Zombie Republicans
American Spectator ^ | October 21, 2013 | Jed Babbin

Staggering, without direction, not quite dead and in search of brains, the Republican Party is giving a really good performance as the Zombie Party. According to the media’s current narrative, it has to rid itself of the Tea Party’s influence or die.

That narrative tells us the state of the Party is entirely the fault of conservatives, Sens. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee in particular. They — with Cruz’s filibuster — led Republicans into a battle they couldn’t win. If only the House Republicans had gone along with the strategy of the Republican Establishment, they’d have come out of the latest round of crises stronger than they’ve been since, well, we’re not sure when.

If conservatives had obeyed their betters, there would be a chicken in every driveway and a piece of Ted Cruz in every pot. Or at least that’s what the media narrative — propelled by the Republican establishment and the Dems — would have us believe.

There are a few problems with that narrative. To dissect it, we need to be energetic in a way we can only feel if we’re really angry. Anger and frustration are permitted here. Whining is not. And context is important.

The context of the current round of crises — and the temporary solution to them — is that President Obama has never yet been compelled to compromise. Not on Obamacare, not on tax rates, not on individual budgetary items or overall spending. Heaven forbid that any government spending.........

What all these so-called traditional GOPe enablers who blame the failure of the Republican Establishment on Cruz, Lee and the Tea Party forget is that Zombies may be temporarily defeated, the so-called protagonists are never completely safe. We Zombies, if that’s what you want to call us will ALWAYS come back again - looking for your brains.

This is one Tea Party Zombie that is ready to leave the Republican party in a minute.

All I need is a place to go. The Republican is dead to me anyway.

So reform and restoration of freedom will emerge from the institutions that have brought us to the edge of a dictatorship? Not likely.

The Tea Party will die unless it rids itself of the GOP — and I write this as an almost lifelong Republican.

The bottom line is that there are people who have power. With that power, they have voted themselves privilege, and they are using it to make their fortunes. They are not only not going to relinquish that privilege gently, but are willing to pull out the stops to keep it.

They, as a rule, couldn't care less if little Biffy starves naked in the streets, unless they can use that for political gain.

They don't give a rat's behind about the Constitution, doing 'the right thing', or the future of the country, because they think their fortunes (see above) will insulate them from all that.

They view the 'common folk' who vote them in as suckers--and they are right.

They are on both sides of the aisle.

They are all members of the same club. We need to drain the swamp.

The problem within the Pub party is simple:

One faction wants to go along with the Rats to get along, regardless of the spendthrift insanity. They are essentially Democrats Lite - Socialists Lite, satisfied that more government will benefit them the most. Their primary motivations are greed & power. Whether new laws are actually beneficial to the nation & people is irrelevant.

The other faction is based on prudence & morality. These people understand the tyranny & moral decline of the socialist nanny state. They understand the corruption of a system that enriches the ruling class at the expense of the rest of the people. They understand that socialism just makes the poor even poorer, along with everyone else not connected to the elite.

How these 2 factions can reconcile their vast differences is beyond me. That the moral faction would even consider compromise with the power hungry elite is to immediately erode their principles.

Either the conservative, patriotic wing of the Pub party needs to form another party, or they need to throw the corruptocrats out of the Party. That will end the Pub party disunity immediately.

For way too long, conservatives have wrongly tried to compromise good policy with bad, right with wrong. The result is always wrong & bad policy. True + false is always false.

Let's not be duped by warnings of a fatally wounded conservative cause. The biggest problem with conservatism now is that its supposed leaders say one thing & do another. People such as McConnell, Boehner, Rubio are just clever liars, not conservatives. The Pub party is perceived by many as being the party of liars. “Read my lips, ...” kinda liars. I'm among them.

As WRONG as the Rats are, they are loyal to their cause. They actually believe their own propaganda. Conservatives would do well to rid themselves of big government RINOs within their midst, & start speaking with one firm, determined, conservative voice. I suggest Ted Cruz as that voice.

Even if that means not casting a vote against the challenger on the general election ticket. If the Conservative doesn't win the primary, let the challenger defeat the GOPe candidate in the general election.

The GOP is a 19th Century relic that really is a zombie. It’s a statist crony-capitalist party that wanted big government and big business to industrialize the country.

The GOP elite never accepted the reality of the ground shifting from the New Deal and the New Left taking over the Democrats. America wants a conservative party, and the GOP thinks too much of itself to do what the public wants.
