The mother of a teen boy kidnapped and murdered more than a decade ago is voicing her outrage that one of the defendants is about to be released from prison.
I have lost a sense of justice. I have lost Nick all over again. Its like him dying all over again, Susan Markowitz told CBS2/KCAL9 reporter Randy Paige.
In August 2000, 15-year-old Nicholas Markowitz was kidnapped because of a drug debt his half brother owed a dealer named Jesse James Hollywood.
The innocent teen was held for three days, then tied up with duct tape and led to a shallow grave where he was shot nine times. Markowitzs last days inspired the 2006 film Alpha Dog, which featured an A-list cast and garnered international attention.
Hollywood, considered the mastermind behind the brutal murder, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
The shooter, Ryan Hoyt, was convicted of murder and sentenced to death.
Jesse Rugge, now 33, was convicted of kidnapping and sentenced to life with the possibility of parole in 2002.
He walked my son up to the grave that was already dug. He walked him up and he duct-taped his hands behind his back and his feet together and told Nick, Im not going to hurt you, Susan Markowitz said. And Nick responded, I know you wont. How can you say that and then follow through after looking into those innocent eyes that are now crying thats a special kind of evil.
This week the California state parole board granted Rugges request for parole. He is scheduled to be released Tuesday.
Its very upsetting to think hes going to get out and get married because he has a fiancée and have babies, Markowitz said.
The things you always dreamed about for your son? Paige said.
Yes. He was my only child, Markowitz said.
The state parole board declined Paiges request for an on-camera interview, saying its policy not to comment on specific cases. The board said they based their decision on a finding that the prisoner no longer poses an unreasonable risk of danger to the public.
What do you say to those who say everyone should get a second chance and thats what the justice system is about. When you show that you are not a danger to society and youve learned your lesson should you have a chance to go free? Paige said to Markowitz.
I think that when it involves taking the life of another that you should forfeit yours, said Markowitz, who said the parole boards decision has denied her son the justice he deserves.

That’s California for you. The home of freed killers and commies, wacko politicians, adulterers, druggies, Rap/Hip Hop gang murders, and Charles Manson wannabes.
Does God hate America so much that he cursed us with the leftists of California, or is this an aberration that has become “normal”?
> Jesse Rugge ... sentenced to life with the possibility of parole in 2002.
> California state parole board granted Rugges request for parole. He is scheduled to be released Tuesday
Wait... what? So what does “without the possibility of parole” actually mean?
I got buddies still rotting in federal prison just for smuggling boatloads of pot in the 80s
America....her flag is indeed upside down
Well, there’s an injustice that will hopefully be corrected.
Rugge's sentence included the possibility of parole. In his case, life with "possible" meant 12 years.
Well, theres an injustice that will hopefully be corrected.
When the parole board and the judge are held liable for thier stupidity this compasionate, he or she has been cured, or we dont have the money to lock them up anymore humanitarian think will end.
No jury will convict mom.
Aaaah. It was 2:23am.
God doesn’t and never has hated America. The problem is that the majority of those living in America hate God. And neither he nor His influence will stay where they are not wanted. And that is where America finds itself today. If you think that things are bad now, just wait until tomorrow. Pull your belts tight because the ride is just starting.
Yeah, because this type of senseless violence just doesn't occur in the state you live in. /smh
It's not like he murdered the kid in a barfight or that the kid was a bystander in a botched convenience store robbery. He murdered a helpless, restrained kid deliberately, in cold blood, after toying with him.
He is a stone cold psychopath.
It is simply a matter of time before he does something like this again. And there is no way the judge does not realize this.
Our ideological enemy at that time knew that we would not be defeated on the battlefield and that any one-on-one physical war would end with nuclear annihilation.
Better to tap into our psychology and manipulate our behavior via our beliefs and emotions.
The fittest survivor is not always the physically larger and stronger. No matter how fast and powerful the hardware, a little bug in the software will bring it down.
Convert enough hearts and minds and sooner or later your enemy will demonstrate the ancient wisdom that a house divided against itself cannot stand. We broadcast Radio Free America from the outside, but they countered with a long term plan from within.
Interestingly enough, that bug our enemy planted here killed them before it got us and now our roles are being reversed, as they recover while we succumb.
Yes, you are right. In the 1920s, the influential Italian communist Antonio Gramsci wrote that in order to take over a country or a society, communists first had to take over its institutions, by which he meant the media, the education system, the universities, the legal profession, voluntary organisations and churches. Methodically, and slowly but surely, his idea was put into practice in our country. All of those very institutions have been taken over by the far Left in our country, and they are now taking us to our doom.
But you are correct, parole boards suck all over the country.
You sure are chucking a lot of stones around there sport...
That's what I would do if he killed one of my children.
We are beyond the days when we could expect justice from the Courts. I wouldn’t have said a word, I’d make sure he didn’t live too much longer though.
Your buddies were attempting to defraud the rulers of their share of the financial gains. That’s much different than committing an act of violence. Far more serious.
To #13 and #19:
My state of Virginia has crime, like every other state, but not on the scale of viciousness that is endemic to California.
Most of our horrible crimes are due to gangs, drugs, or psychos, but they are not a weekly occurrence.
When I read the crime articles here at FR and also the links to other crimes in the same city/area, I see that California ranks right up there with Philadelphia, E. St. Louis, Chicago, and Oakland, among other Democratic playgrounds.
From the website “philly.com, 4/27/2009, “Two held in killing of S. Phila. friends”. “The killers knew they had the wrong kids, according to police. But they shot anyway”.
Shooters, Anthony Stachell, 16 and Derek Barnes, 19. Victims Harvey Lewis, 15, “a cadet in the police Explorers program” and Dominque Smith, 18”.
“They showed no remorse, (Capt. James) Clark said.
The killers had a “beef” with “others in the area” so they assumed Lewis and Smith were in that group. When they saw that they weren’t, they killed them anyway, shot them in the back.
One example, even though old, of the viciousness of the crimes being committed on the streets of our cities and mainly in states that either do not have a death penalty, have one but don’t use it, or don’t execute teenagers.
Here in Virginia, we execute murderers, not let them out, that is unless Terry McAuliffe, the Democrat Thug from New York wins, in which case, its’ open season on humanity without any real punishment.
Read about the two killers in Florida who forged passes to get out of prisoner. Luckily there were caught today before they could kill anyone.
We do not take crime seriously in many parts of the US including California. Just found an old article about how the leftist politicians tried to postpone a case before the Supreme Court re the death penalty so that the anti-DP judge Bird might win the seat of Chief Justice of the California SC and abolish capital punishment.
The mindset that lets vicious killers live is a mindset that says that prison staff and medical personnel, and the people on the street, are fair game for those who have absolutely no respect for life, and who will kill again and again( inside the prison or if they escape), until they are killed.
We’ve had a couple cases like that in the DC area in the past (i.e. the murder of Dr. Halberstam by an escaped murderer who had also murdered his cellmate in a high security Chicago prison. If he had been executed for being the cold blooded killer that he was, two lives would have been saved.
[[PS: I’m not talking about circumstantial evidence case; only clearcut “he did it” ones]].
I have an AA (Certificate, equivalent to a degree) in Police Science and my son is a federal police officer. I’ve worked on a federal Organized Crime Task Force (the Gottis and Gambinos, among others), as well as a major terrorism case. I know something about crime and I know that we are no dealing with it the way it should be done, just like we refused to fight in Vietnam (I was there), Iraq (my son fought there)(until Fallujah II), and Afghanistan.
It is the unrealistic mindset of too many Americans that are placing us all in harms way, while those who do the planning live in gated communities and Ivory Towers, or have govt provided body guards.
The rest of us are often left to fend for ourselves.
How long before these judges and parole board members are treated like the monsters they are??
encouraging your kids to sleep their way onto TV?
The media doesn't hire people who doesn't share their "values", they will blacklist them.
