........The conservative press is also pushing the mantra that unsuspecting Tea Party rubes walked blindly into Obama's trap -- to have the radical Tea Party faction foment the shutdown so Obama could use it as leverage against the GOP. But a trap is something one is lured into unwittingly, taken by surprise. Cruz and Lee weren't oblivious to the risks associated with their defund stance. No one was duped. Disappointed in the outcome maybe, but not duped.
The real trap here--the one we are walking into today--is the one Obama set as soon as the 2012 election left the House under Republican control: to get Republicans focused on divisive issues in order to destroy the GOP from within, as they eat their own.
Maybe Republican leadership has been unaware but the party has been crumbling from within for quite some time. Calls for moderation, disagreement about immigration and the perpetuation of Big Government-- among other issues--have left many social conservatives and Tea Partiers disillusioned with the party, threatening to withhold financial and GOTV support. As alternatives, they have considered leaving the GOP, not voting at all and starting a third party -- guaranteeing Democrat electoral hegemony for decades. This is not good.
Despite its negatives, the defund effort brought back into the fold those Republicans on the verge of leaving. Once Republican legislators showed they were willing to go to bat for the grassroots and roll the hard six, it established serious good will with the base. When you barely control one-half of one-third of the power in Washington and can't get much done, cultivating harmony at home might not be a bad idea.
As for the circular firing squads with their "I told you so's" and Tea Party putdowns? That only benefits the Democrats.
No, Cruz and Lee weren't blindsided. .....

Note also all Texas Republicans voted against it. That was because they knew they had to stand with Cruz and Co. or answer to their constituents. This would not have happened if they hadn't made a stand and stood firm.
AH! I see...... obama lured the Tea Party into acting like conservatives!! and RINOs into acting like democrats!!
What planet is this idiot from?..
Read it again.
The Quisling Party must DIE!
Don’t be drawn back into the RINO party with talk of dem hegemony - they’ve coaxed us back time after time...so they could stab us in the back again and again.
Refuse to donate to the GOP - starve the traitorous beast.
Primary every RINO - PERIOD. And if the RINO wins the primary, vote dem - because the RINO is more dangerous to the conservative cause than any dem can possibly be.
We’ve played it their way long enough. In spite of their wooing of conservatives, they despise us - they treat us like the “sure thing” prom date - and after they’ve gotten what they want, they discard us like dirty tissue. Then they smoke and joke at the men’s club with their dem friends - and laugh at our expense.
No more! Kill the GOP, destroy the faithless monster!
I see the middle being drawn to the Right (they know we’re out here).
I hope the entire article (ALL the way to the bottom) will be read.
I read it all, but I broke a blood vessel at respect for Peter King.
I will not be lured back only to be date raped again.
I’ll walk the democrat mean streets before I get in the fancy limo with Susan Collins, Marco Rubio, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, John McCain, Peter King, and any other GOP who ran from Cruz or stood and applauded Boehner’s cave.
I have been an ardent republican since I was 10, no more! Those idiots have no idea about the slavering junkyard pooch they’ve screwed this time...
But the RINOs are going to have to move to the RIGHT.
I see that being admitted and encouraged in this piece.
I agree with that. They knew most of their fellow Republicans were cowardly squishes from the very beginning, but they decided to stand up anyway.
And I’m not saying don’t primary the idiots and turncoats.
Sorry, but the GOP has shat upon this Conservative too many times to have one shred of faith in that Party.
Some of the promises made on the campaign trail have not even survived the tabulation of the votes before the reneging started.
I do a half-million dollars of business a year, mostly on a handshake. If your word means nothing, don't even waste my time. I won't do business with you. While that has been successful as a business model, if I were to apply it to the GOP, I would have been out not long after Barry Goldwater.
I didn't leave the Party, they left me.
I see this as a positive sign.
The GOP is shocked by the size of the Tea Party constituency.
We keep pushing and if there is any “unity” it will have to be on our terms.
She’s offering an opening bid - we counter with more push to the right and removal of the anti-Cruz clan (money is always an issue and can’t be spread too thin - so the worst go first).
I will primary AND general the RINOs. I’ve had it. I want to see the McConnells and McCains bloody, broken, beaten and naked in the gutter.
Rubio stood with Cruz and Lee. He may be highly suspect thanks to his amnesty stand and now his endorsement of McConnell, but deserves credit where credit is due. He didn't applaud Boehner's cave AFAIK.
We all know who STOOD with Cruz and Lee and we also know who had their feet in both camps (but leaned a bit to the R side of the aisle to vote).
Sen John Cornyn, the senior senator from Texas, was one of the “leaners” who did not STAND with Cruz in the fight but voted “no” to save his own skin after it was over.
I am tired of supporting faithless politicians just because they do one thing right.
Rubio’s endorsement of McConnell cancels any praise he might be due for standing with Cruz. If he buys a new rope for the hangman he can’t claim to support the condemned man.
Rubio is a RINO and is worthy of disdain.
As far as I am concerned, one thing Cruz did was to get these turncoats to show their true colors.
"I'm sorry" doesn't get it, come election. Every one of the SOBs should be primaried, no free rides back in, not for any of them.
But, considering how people seem to forget the last election cycle's getting stuffed under the bus as soon as the votes were tallied, (and people have been forgetting for decades), it is likely that too many will return to office facing nothing more threatening than a Dem challenger in the general.
They need to feel the real threat of job loss--for lying to the electorate. They need to remember who is the boss--The People.
And the holding Jennifer Rubin in high regard.
Anyone who refers to barely controlling one-half of one-third of the government is a natural member of the surrender caucus—even if here asking the GOPe to pipe down in its complaints about the tea party.
Read it again.
I did.. she is delusionary.. whats happening should happen..
The “party” SHOULD be disassembled....
Many “republicans” are not republicans at all..
You can remove the democrat from the party but it’s hard to remove the democrat from the democrat..
Many sometimes (MOST) republicans in some places love democracy..
No democracy as ever been democratic.. none..
Therefore they ARE indeed democrats..
Republicans generally are like Pavlof’s dogs..
and certain democrats have the whistle..
Democracy is a lie.. thats WHY these men said THIS..
Democracy is indispensable to socialism.
The goal of socialism is communism. -V.I. Lenin
The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism .-Karl Marx
Does this author say anything new that hasn’t been tried by true conservatives trying to save the GOP, since Goldwater?
Today there are more independents, more alternative media, more intellectual firepower, more past failures (RomneyDoleMcCainBoehnerBushes), more DEBT, and more proximity to collapse - more REASONS - to form a 3rd party than ever before.
We obviously took away separate feelings from this OpEd.
I hear fear of the rolling Tea Party tide and someone calling to the party establishment to “Look!”
It can’t be stopped. The RINOs will be swept up or pulled down in the undertow.
Cruz and Co are the leading edge of that Tea Party tidal wave.
Let’s hope... probably hope against hope..
Pretty much America has been brain washed into thinking democracy IS A GOOD THING..
When it is a filthy LIE.. always has been..
Thats WHY? the US Constitution has the word democracy no where in it.. ON PURPOSE..
Not ONLY are democrats deluded.. but republicans as well..
and a fair amount of loosertarians..
Seeing their money dry up will get their attention.
A lot of RINOs can’t be removed now and they know it.
They know voters have a short memory span and hope that things will shift and that their political dip will rise again.
The heat must not be lifted. Good candidates must be located, funded and elected.
I do believe we are allies in this.
Senator Cruz has the GOP’s undivided attention because he has ours and we have his back.
Maybe so...(money)... I saw your other thread..
Seems NO limit to the tolerance of people for the Obamanoids..
It’s like..... the mother of the pychotic kid thats says he’s really a good boy.. when he’s a monster..
It’s not a matter of what they know.. it’s a matter of what they WANT TO KNOW....
Theres no end to the horrible things obama and minions have already done..
It’s that most DO NOT want to know them.. They go la,la.la.la.la. when you try to tell them..
Yes republicans as well..
Seems America HAS the President they deserve..
I hear you and agree.
Now it’s time to turn this ship around.
American women have murdered 60 million of their OWN children.
Actions have consequences.
Squeal, RINO piggies...squeal.
There is a local talk station that has a morning drive time show. It is hosted by Steve Hawkins, who is a veteran TV news reporter and in the past actually merited the title of journalist.
On Friday, he was discussing the impact of including pre-existing condition on rising medical insurance premiums. He did a good job of it.
I was able to get on air right after he finished that and I said something like, "Thank you for that good explanation. This has been known since this law was enacted. My question for you is, Why did we not hear about this from the msm during all the time that has passed since then?"
He accepted my the accuracy of my premise. His response was that he guessed it was too "complex" and the average person could not or would not grasp such forward looking thinking.
So, there we have it from an media person - at least some honesty about their assessment of their audience
It makes me think that our attacks on the msm might shift from that of their "agenda" to pointing out that it believes the audience to be stupid. Lay aside the possibility that, indeed, they ARE. No one likes to be thought of that way.
When dealing with the LIV's let's use that on them.
Something like "Do you realize that the news that you rely on is based on their assumption that you can not understand...?" Do you understand what I am saying about...? So you are not as dumb as they think you are...?
This is a good point. This "one strike or two strikes and YER OUT" mentality needs to be carefully managed. What should happen is that Marco gets persuaded to see the error of his ways and be given the opportunity to straighten himself up.
Certainly this opinion of mine will get me at least singed, but let's keep the gate opened in hope that wandering sheep might find their way back to the fold.
Some of our elected officials are natural followers who need conservative leaders with resolve to line up behind. This process has begun.
Cornyn is my senator. I will not phone bank, walk blocks or otherwise lift a finger for him. You should here the ads he is already running here in TX. He knows that he has betrayed us.
I’m in Texas too. I hear Cornyn’s ads. I see Cornyn’s ads. I get Cornyn’s e-mails. He got my emails too! And I get that he’s a two-faced, double-dealing, self-serving politician.
Unity is a one way street with the liberals of the GOP. They expect you to march in lock step for every nut ball ideal they support but damned if you are going to get the same support when you make a stand on a conservative principle.
I would rather as DeMint said have 30 senators who have my back all the time than 60 squishes which we have now.
