in the tank for the DNC devils so there is no risk. The press will clean him up post haste.
